The Simple Reason that Nothing Can Move Faster than the Speed of Light

    Short but Surprising
This will be short but get ready for a shock. Forget about everything you may have heard about causality, time dilation, infinite mass, relativity, etc. The reason is that the speed of light is the only possible speed. Nothing can move faster or slower, period. Huh? That’s right. The universe is discrete and, as explained below, a time dimension is impossible. This means that motion consists of a series of extremely minute discrete jumps (quantum jumps, if you like), each of which happens at the speed of light over a minute fundamental distance. If a body is observed to move slower than light, it is because it is at rest part of the time, that is to say, it has rest periods between the jumps. At the speed of light, it is all jumps with no rest periods. At half the speed of light, a body is at rest half the time. At ordinary speeds, it is at rest almost all the time with only a few jumps sprinkled in.

    But Why?
Why is there only one speed in the universe? It is because there is no time dimension. Therefore nature cannot calculate durations. But why is there no time dimension? The short answer is that motion in time is self-referential and thus time cannot change. The slightly longer and more technical answer is that moving in time implies a velocity in time which would have to be given as v = dt/dt = 1, which is nonsense. That is it. A time dimension would make motion impossible. Nothing can move in spacetime for this reason. We live in the continually changing present always. And no, we are not moving in time from the past toward the future.

Do not let time travel believers and relativists trick you with talk of time dilation and the like. Yes, clocks can be observed to slow down and speed up but it is not because time dilates or shrinks. It is only because of underlying phenomena having to do with energy conservation. By the way, the impossibility of a time dimension is the reason that famous science philosopher Sir Karl Popper wrote in Conjectures and Refutations [pdf] that spacetime was “Einstein’s block universe in which nothing happens.”

    Many Consequences
Nontemporality has many other consequences for physics and science in general. For example, it explains why the decay of subatomic particles is necessarily probabilistic. Of course, time travel is pure nerd nonsense. But if you think that nontemporality is intriguing, wait until you find out about nonspatiality. That’s right, space does not exist either! Reality is stranger than you think. We will write more about the nonexistence of space and time in future articles. Thanks for reading.

Question Re: The Simple Reason that Nothing Can Move Faster than the Speed of Light

If Light travels at a speed of 299,792 kilometers per second; (186,287 miles per second). It takes 499.0 seconds (8 minutes 19 seconds) for light to travel from the Sun to the Earth, a distance called: "1 Astronomical Unit".

Imagine if our Sun vanished in thin air instantly ... How long does it take for all of us to sense something is different? ... is it: 8 minutes 19 seconds AFTER it happened or: (near) instantly? ... Can we all detect the effect of "Gravitons" that keeps Earth in its orbit not being slingshot out ... yes or no? ... And what about Tachyons?

About a hundred years ago, Einstein predicted the existence of gravitational waves, but until now, they were undetectable. But after: Gravitational Waves Detected, Confirming Einstein’s Theory ...What Are Gravitational Waves, and Why Do They Matter?
    • It is never too late to question any assumption people love to have & promote.

    • What Can Quantum Mechanics Teach Us About Beyond Speed of Light?
Certain phenomena in quantum mechanics, such as quantum entanglement, might give the superficial impression of allowing communication of information faster than light. According to the no-communication theorem these phenomena do not allow true communication; they only let two observers in different locations see the same system simultaneously, without any way of controlling what either sees. Wavefunction collapse can be viewed as an epiphenomenon of quantum decoherence, which in turn is nothing more than an effect of the underlying local time evolution of the wavefunction of a system and all of its environment. Since the underlying behavior does not violate local causality or allow FTL communication, it follows that neither does the additional effect of wavefunction collapse, whether real or apparent.

The uncertainty principle implies that individual photons may travel for short distances at speeds somewhat faster (or slower) than c, even in vacuum; this possibility must be taken into account when enumerating Feynman diagrams for a particle interaction. However, it was shown in 2011 that a single photon may not travel faster than c. In quantum mechanics, virtual particles may travel faster than light, and this phenomenon is related to the fact that static field effects (which are mediated by virtual particles in quantum terms) may travel faster than light (see section on static fields above). However, macroscopically these fluctuations average out, so that photons do travel in straight lines over long (i.e., non-quantum) distances, and they do travel at the speed of light on average. Therefore, this does not imply the possibility of superluminal information transmission.

