    Happy Fourth of July everyone! It is a day to celebrate our independence, our freedom from tyranny, our sovereignty.

    To me, the most subversive song against this tyranny, are the simple words of Woody Guthrie "This land was made for you and me."



    It wasn't made for factory farms or land robber barons like Bill Gates, this land was made for you and me!

    It wasn't made to that Monsanto/Beyer could cover it with inorganic chemicals and GMOs, this land was made for you and me!

    It wasn't made so that Nestle's or the Bush family or other cartels could buy up all the rights to the water. The rivers and lakes and oceans were made for you and me and all the creatures that swim in the fresh clear waters!

    It wasn't made for nuclear bomb and weapons testing, or for napalming, or destructive military maneuvers, this land for made for you and me and for all the animals that dwell here too!

    And every land and every nation was made for the people who dwell upon it, so lets stop fighting these pretend wars to "make the world free" and acknowledge what they are really about: colonizing, dominating and vampirizing the peoples, the resources, the land on behalf of the select few. This peaceable land was made for you and me!

    This land was not made for the psychopathic politicians, or war mongering generals, or the corporations hell bent on greed, or the attendees of the Bilderberg Group hell bent on control. It was made for you and may.

    Happy Fourth of July everyone on Earth, and not just the people of United State of American. Celebrate your sovereignty this day and every day. This planet is here for you and your well being and happiness. From the Himalayas to the Amazon rain forest, this planet was made for you and me!

    An interesting, and ironic side note that not many are aware of, is that Woody sympathized heavily with Communism. Here's a sample:

    Well, at least he wasn't a "Godless Communist".

    I am not communist or socialist, but I think that when these philosophies become popular, it is in response to a form of capitalism that is corrupt and cronyistic. The elite of the world don't want a form of capitalism that is fair and free, nor do they want communism or socialism that would shave off a few billion from their wealth.

    I have to laugh when people say that "communism" is the desired form of government for the New Order. There's no way that billionaires are going to give up their private jets for those people who need to be flown far away for emergency medical care.

    RIGHT to be FREE from subjugation or the NEED to appease or acquiesce

    these words are precious to me:

    and it begins with US.. We must guard and prize our freedom .the time has passed to take it for granted. it was on these principle that this country was founded, that such ideals were attempted to be actualized. be proud of that. No one else up to that point had done the same

    we must allow NO ONE neither to subjugate us? nor to make us complicit in the subjugation of another.

    though our WH has been taken over by usurpers who lose no opportunity to diminish our national pride, to silence our patriotism, to traumatize and "condition" us into meek acquiescence? they are only cowards who need secrecy and "covers" to advance. the reason they are relentless in their psychological assault against us is they wouldn't dare be straight forward to attack us in our might

    let's bear in mind this simple truth:

    they CAN ONLY DO WHAT WE ALLOW

    they NEED ~ OUR agreement in order to succeed

    an agreement, well within our power to DENY

    I AM proud to be an American. I AM proud of the principles it was founded upon and there is NO amount of propaganda or force on this planet that CAN change that

    I think the lure of Communism among the activists and 'folk heroes' of the working class-based Folk movement was more of a pragmatic matter.
    By this I mean that the plight of the ordinary working person, gaining employment to pay the bills, possibly buying a house, but in the main poverty and struggle
    was seen as being caused by Capitalism; the only strong push back, the only genuine road to resist the tyranny of the wealthy class was Communism.
    Really, I think people like Woody Guthrie and the Folk movement was simply seeking out a solution to the misery of the working class, the injustice of poverty-they were not true Communists, but Humanists seeking a means to fight.
    In essence, the Capitalism of America is more a covert form of Fascism-and This Machine Kills Fascists!
    Before you gather the lynch mob to tar/feather me, I am looking at the macro/historical scale of American history here, I personally support the Constitution, and bravery of the American people: this is not the same thing as the corporate fascism which has overtaken America, and the covert nature of this corporate power is pernicious to us all.It clothes itself in false patriotism and claims of national pride, it supports none of this.

    If you are young and idealistic, particularly at the time he wrote that, I have to admit that Communism looks pretty good on paper if you don't understand how it will be exploited. And if he called it commonism, I don't think he knew much about the reality of it in human practice. In all fairness, I don't see a single government style on this planet at this time that is not being distorted beyond recognition of it's original principles. There might be some, I just don't know about it.

    Mike, beautifully stated. That was essentially what I was trying to convey in Gracy's post. In all honesty, I see why the naive young of today would find the rhetoric appealing. Those that totally embrace consumerism in the US seem to have taken on a almost grotesque quality , in my opinion. The idealists have a right to be dismayed by the whole thing.

    The problem with any system of government or religion is mankind itself. The problem and solution lies within each one of us.

    At the time Guthrie first wrote this song, the Depression was coming to an end. He grew up seeing both privilege and poverty, and had survived the Dust Bowl period in Oklahoma. I think at that time, the only alternative to a system the left some in positions of comfort and the most hard working people in poverty and destitution, communism seemed like the only logical answer. Then along came Franklin Roosevelt with his New Deal. It wasn't until around the time he revised the song that one could see that New Deal Capitalism had probably saved the U.S.A. from a communist insurgency.

    communism, socialism, democracy etc are just systems or labels. Anyone of which can prosper or fail depending on the people in it.

    The only good thing about labels is that we can associate people with good and bad, divide them and make them fight.

    I literally have family members who were "Oakies". Forced to leave the farm and travel west with everything they had left on the top of the car. I have the little book where each expenditure on their trip was carefully recorded. A loaf of bread cost them 10 cents at the time.

    Wow, Pam - that is quite a legacy. There were a lot of stories like that at the time and I have to wonder how these people made it though. There were probably a few kind strangers who helped out.
