Around 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2023, a 45-year-old man made a cardio-respiratory arrest while participating in the La Frappadingue obstacle course in Les Andelys. He was taken care of by the firefighters. Cardiac activity was finally recovered.

    Transported by helicopter
The runner was then transported to Rouen University Hospital by helicopter. Five firefighters and the gendarmerie were solicited.

According to our information, the forty-year-old is part of the "Gallois" team and fell while crossing a basin filled with water. One of his teammates came to assist him. The others called for help. In the meantime, they gave a heart massage to the victim. The obstacle was immediately condemned for the following teams.

This is the fourth time that this race has been organized in Les Andelys. About 1,500 runners started throughout the morning.

Quote Basso wins Rally Team 971, fatal illness for Paganini

    By Press Releases - March 26, 2023

The predictions on the eve indicated them as the sure protagonists of this 49th Rally Team 971. The presence of Giandomenico Basso and Simone Scattolin was aimed at a test race on the Skoda Fabia Evo 2 of the Delta Rally with the Movisport colors in view of the next Italian commitments .

But the four-time Italian champion and his co-driver as usual have honored the commitment in the best possible way by imposing a decidedly irrepressible pace right from the start, so much so that after the first three special stages the gap accumulated by Chentre, their closest pursuer, was more than thirty seconds.

Basso set the best time on five of the six stretches disputed, leaving the Aosta Valley rider with the satisfaction of signing partial success on the second pass at Moransengo. Chentre for his part said he was very satisfied with the result. For the first time at the start together with Federico Boglietti, he took advantage of the special stages between the provinces of Turin and Asti to rediscover the mechanisms in view of the commitments in the Zonal Rally Cup in which he will participate on board D'Ambra's Skoda Fabia Evo.

On the third step of the podium finae Patrick Gagliasso and Dario Beltramo also climb on the Czech berlinetta cared for by Roger Tuning and, like Chentre, called this season to challenge in the regional cup. Fourth place finish for Loris Ronzano and Gloria Andreis to compose a top ten entirely dominated by the Skoda brand.

Massimo Marasso from Cuneo takes the Fabia R5 to fifth place overall and precedes the identical car of the young Davide Porta with Alberto Porzio slowed down by an inappropriate choice of tyres. Mario Trolese and Emilio Martinotti (Skoda Fabia) are seventh and excel in the classification reserved for over 55s. Positive performance for Stefano Monchietto and Alessia Binello at the start on the Skoda (Alma Racing) with which they manage to control the moves of the always excellent Claudio Vona and Simone D'Agostino crew from Valle d'Aosta at the start on the sedan of Cars For Fun.

Mauro Beltramo and Enrico Ghietti close the absolute top ten with yet another Skoda Evo in the race. The 15th Historic Rally was won by the Biellese Marco Bertinotti and Andrea Rondi at the start on the Porsche 911 who preceded the other Porsche of fellow countrymen Roberto Rimoldi and Roberto Consiglio. Third overall position for the very fast Paolo Rossi and Daniele Gaia aboard the Opel Corsa.

The race was marred by the sudden illness of competitor number 112 Renato Paganini. The driver from Piacenza was in the race together with Elena Bertolli in the Opel Ascona. During the first special stage in Albugnano he was suddenly taken ill. Rescue was timely with the intervention of two ambulances and an air ambulance that transported the unfortunate pilot to Molinette in Turin where he ceased to live in the early afternoon.

The cause appears to be cardiac arrest.

Quote Veteran coach succumbs to a heart attack during Ironman 70.3 swim course

    MARIANNE L. SABERON-ABALAYAN
    March 26, 2023

THE Davao City swimming community mourns the death of veteran swimming coach Jerry Kasim who succumbed to a heart attack during the swimming course of the Alveo Ironman 70.3 Davao Sunday, March 26. He was 49.

