    He is dying slowly

    He dies slowly
the one who does not travel,
the one who does not read,
the one who does not listen to music,
the one who does not know how to find
    thanks to his eyes.
    He dies slowly
the one who destroys his self-esteem,
the one who never lets himself be helped.
    He dies slowly
one who becomes a slave of habit
repeating the same paths every day,
the one who never changes his landmark,
    Never risk changing the color
    of his clothes
Or never talk to a stranger
    He dies slowly
    one who avoids passion
    and its whirlwind of emotions
those that restore light to the eyes
    and mend wounded hearts
    He dies slowly
the one who does not change course
    when he is unhappy
    at work or in love,
the one who does not take risks
to make your dreams come true,
the one who, not once in his life,
did not shy away from sound advice.
    Live now!
    Take a chance today!
    Act now !
Do not let yourself die slowly!
Do not deprive yourself of being happy !

Pablo Neruda, pen name of Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes-Basoalto, born July 12, 1904 in Parral (Maule region) and died September 23, 1973 in Santiago de Chile, is a Chilean poet, writer, diplomat, politician and thinker .

He is considered one of the four greats of Chilean poetry along with Gabriela Mistral, Pablo de Rokha and Vicente Huidobro and one of the most influential artists of his century. He received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971. Joined the Communist Party of Chile, of which he was a member of the central committee, he was also Senator and Ambassador of Chile in France.

Officially died of cancer twelve days after the 1973 coup, the hypothesis of an assassination was increasingly raised in the 2010s by the Chilean government and experts.

"He dies slowly", what an appropriate way to describe such a very common existence. Or as Thoreau put it: "The mass of men live lives of quiet desperation", which Pink Floyd later picked incorporated into the all time classic "Time".

There are many ways to say the same thing. And Lunesoleil, about half way through reading that one of my all time favorite songs "The Rose", by Bette Midler, came drifting back through my head. Yet another way of saying the same timeless thing:

    Thanks for the reminder!

Wow - I read just the first delightful verse ‘carnal Apple, Woman Filled, Burning Moon". What a blissful treat, the fire and passion in the arrangement of those evocative words. I just have to read it again . . .

Years ago, when I took my young children to the National Gallery and they were running amok after 10 minutes (I know, I know, but I was young and inexperienced myself), I was told by one of the guides that whenever Princess Margaret brought her children to the Gallery, it was to view one painting, and one painting only, which was savoured intimately and thoroughly.

Reading and appreciating poetry is the same as viewing great works of art
