Default Petitions vs Prayers and the Stressful Times we Live in

The Doors were an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1965, with vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger, and drummer John Densmore. The band got its name at Morrison's suggestion from the title of Aldous Huxley's book The Doors of Perception, which itself was a reference to a quote made by William Blake, "If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite."

They were unique and among the most controversial and influential rock acts of the 1960s, mostly because of Morrison's lyrics and charismatic but unpredictable stage persona. After Morrison's death in 1971, the remaining members continued as a trio until disbanding in 1973. Although the Doors' active career ended in 1973, their popularity has persisted. According to the RIAA, they have sold 33 million records in the US and over 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling bands of all time. Amen.

Doors – The Soft Parade Lyrics
When I was back there in seminary school
    There was a person there
    Who put forth the proposition
That you can petition the Lord with prayer
    Petition the lord with prayer
    Petition the lord with prayer
You cannot petition the lord with prayer!

In our modern world of today, and these days especially, we find a lot of stress around us.

Can the Bible Teach Us About Managing Anxiety Today?

People turn to the Bible for support with many challenges, and chief among them is anxiety.
According to data released by Amazon on the most highlighted passage in Kindle e-books, the most popular passage from the Bible is one on reducing anxiety and finding trust in God.

The specific passage is Philippians 4:6-7 (New International Version), which states:

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Most Biblical scholars agree that the apostle Paul composed the Book of Philippians while he was in prison. That Paul was able to reject anxiety even during his own imprisonment, makes this passage all the more encouraging. Many of us today feel as if we are in a sort of prison, with our movements subject to restrictions by various government and medical bodies.

The lines before and after Philippians 4:6-7 encourage readers to "rejoice in the Lord," but also to enact gentleness, make sacrifices for others and focus on "whatever is true" and "whatever is admirable."

Or in other words, in order to reject anxiety and stress, perhaps now is the time to embrace what is true, reject what is false, and remember those values that we have always held as being admirable.

Everyone can understand the feeling of circumstances being out of their control, and these are often the things we care most about.

What does petition the Lord with prayer mean?
A prayer of petition is a request to God that asks him to fulfill a need. By prayer of petition, Christians acknowledge their dependence on God. Jesus said to bring our every need to God in his name and assures that "whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you."

What is the difference between prayer and supplication?
Most people regard both as terms describing prayers with no difference between them.

Supplication is a form of prayer but considered as kneeling down and bending down in which someone makes a humble petition or an entreaty God. Prayer, however, can be defined as sincere thanksgiving or requests made to God.

Jim Morrison was an extremely intelligent individual and he was very fond of books, litterature and ideas. When he's asking the rhetorical question of "can petition the Lord with prayer", he's answering No; he's asking and answering the same question that Martin Luther asked about 500 years ago - that lead to the Protestantitism.

Morrison means the same; you can pray (and pay) as much as you want, but if you want to be a good person, and if you want good things to happen; you need to DIY; (do it yourself).

Can I really not petition the Lord with a prayer?
This question suggests that you are unfamiliar with Christianity. The Lord’s Prayer consists of seven petitions, beginning with "may Your name be holy" and including requests for mercy, food, and protection.

Christians view prayer as a one-on-one with GOD; the answers may be no, in which case we complain that we didn’t get an answer. Or an answer may simply be a feeling of peace.

According to Jim Morrison, you can not petition the lord with prayer!
According to the bible, God, Jesus, and the Prophets, you can petition the lord with prayer.

Whichever of these answers appeals to you the most, the idea of doing things for yourself, looking for the truth and rejecting false information, and remembering the basic values that we have always held dear, seems to be the correct path that we might wish to follow.

In closing I would like to mention something amazing about the human bodies that we now inhabit. There is a fascinating something that they have never bothered to tell us about all those radio waves that surround us every day.

Our bodies are electrical, and thus our DNA and our brains are affected by these electromagnetic fields (and radio is just one example of this, with the visual spectrum being another) and we’re literally bathing in it. When you do manage to get away from it, even if it is only for a short time, you can tell.

Everything not in harmony with our natural vibrations harms us to some extent. This is just one more thing we have to deal with. We are literally tuning forks. And there is No Getting Completely Away from it - It Permeates Everything.

So perhaps limiting what you see and hear, what you read and study, what you follow on the internet, what you listen to in music and videos, is actually a good idea.
When you get a chance to leave your home, go to the woods or the desert. Listen to growing things like the trees and animals, and ditch all of the dead signals that you have been taking in. Reboot and Enjoy.

I wouldn't describe myself as a Christian Jim , but I'm in agreement with you about Prayer ....

A sceptic might ask "If God is all knowing why do we have to Pray to remind him about what needs fixing?"

This is a free will reality , we have total freedom (so do the malevolent ET's and dark spirits) . None of the good guys (or God) will interfere UNLESS INVITED... If people don't believe in God , or don't feel worthy of his help then it can't be given ...

So Prayer is not about sucking up to God or Worshiping him ... It's about formulating specific requests and inviting assistance on that issue ...You can ask for good health , protection from accidents , immunity from mind control interference from the dark ones ...

We are informed (KM) that what we should all be Praying for at this time is that the Dark Forces oppressing humanity receive love and are healed , this way they loose interest in tormenting us , and move on ... Unless enough people do this WE WILL BE DESTROYED

If all living are given the choice of either good or evil, then why would God intervene with Love to a spirit that chooses to be Evil? Do you really believe that the Love of a human can alter the Evil of a Demon? Then it appears you have never encountered one. In this situation, I believe God would help the Good person who is being attacked but not force the Evil Demon to take a way he would not wish to go. Remember the Pigs entered by the Demons in the Bible? God did not force them to change against their will, but he helped rid the possessed man of them.

Well God is not intervening .. WE call the shots ...Without a request from humans he will do nothing ... These are the rules in this free will game ... So if not enough Pray for this humanity will get destroyed , yet again! God will then have to consider adjusting the parameters to solve the problem of evil , which if not addressed , could spread outside this Galaxy ... It is an experiment and even God does not now the outcome , if he did it would be boring for him

The same is true at all levels of existence... If someone does you a grievous harm , you may feel justified in smiting them , and then they get back at you and it continues in endless life cycles ... the only way to move up is by forgiveness this gets YOU out of a negative karmic cycle.

Our society is controlled by malevolent ET's who were corrupted billions of years ago by fallen angels , they are the definition of evil , torturing raping and eating our children by the millions ... We are informed the only way to end this is by forgiving them , inviting Creator to join us in healing them ..

So yes love from humans and the divine can heal these demons ... Love can do that! ... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCg1...YGbkS3Q/videos

I heard all crazy theories about Morrison, the most crazy one was that he didn't die in France but went to India and became a holy man whatever that means.
My cousin went to see his burial place in the Père Lachaise Cemetery it is a very popular place with fans.

without doubt he was a great artist for his time, wasn't that all part of his play? all the Shamans stories and experiences, peiote and allucinogenics he took, sure he knew a lot of things, he was open to all sorts of experiences, he was not an average artist, that's I am sure.

I completely agree. Either we send our petitions outward, in unison, thus signalling that we are not available and not open to the madness and evil of others, or we learn to return to our established values, help our neighbors as well as ourselves, and do it ourselves. Either way this united energy is very powerful, perhaps the most powerful.

I did not know, until recently, that he, as I do, read Blake. I had heard he was intelligent and well read, but Blake is an acquired taste. Blake was, in my opinion, a designated scout - his messages were meant to test the waters of the public, so that he and his esoterically minded brothers could tell whom was whom. As you say, he was more than the normal artist.
