Star Trek: Discovery. The writing on this show is G.A.R.B.A.G.E. Nothing about it is Star Trek any more. I cannot believe what my beloved Trek has become.

    Behold, the latest wokeness:

Agree totally Star Mariner, as a Star Trek enthusiast from the original seen on tv in the 60's onward, the franchise is now (emotionally) dead and buried for me. (Though just finished Discovery season 2, so can't resist SF no matter how much I hate certain aspects.)

Sadly, the same wokeness killed off Doctor Who as well, with the last great doctor Capaldi and that period the end of value in that show, in my view.
I must update this post now and see I am enjoying Discovery season 3 so far, in spite of wokeness quotient, and really enjoying Picard season 1 so far.

Guess I am just a sucker for Sci_Fi shows.

and the post above, I am guessing that is past where I am so far - don't recoginize the characters from screenshot.

I loved his Lieutenant Lucerne/Ward Fowler character in the first of his two Columbo appearances...
Maybe you are referring to this video below? It is a very funny clip to listen to. And in this case he was totally right! And he made the director admit that he didn’t have a clue what he wanted the end result to be. You see, with voice actors, you do not want to interfere too much in their interpretation, unless they deliver an obviously bad take. Because if you interfere too much, you may not get the authenticity you want in your final product. The first take was perfect. The only thing the director could have said is: great! Now let’s do two or three more and you can improvise all you want and maybe bring in different nuances and we’ll choose the take that is the best one. And there would have been no problem.

I like William Shatner a lot and I can totally believe he can be the worst nightmare for directors with not much experience.

Would be very very very very interesting if he would come back, in true form, somehow, in a new series. But i don't think that will happen anytime soon

I don't even think he would find the right way to do it, or even care anymore at this point, but who knows..

I know this is a Shatner thread, but has anyone taken in the new 'Picard' season on Prime? I was very impressed with Patrick Stewart all over again, and Riker & Troi also appear - imaginative, sophisticated and actually quite enthralling

Here's a recent video of Shatner reacting to the many comedians who have impersonated him over the years. Good stuff!

I just watched the first episode where they appear, and agree with your take, as I posted above:

    https://projectavalon.net/forum4/sho...=1#post1452955

I just did not mention these appearances to avoid spoilers.

It was a great and heart-warming episode with great acting and strong bonds between the characters and actors and was quite emotionally satisfying to this fan of Next Gen for so long.

The writing has been superior to Discovery also in my view, with the leveraging of the Borg story and new back-story for the Romulans quite interesting.

William Shatner to go into Space!

Normally I wouldn't give a hoot about ultra rich celebs and what they get up to, but as a life-long Trek nerd this warmed my heart. His flight on Blue Origin is I believe scheduled for October 12th.

Yes looking forward to seeing his launch - hope all goes well.

I believe he was offered a place on Virgin Galactic but had to pay - said he'd need paying to go, so someone did (Netflix?), and paid for the Blue Origin flight for him.

    Remarkable and captivating.

A moment of extraordinary contrast at the end... Kirk himself emerges from the capsule, tentatively at first, as if landing on a strange new world. He looks around him, takes it all in: tears swell in his eyes. The camera lingers on him as he weighs careful words, attempting, stumbling at first, to give expression to what was a profound, transformational experience. At last the words come...we lean in to hear what may go down in the Ages...but we can barely hear him, drowned out by the screaming, whooping, chattering hens in the background as if on a saturday night out at Carlos & Charlie's.

I thought so too - would like to hear that all went well in the landing.
15-17 mph was speed under chute for approach.
I believe that the capsule fires 6 or 8 small rockets just a foot or so above the ground to slow it down further the last few inches. Maybe the dust cloud they created immediately obscured that. Maybe they didnt fire ! I didnt see them like on last flight.

Edit - not so sure it has any landing rockets now - might be confused with spacex.

Perhaps good old fashioned shock absorbers !

Edit 2 - just to clear things up I checked it out.
"to help the vehicle land. Just before touchdown the capsule’s retro rocket — a tiny engine on the bottom of the spacecraft — fires against the ground to slow the vehicle even more. And for further cushioning, the bottom of the capsule has a "crushable structure" — a ring of eight segments made of aluminum honeycomb material. This helps to absorb some of the capsule’s impact with the ground."

True - but he composed himself after Bezos interrupted his first words with a bottle of bubbly and still showed enough emotion in his experience to bring a tear to the eye.
