Default NDE's (Near Death Experiences) described by Avalon Members

Friends, an Avalon member wrote to me describing a remarkable NDE of their own (thank you, and fascinating!) — and suggested we might start a thread specifically about this. I've never had an NDE myself, but I'd definitely be extremely interested to hear about the experiences of others here.

I have had several of the these last few years. One specifically stands out, where I went out side of my body (I was going to leave for good). I literally vibrated out and I saw what everybody connected to me thought and felt about me. Strangely, it was also like my sense of self 'shifted' to my higher self and was observing the 'me' now in this experience. I wasn't very pleased with myself because I was hiding from my purpose. During this time, I realised I was no where near ready to leave this experience, so I told myself 'I am my body' over and over in my mind, and I slipped back in.

Update: sorry I failed to mention the physical feeling - my body was in complete shock from an inflammatory storm.

Lightbulb Re: NDE's (Near Death Experiences) described by Avalon Members

I will share my personal NDE soon here ...
    • The Mystery of Perception During Near Death Experiences - Pim van Lommel

    • Near-Death Experience English subtitles with Pim van Lommel and testimonials:

Many people who have come close to dying report having had a near-death experience (NDE). An NDE is a lucid experience associated with perceived consciousness apart from the body occurring at the time of actual or threatened imminent death. NDEs typically encompass several sensations, including being outside one’s physical body, feelings of peace and joy, and moving in a tunnel toward a loving bright light. Compelling evidence for the validity of NDEs from medical studies of thousands of NDEs includes:

    01. confirmed observations of the physical world when unconscious or during clinical death
    02. blind people seeing during an NDE
    03. meeting previously unknown deceased relatives during an NDE and
    04. the dramatically changed lives of people who have had an NDE.

Some patients find themselves outside of their unconscious physical bodies and are able visually to observe earthly events or objects — sometimes hundreds of miles away — that were later verified by third parties to be accurate. This phenomenon indicates that consciousness can exist apart from the physical body. It is difficult to believe that this high degree of verifiably accurate reporting, which typically occurred at a time when there was no electrical activity in the brain, could be caused by psychological or physiological factors. Since the self-consciousness that accompanied these veridical perceptions is independent of bodily function, it is reasonable to conclude that our consciousness remains alive after death of the body.

For example, cardiologist Dr. Michael Sabom reports the case of singer Pam Reynolds. In order to remove a life-threatening aneurysm deep in her brain, Pam Reynolds underwent a rare surgical operation called a "standstill" in which her body temperature was lowered to 60 degrees, her heartbeat and breathing stopped, her brain waves flattened, and the blood drained from her head. In everyday terms, she was dead. Dr. Robert Spetzler, her surgeon, was sawing into her skull when Pam suddenly heard the saw and began observing the surgical procedure from a vantage point over his shoulder. She also heard what the nurses said to the doctors. Upon returning to consciousness, she was able to accurately describe the unique surgical instrument used and the statements made by the nurses.

Studies also show that 80 percent of blind people who had an NDE are able to see things during their clinical death that are later verified by others as being accurate. These experiences offer compelling evidence of the afterlife, since blind people are obviously not "seeing" with their useless physical eyes, but through the upgraded "eyes" of a spiritual body that does not have the limitations of their physical body.

Many people, including children, report meeting deceased relatives during an NDE, including relatives they had not known before but are able to later identify (e.g., from old family photographs). Children are more likely to report meeting a deceased grandparent than a living parent. This indicates that their NDE was not based on wishful thinking because children would be expected to meet living relatives, such as their father or mother, in a dream or hallucination.

Studies also show that nearly all those who had an NDE report their lives, religious beliefs, values and behaviors are significantly changed afterward. Many people say their NDE transformed their views of what really matters in life and that they have lost their fear of death. They typically have a much stronger belief in God and the afterlife because they are convinced they were there. They also report having less interest in material things, such as money, big houses or expensive cars. Studies show that these life changes are permanent and longlasting.

