Default Chinese scientists spot 'mysterious hut' on far side of the moon

Scientists and engineers working on the Chang'e 4 lunar mission are going to investigate the unusual object using the Yutu 2 (Jade Rabbit) rover.

A curious object has been spotted on the horizon on the far side of the moon by scientists working on China's lunar exploration mission.

Compared to a "mysterious hut" that "appeared out of thin air" by Our Space, a Chinese National Space Administration (CNSA) affiliated outreach channel, the object is going to be investigated by the Yutu 2 (Jade Rabbit) rover.

The object, which is most likely a boulder, is about 80 metres away from the rover's current location and Our Space said it would take two or three days to get there.

I assume it does not take the JR two days to travel 80m, but rather it has other priorities to complete?

A Chinese rover traversing the Von Kármán crater on the far side of the Moon (the portion that faces away from Earth) has stumbled upon a "mystery hut," according to Space.com, citing a report published by Our Space, a Chinese language science outreach channel affiliated with the China National Space Administration (CNSA).

Yutu 2 spotted the strange cube-shaped object about 262 feet away to the north. A zoomed-in image provides a closer view of the object.

The Chinese have called the cube-shaped object the "mystery hut." The rover will take 2-3 lunar days (2-3 Earth months) to arrive at the object.

CNSA has shown strong interest in investigating this mystery object. There's no definitive answer of what it could be. Some have speculated it's a boulder from a meteor impact.

Twitter users joked it could be anything from a Mcdonald's to a Moon Nazi base.

The Yutu-2 began exploring the far side of the Moon in 2019. It's part of China's fourth mission to the Moon and the second one that involves a rover. Very little is known about the far side of the Moon, and space observes might have to wait a few months until an answer is found.

China's Moon Rover Spots Cube-shaped 'Mystery Hut' on Lunar Farside

China’s Yutu 2 rover has spotted a mystery object on the horizon while working its way across Von Kármán crater on the far side of the moon.

Yutu 2 spotted a cube-shaped object on the horizon to the north and roughly 260 feet (80 meters) away in November during the mission's 36th lunar day, according to a Yutu 2 diary published by Our Space, a Chinese language science outreach channel affiliated with the China National Space Administration (CNSA).

Our Space referred to the object as a "mystery hut" (神秘小屋/shenmi xiaowu), but this a placeholder name rather than an accurate description.

Team scientists have expressed a strong interest in the object and Yutu 2 is now expected to spend the next 2-3 lunar days (2-3 Earth months) traversing lunar regolith and avoiding craters to get a closer look, so updates can be expected.

A likely explanation for the shape would be a large boulder which has been excavated by an impact event.

Two to three days is perhaps a misunderstanding. The articles I read in Chinese media give two to three “Lunar days”, meaning two to three months. The Yutu will spend the next 2-3 lunar days to investigate.

does anyone happen to know how communication with the rover is taking place on the backside.I am assuming it must be a satellite but have never came across any info on the launch or positioning of such.
    thanx...

I am sure, the on-board camera can do much, much better. Even a cheap cell phone gives better pictures.

Using some newly designed robotic optical equipment, Yutu 2 was able to get a close-up view.

The phrase I'm drawn to in the original article is the quoted "Appeared out of thin air" !
    Why say that ?
The given excuse - it possibly being a "boulder" still doesn't ring true - if it were would it appear out of thin air !
Is it still there ? If not how did it depart ? Suddenly or ascend ?

The articles translated phrasing is intriguing.

Just reading a very interesting book by Ingo Swann, Penetration, about his experiences viewing the dark side of the moon. For anyone interested I would highly recommend.
If you think the moon is dead with no water or atmosphere as we have been taught then this will alter your perception.
    Enjoy the ride!
