These days, it might seem like everyone's talking about electric vehicles. You unplug them and go, feeling better about both your wallet and your contribution to the environment.

But in 2016, engineering student Lex Hoefsloot decided we don't have to stop at plain old EVs — cofounding and becoming the CEO of Lightyear Motors, a Netherlands-based EV firm aiming at delivering the first highly capable solar car.

Lightyear's goal is to allow its drivers to be energy independent by not needing to rely on the power grid for energy. In Lightyear's upcoming vehicle, the One, Hoefsloot says drivers could go months without charging.

Innovation is the key to breaking old thought patterns and cultural norms.

yeah yeah, and that will turn people like me with old diesel pick truck more than 20 years old (no black smoke I promisse) to be politically incorrect or a treat for the climate of course, i would be finned for sure for my co2 emissions, for the records I heard in Bangkok they already doing it.
Amazing innovations, but who can afford a car like that? certainly just a few, or the greedy vendors are going to replace our old cars with the new ones to be in full compliance with the beautiful laws that serves only their interests?

I bet you they will be selling air in a few years!

I'm afraid putting solar panels on a car is just a gimmick .. You maybe able to get a square meter of cells on a car .. these will generate on average 300WHrs of energy per day .

From figures in the video the car needs 15 kw to run ... so if the car sits in the sun for 50days it will have charged the battery enough to run the car for 1 Hr !

The people behind this car do know this , they are trusting on the public's scientific illiteracy..