The combined weight of this scholarly evidence affirms that there is a component of human beings that is not reducible to our mere physical body. This immaterial and spiritual part of our being has traditionally been called our soul and is linked to human consciousness. As stated by Dr. Pim van Lommel, "Until now, the concept was that the brain is the producer of consciousness and the producer of memories. But when you study near-death experiences, we have to reconsider this concept: perhaps we should consider the brain not as a producer, but as a receiver of consciousness."

The evidence from medical studies of NDEs affirms church teachings that human beings are composed of both a body and a soul, and that the soul lives on after death of the body. NDEs also support the reality of an afterlife that transcends physical death and is usually a very pleasant experience, much like what has been called heaven. However, some NDEs point to the existence of a hellish afterlife.

In 1986 I had a serious accident in the back of an unbelted ‘black cab’, tossed over and over due to high speed collision at crossroads when traffic lights failed.
Fortunately, only a few hundred metres to local A&E. Hangman’s neck fracture. Whilst ‘away’, given a choice, but really needed to stay for my son. That night, my folks told I would not last the night, but I came back, thankfully. The ‘other side’ had loving relatives, very tempting. Spent months thereafter in a metal brace head ‘halo’, full body cast, and relentless physio. Psychologically total trauma, still horrified at that awful experience, but appreciate the ghastly experiences others have which are much, much worse, so much more supportive of those less fortunate than oneself.

I've had exactly two experiences that I've come to define as NDE's, but neither were as elaborate as some that I have read about. The first as a small lad being pushed off a floating inner-tube at the deep end of a public pool (I could not swim). My memory is of much panic and thrashing, aspirating water and finally sinking. I recall touching the cement bottom of the pool, and seeing my parents and family, I stopped struggling and somehow felt peaceful, and eventually rose to the surface gasping. My second experience was less than a decade ago, a major brain bleed/stroke. I'm certain I was gone, but I do recall standing at a closed door with some guy (a doctor?) and he spoke to me saying "we don't go in here yet". The next recollection was a nurse, or my wife (not sure) standing at my hospital bedside saying "you've had a stroke". I've been knocked out, passed out and experienced every conceivable loss of consciousness in my life, but those two experiences I described were not that, they were profound.

Good thread Bill and very important subject, many people went through NDE, and some are afraid to comment in details what happened to them, in many cases it causes some traumatic issues like it did to me and it is totally understandable.

I had a terrible experience in the ocean to share, I just don't know if what happened to me is classified as NDE, but I felt I went there very close.

I like surf and I do it every time I can since very young age, always a soul surf, do not ask me about the last surf world championship because I do not know anything about that
I love the ocean I have to say, I live on the beach because I like the ocean for many reasons not only surf, ok, to my story now, this day was one of those days that all soul surfers wait for, a big solid swell, I left home with a friend it was dawn, arrived at the fisherman bay (a secret break that only works in big swells) we knew it was going to break big there, the other beaches would be totally storm, that day was raining, nobody else on the beach, not even the fisherman, on the outside it was breaking huge and it means no fishing activities that day. We took the track toward the cape which has better access to the waves and once we arrived there, me and my friend look each other and my friend said, sorry waves are beautiful but today not for me, I didn't listen to him and decided to get in, which I felt was a mistake when I started paddling away from the rocks, it was super heavy, but I end up making to the outside after a few heavy waves breaking in my head, this alone made me very tired, after a little while I felt waves was gaining some power, the current and the wind changed and the rain stopped for a little, and my friend was yelling on the shore, it is getting bigger, get out and also doing all sort gestures trying to get me out of there... then some huge unexpected series of massive waves came, when I saw that it immediately came into my mind, what the hell I am doing here, but it was too late, the only way out was to catch one and ride, there was no way to paddle back to the cape, too dangerous, too many rocks everywhere, I managed to paddle to the outside in order to avoid the series but the next one that came shortly after told me it was getting real bigger, I decided to go on the next one because at that point I was just paddling hard to keep myself in the same position and was getting exhausted, I dropped the next one it was a real massive wave, a wall, so it was a big drop and I rode it just enough for it break on me, that when I lost my balance and got caught by this monster, I was twisted, punched, ripped, chewed, I end up reaching the rocky bottom and after a few minutes I was in there now fighting for my life, that time I had a good apnea, I could hold my breath up to 3 minutes, even more than that, but that was not enough, I started to have a feeling of lightheadness, not dizziness (it feels different) and that when everything became pure light, like I was fading away, I can't explain the feeling in details, but it felt like astral projection (that time I didn't know what it was) in a very unusual place, somehow I didn't panic, I just let it go literally, I did the only thing I could, lock my breath for as long as I could.