His younger sister Sanita Kasim Soreny, a former national dragon boat team member now based in the United Kingdom, said his sudden death left the family by surprise as they were not aware of any heart-related disease he may have had.

Soreny said her brother was brought to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) but could no longer be revived.

Kasim, who resides in the Island Garden City of Samal but stays in Km. 11 in Sasa whenever he stays in Davao City, will be buried on Monday, March 27, following the 24-hour customary burial Muslim tradition.

Kasim, who came from a family of swimmers, is a seasoned tanker who represented the city and the region in several Palarong Pambansa and National Prisaa Games during his high school and college years. He became a coach and trainer to age-group swimmers and eventually formed his Jerry Aquatics Swimming Team.

Decorated swimming coach Haroon Cali said, in a Facebook interview, that he and Kasim were not close but talk when they see each other, usually in tournaments.

"Ganina same zone mi, gitawag ko niya, nag good luck lang (We were on the same zone, he called me to say good luck)," Cali recalled, adding that Kasim was also competing in the relay team.

Kasim, an employee of Deped Davao City's disbursing section, is survived by his two children, who are both swimmers. His eldest child coaches the DMMA College Southern Philippines (DCSP) swimming team.

Soreny said, "He is a good kuya (brother). We always run to him for help. He always said he doesn't have any, but he does help all the time in terms of financial problems."

Deped employee Lydia Ampo, in a separate interview, said: "Buutan kaayo na sya. Trainer sya sa private ug public. Hilumon na sya pero daghan na sya na train na mga bata. Ginakuha na sya trainer sa Deped (He is very kind. He is a private and public trainer. He is quiet but he has trained many children. Deped also hires him as a trainer.)

Swimmer Andi Espiritu took to Facebook, saying that Kasim coached him since he was a kid. "You saw potential in me, which made me want to continue swimming and pursue to be a competitive swimmer to the point that when we have training before comps, I would get pissed off if I was a minute late and the other swimmers would get pass me, even though I knew I could beat them. You were a second father to me."

Espiritu said Coach Jerry fulfilled his dream of becoming a competitive swimmer at the national level.

"It will take time for me to recover mentally, but I will make sure that I will pursue swimming and dedicate all my games to you. You mean so much to me, Coach, and you will forever stay in my heart. I love you, coach, rest easy," Espiritu added.

Kat Elises, the mother of bemedalled Dabawenyo swimmer John Paul, a De La Salle University varsity swimmer, also shared on Facebook that Coach Jerry taught her boys to swim and "so many more that they need in life."

"Thank you so much, Coach Jerry. I know you are proud of JP and his achievements. Happy din kami because the last thing you did was something you really wanted to do. Bye, coach. Until we meet again," Elises said.

Organizers of the Ironman 70.3 Davao confirmed the death of one of its race participants on Sunday, March 26.

"We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of a race participant at IRONMAN 70.3 Davao. The athlete required medical attention during the swim portion of the race and was transported to a nearby hospital where they were treated," Ironman said in a statement issued on Sunday evening.

The organizer declined to provide further details in respect of the family's request.

Quote Carlton Palmer kept in hospital following ‘suspected small heart attack’

    Staff Reporter 27 Mar 2023 7:56 PM

Former England midfielder Carlton Palmer said he was being kept in hospital for further tests following a “suspected small heart attack” during the Sheffield Half Marathon on Sunday.

Palmer – who had spells at West Brom, Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds during a lengthy playing career, winning 18 international caps – was admitted overnight with observations continuing.

The 57-year-old, who later had managerial stints at Stockport and Mansfield, underwent a lengthy operation in 2016 for a heart condition which involved surgery to widen arteries.

Palmer wrote on Twitter that his “heart played up again in the first mile” of Sunday’s race, which resulted in him going to hospital.

“Thank you so much for all the lovely messages I have being kept in hospital with a suspected small heart attack,” Palmer said in an updated Twitter post on Monday.

“They want to find out what has caused this problem so tests are ongoing.”

