Apparently Archbishop Vigano's letter is having deep affects in the Roman Catholic world, and the pope is feeling them.
From:https://www.americamagazine.org/fait...critics-241472When a Jesuit in Slovakia asked Pope Francis “How are you?”, the pope stunned them with his answer: “Still alive, even though some people wanted me to die.”

Pope Francis remarked, “There is, for example, a large Catholic television channel that has no hesitation in continually speaking ill of the pope.” He said: “I personally deserve attacks and insults because I am a sinner, but the church does not deserve them. They are the work of the devil. I have also said this to some of them.”

EWTN and its associated publications, the National Catholic Register and Catholic News Agency, along with its more than 500 radio affiliates, have been highly critical of Pope Francis. The National Catholic Register was one of two outlets that published the former nuncio to the United States and QAnon conspiracy theorist Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò’s explosive 2018 “testimony” calling on the pope to resign. Raymond Arroyo, the host of EWTN’s “The World Over,” has interviewed many of Pope Francis’ most fervent critics, including Archbishop Viganò, Trump adviser Steve Bannon and Cardinal Raymond Burke.
So, we basically have a somewhat left group of Catholics and somewhat right group of Catholics, both calling each other out as being in cahoots with Satan!!!
There are already some other simmering controversies in the R.C. church going on. Whether Bishop's have the right to restrict priests and parishes from celebrating the Latin (Tridentine) Mass, whether the church should work towards allowing women to become deacons, and what to do about the church's dwindling coffers which are paying out larger and larger settlements to victims of child abuse.
As an R.C. church music director, I have to say cancel culture is coming to the church too - we are constantly removing hymns from the repertoire - some, because the right wing is finding that the words are "heretical" and reflect ideas held by Protestants and not Catholics, and on the left, because we keep find out more composers are sexual abusers.
I sure hope this doesn't affect my ability to get a paycheck from them.
