Quote Family's tribute to talented footballer Mason Clarkson Carter, 13, who died after sudden illness

Hundreds say goodbye to popular teenager who had such a positive impact

    ByEmily Johnson
    05:00, 30 JAN 2023

A heartbroken family have paid tribute to a talented young footballer who died suddenly after contracting a sickness and diarrhoea bug.

"Sporty" and "healthy" Mason Clarkson Carter, a student at South Hunsley School, passed away just a few weeks before his 14th birthday. The much-loved teenager, who played for South Cave Sporting FC, was laid to rest last week.

Today, Mason's aunt described him as a "class clown" with a "great sense of humour". His death had come as "such a shock".

Mason's funeral came in the same week that another young Sporting player, 18-year-old Thomas Dennett, was laid to rest. Paying tribute, the club described them as "two beautiful boys".

Those who knew Mason, from Gilberdyke, described him as a "cheeky lad" that everyone had a soft spot for. He was a talented sportsman who excelled in football and rugby.

Just a week before his untimely death, Mason was running around on the football pitch. After he fell ill, he was taken to hospital twice, his aunt Emma Barnes said. On the second occasion, he was sent home from A&E, only to die a few days later, Emma added.

"It has come as such a shock to the family, he had his whole life ahead of him," she said. "He was running around playing football the week before he passed away and was such a sporty, healthy lad."

Mason died on November 17 last year, but his funeral at Haltemprice Crematorium was delayed for a post-mortem examination. Emma described how her nephew had such a positive impact on everyone around him.

All of us at the club are devastated to hear about the passing of youth team player Thomas Dennett, and our thoughts and condolences are with The Dennett Family and friends.

Thomas joined North Ferriby Youth at the age of 6 and went through to the U17s.

    January 30th, 2023 College, News, Pac-12

University of Arizona swimmer Ty Wells died on Friday, January 27, multiple sources have told SwimSwam. He was 23 years old.

The school confirmed the news on Instagram Monday evening.

Several people close to the program tell SwimSwam that rumors circulating that the death was caused by a motorcycle accident are untrue, and that the Arizona medical examiner is still working to determine the cause of death. The confusion may stem from a 2022 motorcycle accident in California that involved an individual with the same name.

Wells was in his 5th year on the team at Arizona and was majoring in physiology with plans to pursue a career in physical therapy or sports medicine.

A native of Ripon, California, Wells was a 2021-2022 CSCAA Scholar All-American. Last season, Wells finished 12th in the 100 breaststroke at the Pac-12 Championship meet.

While his only NCAA meet of the fall semester was Arizona’s intrasquad, his last competition was the 2022 US Open Championships, where he finished in 50th place in both the 100 breast and 200 breast.

As a senior at Ripon High School in 2018, he qualified for the California High School State Championship meet, where he finished 13th in the 100 yard breaststroke.

Quote Drama in Fondi: 55-year-old Stefano De Gregori dies while playing tennis.

    Di Redazione Uno - 30/01/2023

FONDI – He was playing tennis against a boy at the courts located in the center of Fondi when he suddenly collapsed to the ground just before noon.

Once they arrived on site, alarmed by the owner of the facility, the 118 doctors tried to revive him for almost forty minutes, but for 55-year-old Stefano De Gregori there was nothing they could do.

As reported by today's edition of "Il Messaggero - Latina", a sudden illness proved to be fatal for the man, just like for the carabiniere who was struck down by the same illness while jogging in the same moments in Aprilia.

On Friday, the news hit everyone at the club like a hammer: Assistant coach Marc Wischerhoff had to be hospitalized after an internal emergency and has been in a coma ever since.

"Of course, we haven't thought about training or games since then," said Jürgen Gertz, sporting director of the Hardter and a good friend of Wischerhoff. The news quickly spread to other clubs, and initial suspicions were made on websites.

However, Jürgen Gertz contradicted them: “It is an internal emergency. We can't say more at the moment. ”That's the state of affairs on Tuesday evening.

I actually watched about 10mins of this episode the other night and as I watched them being put through some pointless and punishing physical routines I thought to myself it would be no surprise if one of these contestants had a 'medical emergency'...

Quote MEDICAL EMERGENCY SAS: Who Dares Wins contestant rushed to hospital after suffering shock seizure on screen

    Published: 22:54, 30 Jan 2023Updated: 23:43, 30 Jan 2023

THERE was horror during the latest episode of SAS: Who Dares Wins as one contestant suffered a shocking seizure on-screen after being pushed to her limits during a brutal task.