I was been pushed towards the rocky bottom, there was a very strong pressure that didn't allow me to swim back to the surface, waves was crashing one after another, I was been dragged in the bottom, I just passed out I guess and something pulled out, I felt like my body floated and I was just watching that happen (this was the creep part), then I was back to the surface with my head out of water breathing some air, I may have passed out for an instant when I saw that light, I don't know and I can't remember (a friend told me I should try to do a regression with some expert, I may try one day), because I was not fighting that very specific moment, and then I started fighting again and had that feeling of something lifting me up to the surface, not easy to explain, and I feel like there is a tiny missing part on it between the lightheadness and the lifting part which could be the part that I passed out. More I think about it more absurd it sounds.

After that, once I got out of that little chaos of mine, I felt something was wrong with my foot, I had a large cut, it was looking like I had a second mouth in my foot and it was bleeding a lot, after that I end up in the hospital and had 7 stitches, the cut was bad I could not walk well for a month, because it reached the vein, that explained the whole lot of blood and also could explain my experience but I am not trying to rationalize that anymore, I am sure something very unusual took place that day. I believe I was very luck to end up with only a cut and a few scratches in my back.

It was a very bad experience, I should had listened to myself and to my friend of course, some accidents like this could be totally avoided, but I was young and opportunity to surf waves like that you don't get everyday, but it almost cost my life, for sure I could live without that.

After that it took many months to get into water and surf again, I had this trauma to work with, many nightmares where I am drowning, but I am fine nowadays and I learned to be a way more careful after that, not only surfing, but careful in everyday life.

I always called mine a 'quasi' NDE although it was maybe 'just' an OBE in a surgery. Not sure til this very day. On the other hand something definitely went 'wrong' during this surgery and it might have still been the case I was 'kind of' dead in-between for a while. Anyway for what it is worth: Here is a copy from my former blog (not really been updated for a long time) about astral projection and (as planned) astral retrieval work. This 'NDE' from 2009 was a kind of initiation experience and trigger because many OBEs/APs should follow after this (voluntary ones!). It opened the door so to speak.

This was my first involuntary (as you might have guessed by the title already ) 'lucidventure'. And eventually it is the event that brought me on the path of APing, and - last not least - also brought me here into forums and communities of like-minded people just as this one.

This event might be categorised by some as a 'classic' OBE taking place within the larger frame of a "kind of" NDE, but not quite, as you will see below.

In September 2009, I went to the hospital for a necessary rectification of the nasal septum. It is a harmless everyday routine operation done generally for respiratory health improvement (no, it's nothing cosmetic! ). Nevertheless, this surgery demands a full narcosis and the tracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation, which means your air system gets paralysed so you don't breathe for yourself anymore.

I remember the preliminaries well, including being brought into the surgery anteroom and having to wait there, already a bit sedated in the hospital bed. Then a small-talk with the surgeon. Then into the surgery, being lifted onto the table by the staff, getting all the medical gear on your arms and being put to the machines, then s.o. put the breathing mask over my face from behind, telling me to take 1-2 deep breaths, and so was falling asleep after a few seconds. All routine. Business as usual.

