A bipartisan amendment introduced in the US Senate by Kirsten Gillibrand would ramp up the study of UFOs by the federal government.

The measure would create an ‘‘Anomaly Surveillance and Resolution Office” with a goal of using any and all assets from the intelligence community to understand “unidentified aerial phenomena” (UAP). Gillibrand’s amendment is one of about 800 attached to this year’s version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

During a visit to Rochester Monday, the New York Democrat said her interest in studying UFOs comes from her work on the Senate Armed Services Committee. After hearing of a number of sightings of mysterious objects in the sky by naval and air force officers Gillibrand said it's time to figure out what and where these things are from.

She said the aircraft have surprising capabilities, so she’s asking the Department of Defense to compile previous and future sightings with national security in mind.

“We’ve had a number of sightings by Navy pilots and Air Force pilots of things that cannot be explained. Aircraft that do things that we are unfamiliar with,” said Gillibrand. “If it is knowable, meaning, it's Russian or Chinese aircrafts, we need to know what it is, what the capabilities are and how to defend against that. If it is unknowable, we also need to know about that.”

If passed, the measure would add layers of oversight and public discourse on these sightings creating an “aerial and transmedium advisory committee.” Experts from NASA, FAA, and various universities would serve on the committee.

The senator also said she’d like to make it easier for military members who see these objects to come forward. Gillibrand said that some officers have faced retaliation for acknowledging these craft which she said is inappropriate.

“That should never happen,” continued Gillibrand. “We need our service members to put for data and information when they see it, especially if it's unusual.”
Negotiations on the NDAA are expected to pick up after Thanksgiving.

Republican senators Marco Rubio, Lindsey Graham, Roy Blunt and fellow Democrat Martin Heinrich are co-sponsoring the bill.

A provision buried deep in the $770 billion annual defense bill that the US Senate passed on Wednesday calls for the creation of a new agency to investigate reports of UFO sightings.

Under Section 1683 of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal 2022, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and National Intelligence Director Avril Haines have to establish an “office, organizational structure, and authorities to address unidentified aerial phenomena” within 180 days of when President Biden signs the bill into law.

Among its duties, the new agency will “evaluate links between unidentified aerial phenomena and adversarial foreign governments, other foreign governments, or nonstate actors” and “the threat that such incidents present to the United States.”

In June, a government report on UFO sightings said there was no “single explanation” for 140 incidents reported by military personnel since 2004 but deemed them a threat to flight safety and a potential threat to national security.

Last month, the Pentagon quietly announced it had formed the Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group to oversee UFO investigations, which critics attacked as an attempt to limit transparency on the subject.

That's FUNNY, John. It's another hoot for those of us who live in this state with it's private contract heavy, secret laboratory based, breakaway technological society that has absolutely no moral compass whatsoever.

As I lovingly knock on the skull of those who would ever consider trusting those highly credentialed, gods-of-destruction appointed, fact-checked a##Holes....

So let us get this right...Another politician, Sen. Heinrich in this case, wants to spend more taxpayer money on something that will NEVER reveal the truth, nor expose the real true scope of how much his corporate government has lied to those citizens who fund the secrecy?

That politician, like all politicians, is a man who will never tell citizens who are, thru no fault of their own, absolutely clueless about how many of those advances have been used, are being used and will be used against them, their freedoms, their health, their careers and even their lives, and the entirety of the lives of their children, their grandchildren and whatever future their progeny may possibly have.

It's just another intel funded, watchdog group just like MUFON has always been, but maybe this time with a more calculated, warm and fuzzy approach to gathering information on encounters that are NONE OF THEIR G.D'd BUSINESS, considering how corrupt and evil their corporate governors are and have always been to us, to all of us, planet wide.

Why the F, and I mean a big F, would anyone tell a public group, or a so-called government funded group, no less one as beholding to those who oversee the secret projects themselves, about any encounter or insight with another species? Really now?

That's a thoroughly ignorant idea, that is if you care about the survival of our species as we know it and what it is capable of doing.

For whatever each one of us can learn from another species of either humanoid form or of those embodying another form of communication, any other energetic beings.... I would expect at least some basis of knowing who we shouldn't trust our F's with.

I think that the NASA-Center for Theological Inquiry initiative good and necessary initiative; furthering the incipient conversation on the religious implications potentially affecting so many people. But to avoid jealousy against the West or a feeling that the modern West is once again trying to impose on other people's cultures, efforts like these quite likely require a greater inclusion of Non-Western religious leaders (especially of moderate, mentally flexible priests, imams, brahmins, Buddhist monks, and rabbis) that can be culturally influential.

Initially (in terms of recognizing a grander creation in which ET-NH exist in a vast universe), many mainstream and moderate religions could adapt. Many can find passages in sacred texts that mention other possible material and non-material worlds, for example. But the tangible geopolitical world and democracies are now being seriously challenged by a variety of regressive, traditionalist, nationalist, ethnocentric, identity-reinforcing, intolerant, movements, including their religious versions. This creates a lack of trust within societies all the while people's attention is being "hacked" whilst also being enormously misinformed by self-reinforcing search procedures designed to commercially favor the owners of Social Media.

What if ET-NH must be in all honesty recognized as many of the Hindu gods? Will Hindutva adapt to that? What if the ET-NH don't state that Muhammed is the last prophet and that the Q'uran is perfect? Will they be considered infidels? Of course, they will, especially by the non-moderate. Will ET-NH recognize that Jesus is the only begotten son of God? At first, extremists and fundamentalists will likely be against ET-NH and likely accused of being demonic or threatening but, eventually, even the moderate religious leaders in each religion will be challenged by further implications that challenge parts of their faiths.

Cultural anthropology shows that human groups in general demand exclusivity of truths as per their core beliefs. That universal characteristic is found across coherent human groups-societies the world over and seems to be a constantly expressing aspect of human nature. It may be expressed differently but it must be expressed in closed-minded ways. Wouldn't that need to hold on to a narrow range of coherent beliefs be mostly challenged? It is mostly irrational and (according to Social Psychology) requires little reason to hold on to the beliefs as long as a group coherence can continue. Only group disruption to the degree that sustaining those exclusive beliefs becomes unnecessary (for survival and for establishing new forms of group coherence) would prompt people to abandon their core beliefs. Many easily gave up dogmas included in the veneration of Mother Mary when Henry the VIII gave up the Vatican. The social group would not go away and had to continue. Adaptation was possible. In some cases, syncretism - like in Colonial Peru- took place because enough native American cultural leaders were allowed to continue.