Viewers watched on as Aliyah was left requiring urgent medical care before being rushed to hospital on the show.

Having been forced to undergo a number of tough challenges to whittle down the contenders, recruit number 12 Aliyah quickly had to lay down as her fellow recruits hurriedly gathered around her.

As panic began to set in, they were quickly left shouting for the help of the DS as they screamed that they required medical attention in the tent.

Amongst the commotion, Aliyah looked weary as she laid down open-mouthed as she appeared to struggle for air as the seizure took hold.

The medical team quickly arrived as they shut down the sleeping quarters so that they could focus on treating her.

As the doctor spoke to her, she looked up in a state of panic as she moaned and wriggled in the bed.

The doctor asked her if she was suffering from any pain anywhere as she appeared to attempt to mouth, 'yes'.

He then remarked to a member of the crew: "Ask for the paramedics, ask them for the ambulance team."

As she recoiled in pain, he began instructing that the dorm needed to be fully cleared out in the shocking scenes.

Quote ‘A friend to anyone’: Beloved tennis player dies after collapse on Summerlin court

By Sabrina Schnur Las Vegas Review-Journal
    January 31, 2023 - 2:07 pm

Ryan Vannah was in the tiebreaker of a mixed doubles tennis match on Sunday afternoon at Red Rock Country Club when he dropped to a knee.
The 43-year-old, with a lifelong passion for the sport and whose teams at Red Rock Country Club had recently celebrated a pair of national championships, placed his hands on the hard court and lay down.

Doctors watching the match rushed to perform CPR, but after 55 minutes of medical attention, his heart never restarted.

Vannah’s family had a history of high blood pressure, and he was on medication. His sister, Tami Vannah Kang, said he never showed any signs he was not managing the health issue.

“He took impeccable care of his health,” she said. “He was so fit. He lifted weights. He looked like a bodybuilder to me. He was huge. We did not see this coming.”

Vannah Kang was called at 5:10 p.m. Sunday, moments after her brother collapsed, and found her sister-in-law, Dr. Catherine Vannah, among those trying to revive him.

It wasn’t until they got to Summerlin Hospital and Medical Center that she and her husband broke down crying.

Ryan Vannah died at Summerlin Hospital later that day. The doctor and emergency medical staff at Summerlin Hospital said they believe he was on the wrong medication for his blood pressure.

The coroner’s office had not ruled on an official cause and manner of death as of Tuesday

Quote BREAKING: High School Senior Basketball Player Collapses From Cardiac Arrest During Game

    Feb 1, 2023

An 18-year-old high school basketball player in Detroit is on life support after going into cardiac arrest during a game on Tuesday night.

Detroit Public Schools Community District superintendent Nikolai Vitti sent a message late Tuesday night, announcing that Cartier Woods, a senior at Northwestern High School, “went into cardiac arrest” while he was playing in the varsity basketball home game against Detroit Douglass.

Woods was given CPR before being rushed to Henry Ford Hospital, about a mile away from the school. The superintendent wrote that Woods was placed on life support at the hospital and “the next 24 hours are critical for his survival.”

A spokesperson for DPSCD said later on Wednesday afternoon that he remains on life support and they are not releasing any further information at this time.

His aunt and legal guardian, Dwanda Woods, says the 18-year-old has been playing sports since he was 10 and has dreams of continuing to play in to college next year.

Woods says her nephew had no known heart conditions. She says paramedics delivered CPR for 40-60 minutes after he collapsed.

The family says they are in the process of setting up a GoFundMe but they are just asking for prayers in the meantime.

A senior student from Northwestern High School is in critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest Tuesday night during a basketball game.

Cartier Wood, 18, suffered a cardiac arrest during a game, according to an email sent by the school district superintendent.

“It is with a heavy heart that I send you this late evening email. Earlier this evening, Cartier Woods, a senior at Northwestern, went into cardiac arrest while playing in his basketball game at Northwestern,” said Nikolai P. Vitti, superintendent of Detroit Public Schools Community District.

Vitti said that CPR was administered to revive Woods, and he was rushed to the nearby hospital. The teen is still fighting for his life and is on life support.