Official medical and scientific theory says that under controlled anasthesia you are supposed to be in 'deep sleep' and only gain consciousness a long time after surgery again in the wake-up/recovery room.

    So much for the theory.

I gained consciousness. I was lying in a bed. (So far, so good, according to theory...). But it was the bed of my childhood room. So I thought for a few seconds. Then I corrected my mistake after a while. I saw machines, gadgets. Immediately I knew where I was again. I was in the surgery.
I was not lying on the table. I seemed to be hovering - a bit above my (physical) head, as it seemed. I was at my "head side" but it seemed that I was a bit more lifted, I however don't remember seeing my body at all (I never looked there, though). I saw everything in colours - so vivid, intense, vibrant, warm and lush - colours that I never saw before (and never after, so far!) on Earth. I just looked from the left side (with all the gadgets) to the right where I saw the chief surgeon doing some routine measure on a kind of handlebar (as it seemed, but don't know exactly what it was) next to or at the side of the operating table.

But there was more: I read his thoughts!

And even that is not enough to describe it, because maybe I actually "was him" in that short moment, too. I was expressing sth to me - the guy on the table - which I also was - strange, huh?. What "he" "said" was this (not in words or literally - just in a seemingly telepathic expression, an entire instant thought bundle directed towards me, and coming from me alike - yeah, I know how that's weird ... It wasn't words to be heard or even grasped, just information entangled with feeling/emotion. I only paraphrase it here, clad into words, to convey the meaning (emotionally as well as content-related):

"Hey, everything's alright, chap, don't worry, it worked well and we are ready now."

But actually, I was far from being worried anyway!

I was in an UTTER STATE OF BLISS like never before in my life.

It must somehow be what the mystics talk about. Ultimate well-being, vibrant with life and happiness, it is beyond expression, it is not happiness we experience as humans, not even when drugged (I suppose). The vivid unearthly colours seemed to envigorate (but on the other hand also be an expression of my) permanent joy, too. And one more thing: It felt like home. I cannot express it better. It's this feeling of being home, secure, in the right place at the right time - all as the ultimate expression of happiness. I felt "home" in spite of still receiving the 'visual' input from the surgery. That is bliss. Home. Also Love, of course. But in the end, there was and is no difference between the two for me. Love is Home. Home is Love.

Unfortunately (for me then) it did not last too long. The whole scene took (in my perception) only a few seconds. Then the situation changed and my perception / consciousness switched to a completely different scene, but still in the surgery.
The bliss was gone. There was only soberness and neutrality. Nothing negative, but nothing positive either. The colours were gone, too. The picture I saw was blurry, like a big-pixled graphic movie with low resolution. The colours rather dull and neutral.
And my position was changed. I was hovering a little above but much further away, almost at level with the heads of the medical staff in height, but approx. 6-8 metres off. I would even not discount the fact that I 'saw it all through a wall'. The scene was quite mundane. The surgery team around the table and the chief surgeon bending over towards the patient (me?) and moving something there. Not more, nothing spectacular. No mind-reading, colours, bliss, clear vision ... all gone. This scene also lasted for a few seconds only.

Then it was over. I was there where I should have been after 'falling asleep', in the wake-up room . I heard a nurse in this room telling me in a loud voice to breathe through my mouth - of course I had to, since the nose was full of stuff (tubes and medical dressing material) from the surgery.

    Analysis / Afterthoughts

A few days later, I got to ask the surgeon if there were complications with my operation. His answer was a predictable no. But he almost became a bit tight-lipped and was suddenly pressed for time when I brought forward the topic of my narcosis. I also had heavy and large bruises on my right arm. Asking nurses and the visiting doctor (1 day after the surgery) about this resulted then in statements such as "this can happen" (possibly from those tightened monitor armbands you get put on, so they told me).