There have been various reports in the popular press of experiments on faster-than-light transmission in optics — most often in the context of a kind of quantum tunnelling phenomenon. Usually, such reports deal with a phase velocity or group velocity faster than the vacuum velocity of light. However, as stated above, a superluminal phase velocity cannot be used for faster-than-light transmission of information.

    • Maybe we all live in a Universe (or even a Multiverse!) using the: "Speed of Thought" connected to a Collective Universal Consciousness ... If so, what does this mean?

Well sorry, the only nonsense here was that article. Time travel is nonsense? Time slips exist for one thing, and they are well documented. Time has no dimension? Time has many dimensions.

Science hacks, some of them are little better that political hacks. So he has a pet theory, but he didn't really present every real evidence, or describe any real science. Personally I think he's talking out of his arse.

Lightbulb Re: The Simple Reason that Nothing Can Move Faster than the Speed of Light

    • Extraterrestrial Visitation: "The Speed-of-Light-Limit Argument"
The Leading Theory-Based Rejectionist Argument (which we all know) The speed of light is a universal upper limit. Distances between stars range from 4.3 light years to Alpha Centauri to a hundred thousand light years across the Milky Way galaxy to millions of light years between galaxies. These facts are incompatible with tens of thousands of apparent visitations
    • Comment on the Argument:
I agree completely that if the only way to get from star system A to star system B is to travel at sublight speed, this rules out frequent visitation. You might expect a visit once every ten thousand years (to cite a number I believe Carl Sagan once pulled out of his hat) even if the galaxy is teeming with civilizations. The questions is, are there conceivable alternatives to slogging through space? Maybe.
    • The Alternatives Worth Considering
The speed-of-light limit only applies to motion through four-dimensional spacetime. Perhaps wormholes are possible. That is a concept for which Kip Thorne gets the credit (or the blame). It is an old, but still valid, argument for how traveling through vast distances might be circumvented. Perhaps spacetime itself can be stretched as proposed by the relativist Miguel Alcubierre. There is no speed-of-light limit to spacetime stretching. After all, spacetime beyond the Hubble horizon must be receding from us at v>c. The Alcubierre “warp drive” (Class. Quant. Grav., 11-5, L73-L77, 1994) shows that spacetime warping and stretching around a bubble of flat spacetime is mathematically consistent with general relativity. This sounds promising, but the energy requirements seem to be impossible, which is of course not a good thing. Modern superstring and M-brane theory imply the existence of numerous additional dimensions. Recent work indicates that these additional dimensions may be much larger than the Planck scale. The article “The Universe’s Unseen Dimensions” by Nima Arkani-Hamed, Savas Dimopoulos and Georgi Dvali in the August 2000 issue of Scientific American, for example, is a good summary of some current thinking on additional spatial dimensions as large as a millimeter: “Our whole universe may sit on a membrane floating in a higher-dimensional space. Extra dimensions might explain why gravity is so weak and could be the key to unifying all the forces of nature.” Perhaps it is possible to lift off the membrane-universe constituting our four-dimensional spacetime, move in one of the additional dimensions where speed-of-light limits may not apply, and reenter our membrane-universe very far away. All of this is speculation of course, but it is worth noting that disappearing in place, changing shape or sometimes jumping discontinuously from location to location is frequently reported in UFO observations. Such behavior could conceivably be associated with motion into and out of a perpendicular dimension.
    • Possible Conclusion
The speed-of-light limit argument against the UFO phenomenon is a theory-based one, but even without suspending the laws of relativity it may not be valid. We simply know too little about other possibilities to rule them out, and for that reason the appropriate thing to do is to suspend judgment based on this argument.

A light-year is the distance that light can travel in one year — about 6 trillion miles (10 trillion kilometers). It's one way that astronomers and physicists measure immense distances across our universe.

Light travels from the moon to our eyes in about 1 second, which means the moon is about 1 light-second away. Sunlight takes about 8 minutes to reach our eyes, so the sun is about 8 light-minutes away. Light from Alpha Centauri, which is the nearest star system to our own, requires roughly 4.3 years to get here, so Alpha Centauri is 4.3 light-years away.

"To obtain an idea of the size of a light-year, take the circumference of the Earth (24,900 miles), lay it out in a straight line, multiply the length of the line by 7.5 (the corresponding distance is one light-second), then place 31.6 million similar lines end to end," said NASA's Glenn Research Center. "The resulting distance is almost 6 trillion (6,000,000,000,000) miles!"