“He was administered CPR and was rushed to Henry Ford Hospital. As of this email, he is on life support and the next 24 hours are critical for his survival. With the permission of Cartier Woods’ legal guardian, his aunt, I send this email to you requesting your prayers, thoughts, and/or well wishes for his recovery. I will be sure to keep everyone updated about Cartier’s health, and I pray to give you positive news!” the post continued.

Dwanda Woods, his aunt and legal guardian, told ABC Detroit that Cartier first started playing sports at the age of 10.

Quote 8th grader goes into cardiac arrest at game — then trainer rushes in, SC school says

BY SIMONE JASPER FEBRUARY 02, 2023 12:12 PM

An eighth grader went into cardiac arrest at a basketball game — then a trainer rushed in to help, a South Carolina school said.

The trainer, Chris Young, spent about 10 minutes performing CPR on middle school student Kamari Williams as the two waited for first responders, according to Southside Christian School.

“Kamari spent the night in the hospital and is receiving treatment,” the Greenville-area school wrote Feb. 1 in a Facebook post. “We are praising God for his life and the staff involved in the emergency.”

Kamari was playing basketball on Jan. 31 when he bumped into another player and then suffered cardiac arrest and a seizure, WHNS and WYFF reported. LaTonya Perry, the boy’s mother, told WYFF the medical incident reminded her of the situation involving Damar Hamlin, a Buffalo Bills player who was put on oxygen after he went into cardiac arrest during a football game. “By them working so fast, my son didn’t have any of that,” Perry told the TV station. “He wasn’t on any oxygen. He wasn’t on any breathing machine, his vitals are good.”

Quote Promise of dance found dead at 17, disappeared from home and discovered in the Giardini della Biennale in Venice

Francesca Tagliapietra, originally from Spresiano, daughter of the lawyer and municipal councilor Paolo

Thursday 2 February 2023 by Maria Elena Pattaro

The passion for dance and the dream of becoming an étoile. But that future still to be written and which promised to be radiant was tragically interrupted at the age of 17. Francesca Tagliapietra, originally from Spresiano, in the province of Treviso, was found dead on Tuesday morning in Venice, in the gardens of the Biennale. The young dancer was well known, not only in the Treviso area, but also in the world of dance. His untimely death shocked the entire community of Spresiano, where his father Paolo Tagliapietra, a well-known lawyer, is the city councilor with powers in charge of schools, culture, the environment and demographic services.

The girl had left the house on Monday evening, without saying a word about where she was headed. Her parents, not seeing her come home and not receiving any news from her, had reported her missing to the carabinieri at the local station. The search began immediately. For mom Monica, dad Paolo and brother Alvise these were hours of anguish, marked both by the fear that something bad had happened to Francesca, and by the hope of finding her safe and sound. Unfortunately that was not the case.

Hopes were shattered on Tuesday morning, when the 17-year-old was found lifeless in the lagoon capital, in the Giardini della Biennale. The body showed no signs of a struggle and the police who intervened on the spot immediately ruled out the involvement of third parties in the girl's tragic death. For the family it was a very hard blow: the relatives, used to seeing her twirling on the stages, had to recognize her body between the gray walls of the morgue.

Quote DARTS star Momo Zhou has died suddenly aged 31.

The sport star made history by becoming the first woman to represent China in a televised PDC event at the World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt.

    Published: 17:40, 2 Feb 2023Updated: 18:49, 2 Feb 2023

Her player sponsors Target announced the tragic news on Thursday via Twitter.

They wrote: “We are sad to announce the passing of Momo Zhou (31) a loved member of the #TeamTarget family based in China.

“We would like to thank you all for her support over the years and our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.”

A statement from the Professional Darts Corporation then read: “The PDC is saddened to learn that China's former World Cup of Darts star Momo Zhou passed away on Wednesday, aged 31.

“Zhou made sporting history in June 2018, becoming the first woman to represent China in a televised PDC event at the World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt.

“Teaming up with Xiaochen Zong, Zhou became the second female player to feature at the World Cup of Darts, after Anastasia Dobromyslova represented Russia in the 2010 edition.

“The Chinese trailblazer won the hearts of the darting world on her big stage bow, cheekily celebrating a missed dart from their Swiss opponents during their first round tie at the Eissporthalle.

“More recently, she generated headlines with a moment of magic in last year's China Series A League, producing a 'perfect' ten-darter in victory over Jianjun Jia, despite suffering a bounce-out during the leg.