Anyway, I don't think I was "really" in danger of losing my life, so it was not a 'real' NDE at all, moreover since I did not experience one of the other usual elements (tunnel to another dimension, life review, meeting with angels, relatives etc.).
However, this marvellous Total-Bliss-Experience indicates to me that it wasn't a "usual AP"-experience either, which I can now in hindsight confirm with some more 'astral experience' gathered in the meantime. I now assume that I could have been in a "higher" spiritual body then. Or probably a guide was with me and giving me this experience of "love" and security, and bliss?

Another assumption regarding the cause: As you stop breathing for yourself, maybe your subconscious or body/cell/atomic consciousness gets aware of the missing vital activity and you feel like you are dying a "little" or "partial death". That is of course just a wild hypothesis to explain what exactly triggered my out-of-body and mystical experience.

I also wonder about the 2nd scene so completely different. Was the surgeon already attendig to another patient and I really was 'remote viewing' this (already from the recovery room)?. Or - if it was me on the table - was this scene taking place even before the other one, as it looked like the first scene was the end of the surgery while the second scene seemed to show a surgery still under way. So probably I just remembered / experienced them in reverse order (and what is time in these experiences anyway? ).

Well, I guess I might have to wait til this lifetime of mine has ended until I receive the final and assured answers to these questions.

Another interesting thing (in hindsight): the anticipation of my "astral portal": the childhood room that only recently became a kind of "leitmotif" for many of my lucadventures (you will see in following adventures that it pops up again and again). Only until I read my notes again recently, I had almost forgotten that it 'featured' already in this first landmark lucidventure.

    More to come.

This story isn't mine. It's that of a close friend, but it's extremely funny and I figured I might share it to bump the thread.

My friend is an industrial electrician, and was working with a mate to repair a large piece of equipment. The power (about 1000 volts) needed to be turned off, and to do that the mate was asked to go and do that — about 30 seconds journey round the bend in a corridor and out of sight.

My friend waited a good minute or two, and then set to work. He immediately got a 1000V shock, fell to the ground still holding the cable, and was catapulted out of his body.

From his new vantage point, he could see (a) his own body lying limp on the floor with the cable, and (b) his mate who'd stopped to have a friendly chat with someone in the corridor on the way to turn off the power.

My friend (in his OBE state) was furious. He telepathically yelled at his mate: TURN OFF THE POWER!! NOW !!!

At that point his mate abruptly remembered what he was meant to be doing, hastily excused himself, and dashed to the power switch. He then ran back to find my friend — who lived happily ever after to tell the very funny tale.

Wow, thats a rough experience, but a powerful tale to tell.

So, was it the loving relatives that told you that you have a choice whether to stay with them or return to your body? Or was there another kind of gatekeeper being there?

For me, I feel I would look at them and shrug. How the heck am I supposed to make a choice like that, im just an idiot ego with no idea of the future or bigger picture, etc.. See what I mean? It seems like a silly question to some confused person who has just been in a wreck and on the other side. How much 'time' is there to even make such a decision? Can we get assisstance or insight to make such a decision? Wouldn't some higher part of my being already have made that choice anyway. I wouldn't expect it to be any different than down here on earth, where I seem to be dragged along into all kinds of not my conscious ego's decision.

Like the oracle says in the matrix, You didnt come here to make the decision, you already made it, you came here to understand why you made the decision.

Not sure if you have any answer to that from your experience or a guess based on your feeling. Or perhaps, someone else has some insight into that.

I had a similar experience, but it was in a river. I was tubing down a river and I didn't get out at the point that I should have. Caught in rough river water, I was dragged along the bottom, and felt my back and head banging on rocks - but what I recall most is the soothing and comfortable feeling looking at the sun and sky through the water. I was content to stay and watch.

The next thing I remember is half kneeling/standing on the side as somebody had pulled me out. I had spit up a bunch of water and then I had a huge headache and my back hurt. Whoever it was that pulled me out, I don't know. He just patted me on the shoulder and walked away.