Quote Fatal illness while jogging. Former footballer and family man dies at 46

    27 March 2023

Emanuele Mangiavacchi had a competitive background in the ranks of Nuova Radicofani. Emergency services were called by a woman who saw the body lying out the window.

Piancastagnaio (Siena), 27 March 2023 - He was jogging in an area downstream from Piancastagnaio when he fell ill. The immediate intervention of the rescuers did not, unfortunately, serve to save him.

The fulminating illness resulted in the death of Emanuele Mangiavacchi, 46, a resident of vicolo dello Sdrucciolo. In the early afternoon of yesterday the man, who works in a leather goods shop in Valentano (in the Viterbo area), went to the Vignola area located in the lower part of Piancastagnaio. Here tranquility reigns.

The area, although inhabited, is not very busy. Mangiavacchi, who would have turned 47 in May, had a football background in Pianese and Nuova Radicofani in the Third Category where he had been brought and raised by manager Stefano Angeli and where he had played for a long time.

Emanuele was jogging yesterday maintaining his good athlete's habits when he fell ill. He slumped to the ground, he saw from the window of the house, a lady who lives not far from where the fact took place.

She called 118, in a few minutes the ambulance of the local Misericordia arrived, which has its headquarters very close to the place where the man collapsed. Given the seriousness of the situation, an ambulance from the Misericordia di Abbadia San Salvatore and the health workers also arrived. For minutes and minutes all the maneuvers were performed, including the use of the defibrillator, to revive him.

There was nothing to be done. The doctor had to certify the death. The police from the local station arrived on the scene. The judicial authority was notified of the incident which, after having taken note of the medical report and, in the absence of other hypotheses on the causes of death, ordered the release of the body to the family.

Emanuele leaves his daughter and wife and the whole world of sport in Amiata in pain.

Quote Heart attack at the Gran Fondo; Cyclist ends up at the Scotte

    27 March 2023

The 65-year-old man was admitted to the polyclinic, his life is not in danger. He fell ill in Piazza del Duomo, shortly before the start of the race.

Illness before the start of the GranFondo della Vernaccia for an amateur cyclist in Piazza Duomo. The man was immediately revived by 118 and urgently transferred with the Pegaso helicopter rescue to the Scotte di Siena. But he didn't appear to be in danger of life. The timely emergency-urgency intervention of the 118 of San Gimignano avoided the probable tragedy and saved the life of the 65-year-old cyclist from the province of Vicenza who arrived inside the walls to participate and get on the saddle on two wheels in the 'Granfondo della Vernaccia' cycle tour '.

The popular cycling race of historical memory was combined with the memory of the classic of the international amateurs 'Coppa Martiri di Montemaggio'. Yesterday morning before the departure in Piazza Duomo with about 300 participants, everything was ready for the start of the slow race on two wheels, when the man collapsed to the ground with no sign of life.

I was scared, then after the intervention of the volunteers and the resuscitation, that 'light of the heart' was finally rekindled and hospitalization at the Scotte with Pegaso was necessary. During transport, the 65-year-old was alert and present as told by friends who witnessed the scene.

Quote CSA-Makati says student-athlete dies while playing football

MANILA, Philippines — A student-athlete died after he collapsed while playing football over the weekend, the Colegio San Agustin (CSA) Makati said Monday. But the exact cause of the student’s death remains “unclear.”

“The student was participating in a Football varsity game outside the school when he collapsed. He was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital, but could not be revived,” the CSA-Makati said in a statement. The student died on Sunday, March 26.

“The cause of death is still unclear at this moment as we were informed that the hospital needs to conduct further examinations,” it added.

CSA-Makati, nevertheless, gave assurance that it is closely coordinating with the student’s family as well as the hospital personnel for more details and for any assistance it can provide.

It also vowed to support those affected by the news, with school guidance counselors and its wellness office available to students who need it.