Stars and other objects beyond our solar system lie anywhere from a few light-years to a few billion light-years away. And everything astronomers "see" in the distant universe is literally history. When astronomers study objects that are far away, the objects appear as they existed at the time that light left them.

I said the same on record as a Speaker & Organizer/Co-Founder at our 1st International UFO Conference November 20th, 1992 in Amsterdam The Netherlands called: "UFO's and the New World Order" it was sold-out (850 attended) and we needed at least 350 extra to fit in so we organized it later in 1994 & 1996 again but this time with over 1200 people coming.

Lightbulb Re: The Simple Reason that Nothing Can Move Faster than the Speed of Light

    • "Faster Than Light" Warp Drive May Be More Feasible Than Thought, Scientists Say!
A ring-shaped warp drive device could transport a football-shape starship (center) to effective speeds faster than light. The concept was first proposed by Mexican physicist Miguel Alcubierre. (Image credit: Harold White)

HOUSTON — A warp drive to achieve faster-than-light travel — a concept popularized in television's Star Trek — may not be as unrealistic as once thought, scientists say.
A warp drive would manipulate space-time itself to move a starship, taking advantage of a loophole in the laws of physics that prevent anything from moving faster than light. A concept for a real-life warp drive was suggested in 1994 by Mexican physicist Miguel Alcubierre; however, subsequent calculations found that such a device would require prohibitive amounts of energy.

Now physicists say that adjustments can be made to the proposed warp drive that would enable it to run on significantly less energy, potentially bringing the idea back from the realm of science fiction into science.

"There is hope," Harold "Sonny" White of NASA's Johnson Space Center said here Friday (Sept. 14) at the 100 Year Starship Symposium, a meeting to discuss the challenges of interstellar spaceflight.
    • Warping space-time
An Alcubierre warp drive would involve a football-shape spacecraft attached to a large ring encircling it. This ring, potentially made of exotic matter, would cause space-time to warp around the starship, creating a region of contracted space in front of it and expanded space behind. [Star Trek's Warp Drive: Are We There Yet? | Video]

Meanwhile, the starship itself would stay inside a bubble of flat space-time that wasn't being warped at all.

"Everything within space is restricted by the speed of light," explained Richard Obousy, president of Icarus Interstellar, a non-profit group of scientists and engineers devoted to pursuing interstellar spaceflight. "But the really cool thing is space-time, the fabric of space, is not limited by the speed of light."

With this concept, the spacecraft would be able to achieve an effective speed of about 10 times the speed of light, all without breaking the cosmic speed limit.

The only problem is, previous studies estimated the warp drive would require a minimum amount of energy about equal to the mass-energy of the planet Jupiter.
But recently White calculated what would happen if the shape of the ring encircling the spacecraft was adjusted into more of a rounded donut, as opposed to a flat ring. He found in that case, the warp drive could be powered by a mass about the size of a spacecraft like the Voyager 1 probe NASA launched in 1977.

Furthermore, if the intensity of the space warps can be oscillated over time, the energy required is reduced even more, White found.

"The findings I presented today change it from impractical to plausible and worth further investigation," White told SPACE.com. "The additional energy reduction realized by oscillating the bubble intensity is an interesting conjecture that we will enjoy looking at in the lab."
    • Laboratory tests
White and his colleagues have begun experimenting with a mini version of the warp drive in their laboratory.

They set up what they call the White-Juday Warp Field Interferometer at the Johnson Space Center, essentially creating a laser interferometer that instigates micro versions of space-time warps.

"We're trying to see if we can generate a very tiny instance of this in a tabletop experiment, to try to perturb space-time by one part in 10 million," White said.
He called the project a "humble experiment" compared to what would be needed for a real warp drive, but said it represents a promising first step.

And other scientists stressed that even outlandish-sounding ideas, such as the warp drive, need to be considered if humanity is serious about traveling to other stars.
"If we're ever going to become a true spacefaring civilization, we're going to have to think outside the box a little bit, we're going to have to be a little bit audacious," Obousy said.

You just saw a tiny fraction (I shared here in this Project Avalon Forum Thread) of the bigger picture that there are enough indicators & facts ... clearly shows that the "simple reason" assumption claiming: "nothing" can go faster than the speed of light is not a correct assumption.

Hey John. I can see that you have put a lot of thought into this topic, and it has captured the imagination of many people. The very basics of our understanding seem to be assailed by this notion of FTL, since we live in a time of theoretical science, that has outstripped the empirical evidence.

I wonder if the problem might be seen another way?