I had it coming, the ‘lesson’, the ‘warning’, so presumably a mighty wake-up call. It worked, to a degree, but opened my mind to so much more….
My family on the ‘other side’ have always been protective and supportive, thankfully for them I have been made aware of pitfalls and ego.
I thank them always from wherever their dimension, and strive to be an honest loving person in this life, despite many negative influences.

Default Re: NDE's (Near Death Experiences) described by Avalon Members

I wonder whether some lasting level of brain damage/alteration from NDEs is responsible for our bodies/minds being more electrically charged and more receptive post-NDE, similar to the way intentionally altered states can facilitate temporary OBEs and visions?

When I was looking for answers a few years ago, before finding Avalon, I reached out to a man named Dr. Richard Bonenfant (http://alienjigsaw.com/anomalies/Bon...Abduction.html), who was studying the link between NDEs, electrical interference and abductions. I hadn't realised how strongly those topics appear to be connected until he shared more about them.

Both my mother and I had NDEs as children and now, as adults, we are extremely bonded in our thoughts and our inexplicable/paranormal experiences.

My mother fell off of a cliff, smashing her skull (she still has a significant hole in it) and breaking her back in several places when she was young. To this day, in perfect detail, she remembers the lengthy rescue and conversations around her all the way down the mountain and back into town, seeing everything from above while being transported to the hospital even though she had to be resuscitated numerous times ( and was told she was unconscious the entire way) and upon reaching the hospital, was momentarily pronounced dead. She spent months in the hospital on a rotating bed afterward. She often reminds me that death is nothing to fear and that even as a little girl, during that experience, she felt absolute freedom and peace; that she decided in those moments she would never again fear dying or let anyone she loved be afraid, because it was clear to her that we go on.

When I was 1-2 years old, family friends who didn't have children of their own, took me to a hotel swimming pool. At some point, I slipped into the deep end, essentially drowning without anyone noticing me in time. I do not ever remember losing consciousness, but can still very clearly recall the feet of children running round and around the pool's edge, people jumping in and swimming over me and the distorted voices echoing through the water above me.

I remember staring up at the diving board and realizing I didn't have to breathe, that it was a very indescribable, kind of ticklish sensation which went on and on. An ambulance was called and they tried to resuscitate me a number of times. Even though I was so very little, I remember being surrounded by people leaning over me by the southeast corner of the pool. As a child, I thought being circled by everyone making strange movements over me was funny. There was no fear or pain.

My mother didn't know what had happened for a long time, because her friends apparently returned me home late in the day and never said a single word to her about it. They never spoke to my family again after dropping me off at home, which thoroughly confused my parents.

A few years later, it took another parent who had witnessed the event to recall it to my mother. By then, I could talk and tell her everything that I remembered, too.

That video really resonates with me. I had written about it before somewhere in Avalon, when my Grandmother was in a coma and we connected...changed my life!

Knowing that there is so much more to us that we are right now, knowing that as a fact, it changes how you feel about many things. For example, I love my kids and I hope they have a great future - a great life. I will give them all the advice guidance etc., that I can, but at the same time I do not stress about it because I know that it is their journey.

I do not fear death. This is not to say that I will allow myself to die, but I am very confident that I will be here as long as I am supposed to be here. I will enjoy each moment, each day. Of course there will be bad days, but that's the way it is.

I don't have NDE myself. But I am an ICU nurse. I took care of so many patients in so many years. several times patients told me their special experience. One patient was very upset and angry after she woke up from coma status. we were so confused. We saved her life, how come she was so angry to us. Later she told us, she was floating in "water", very warm, relaxing, no pain anymore, so comfortable, but some voice of praying pulled her back into her body. She was so bad to come back. she said she didn't want to come back.

Another time, my patient had cardiac arrest. We did CPR, shocked her. Later she told me she saw us busying doing CPR, she was floating there on the top of ceiling.

Of course, there are some "ghosts" stories. That is why I always told my coworkers to take care of each of our patients with love. Be careful what we say and do to our patients. If no way to bring them back to this world, give them best care to let them have a good "transition" to another world.