Quote Juanfran, hospitalized for severe kidney failure

"In my career I have always put first to play on my own health. And maybe it was like that until the end of it," says the Oviedo soccer player, who is admitted to a center in Granada.

Real Oviedo player Juanfran Moreno has had to be hospitalized in Granada for a "severe kidney failure," as he himself has confirmed. The side was going to be a starter in Sunday's Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes match, but in the end he didn't play.

The soccer player has revealed that he began to notice symptoms on Saturday morning. "I got up urinating blood clots, I knew I was going to play on Sunday and I wanted to endure the pain," he said. But finally on Sunday he had to go to the hospital. "I had severe kidney failure due to the obstruction that the clots make in my kidney, in addition to losing blood," he said.

"Surely I should have come to the hospital the day before, but in my career I have always put first to play on my own health. And perhaps it has been so until the end of it," Juanfran wrote in a statement in which he thanked the concern of "all those who knew it and the hospital in Granada," where he remains hospitalized. "I'm calm, wanting to overcome this pothole and go home with my wife and daughters," the Oviedo player concluded.

    Full statement from Juanfran Moreno
"Good morning. To avoid speculation, I'm going to tell you what happened to me. On Saturday morning I got up urinating blood clots, I knew that on Sunday I was going to play after a long time working and waiting for that opportunity to enjoy and I wanted to endure the pain and urinating like this with the illusion of getting to the game. On Sunday morning, when I got up, I noticed that something was wrong in my body and I called the doctor to go to the hospital from the emergency room. I had severe kidney failure due to the obstruction that clots make in my kidney, in addition to losing blood. Surely I should have come to the hospital the day before, but in my career I have always put the first time to play on my own health. And maybe it was like that until the end of it. Thank all those who knew your concern and the hospital in Granada for the treatment I am receiving. I'm calm, wanting to overcome this bump and go home with my wife and daughters."

Quote Hawthorn youngster Jai Serong diagnosed with rare heart condition: ‘Shattered’

The 20-year-old will only be allowed to walk and stretch for 30 days.

Ben Sutton / AFL / Updated 4 hours ago

Hawthorn youngster Jai Serong will be sidelined for an extended period after being diagnosed with a rare heart condition.

The 20-year-old is suffering from pericarditis, which is an inflammation of tissue within the heart that often causes sharp chest pain.

Club doctor Liam West said Serong’s heart was fine, but the condition means he must undertake a strict training regime and be on medication.

He will only be able to walk and stretch for the next 30 days before undergoing more tests to determine whether he can increase his training.

“Jai is obviously shattered,” West said. “And we all are for him.”

West said the condition presented randomly, but if undetected could have ruined his entire season.

“The cardiologist believes Jai developed pericarditis after a viral infection that didn’t show symptoms,” West said.

“Further tests will be required before Jai is cleared to begin a graded exercise program.”

The youngster is already responding to the medication with his chest pain subsiding.

“In terms of his health, he’s going really well,” West said.

“He has no more chest pain and is slowly coming to terms with this.

“He is frustrated … but also relieved he will be able to get back out on the track and play during the season.”

Serong will also work with the club psychologist and wellbeing team to help navigate his recovery.

Serong, who is the younger brother of Fremantle star Caleb, arrived at the Hawks via pick No.52 in the 2021 national draft and made his AFL debut in Round 21 last year.

Quote Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has suffered a heart scare during a live streaming session with Spanish internet celebrity Ibai Llanos.

The ex-footballer, forced to retire from the game in December 2021 aged just 33 due to a heart condition, suddenly stopped talking and brought his hand to his chest. Ibai was filmed asking the Argentinian, "What's the matter?", as Aguero fell into silence and hung his head.

The former Argentina international appeared to gasp momentarily for breath before replying in an obvious state of shock: "Oh, I think... I think that I just suffered a minor arrhythmia." He appeared to be checking a monitor on his mobile as he said the words.