The very notion of FTL comes from relativistic ideation based on a firm belief that the universe is fundamentally 'grainy' in nature, being comprised of a sea of tiny particles that interact in such a way as to manifest a universe of matter and energy. But if you analysis the above sentence it becomes obvious that these are mainly ambiguous labels given to mostly unknown qualities.

So what you really have is a modern day myth wrapped up in a tidy package given credibility by those that make a living quantifying unknown qualities. We do not understand light and photons any better than we understand any other fundamental particle. The 'speed' of light is a myth just as much as the 'god' particle, that has been statistically 'discovered' 100 times out of 1,000,000,000 collisions in their massive machines, bestows mass. It is merely using sophisticated language to cover up the fact that the labels still have no underlying explanation that collects them into a comprehensive whole. The modern explanation is no more accurate than to claim that the world was created in seven days by a being with a white beard somewhere in the clouds of heaven...

What if consciousness has a role to play? What if light rushes away from the unenlightened? What if the only way to live lives of ignorance requires that the light be refused entry? What if it is not the light that rushes away but we that rush away from light?

Could it be that there is a limit imposed on limited beings playing a limiting game - so as not to contaminate the entire universe with their barbaric nature and thereby limit other races on other worlds?

Does our collective consciousness need to catch up to the light to embrace it?

I believe there may be two ways to travel faster than light. One where you cheat and require the laws of the universe do your bidding using technology. The other is to ready the mind by sincere and earnest investigation of the fundamentals, without bias or the wish for personal aggrandizement.

In one we hurtle unprepared into the unknown. In the other we genuinely seek to expand our knowledge and then set out with a mission and a purpose to investigate the unknown with an ever expanding consciousness based in light of the truth where only clarity and integrity can go.

Those are my thoughts these days on the issue anyway, for the little it's worth. I think we have a lot more to unlearn, or relearn, before we can even begin to understand what is involved with interstellar travel. We could ask the SSP or maybe our alien overlords how they do it, but they may not want us plebes to know the truth.

So many things seems "impossible" at first ... for example what very strong magnets can do if you would show it to people in the 17th century ... later when people see the broader context it makes much more sense ... I feel it will not be that much different with FTL technology around 2030

If time and space can somehow be manipulated with new technology ... it may be possible to be "out of time & space" and back again elsewhere. The person may not even "move" but everything around it does. This is just the beginning.

    cheers,

Who needs time when there are unlimited light dimensions. Think prisma.
What happens to light when it gets sucked in a so called black hole?
We as humans can only see a fraction of all light.
Asuming there is only one speed of light is like asuming there is only one colour!

    Black lights matter!
    (I had to ad that)

Nikola Tesla not only proved that Einstein was incorrect, and that there is no speed of light limitation like some type of stop sign or similar, but he published one of his radio experiments in which he gives the time for one of his signals to circle around the Earth. It's very clear but most people that have read it did not do the math. If you do the math, you will learn that the radio wave traveled at 1.16 times the speed of light. His comments were that it would have gone even faster had he the properly tuned equipment on the day of the experiment. I would believe him over Einstein, or indeed, over most of what we get from science papers today.

My Nan always used to tell me I moved faster than the speed of light when she got the cake tin out.

I can’t believe she lied to me 😑😂

While I agree with this in its basic principle (the ideas of "jumps" creating perceived movement has occurred to me since my early twenties) ... A related question I might ask is, if a "jump" occurs in non-time, then why does the speed of light have a "speed" at all (why does light take time to travel)?

Also to add, from how I see it, these "jumps" aren't a "stuttering" like effect. Everything exists completely stationary when it occurs, then it mysteriously vanishes for an infinitesimal amount of time while the variables are adjusted, then it re-appears expressing the resultant new variables, which includes perceived change in placement causing what we know as movement.

This physical world is only a result, and the adjustment of the variables does not happen here - it happens somewhere else, on another plane of reality, perhaps, but not here. Yet, we can direct the change of those variable from here - this is what physical biology is - it is a method to direct the change in variables from the perspective of the result. So that assumption requires that we are not the result, but the variable changer on the flip side of physicality, having an experience in physicality. This concept has formed the basis behind the ideas of true spirituality.

So while "faster than light" travel may be impossible to be directed from the side of physicality, it may not be if directed from the "place" (for lack of a better word) where the variables are altered (playing into the probably answer to my earlier question). One can extrapolate this idea perhaps to some UFO flight phenomenon.

edit: seems related to another recently reintroduced word: "Tesseract".
