    Default Don't Look Up

Apparently this movie is being cancelled right now, people don't like when their are hit with exposing how ridiculous their entire sacred things are exposed for what they truly are. Or to be made fun of directly

    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11286314/

This applies to any government or country out there, for the most part

"Thank you for your courage and your service" is a line that made me laugh so hard that probably the people in the other room next to mine must think i'm doing drugs or something

It is being criticized a lot. I can only wonder why

I thought it was funny, despite people all over on the media review sites saying it's a 'comical disaster' and so on and so on

It looks like they used, or rendered the US Missouri ship for a scene where the movie shows the hypocritical levels governments can go. I bet that didn't play nice with a lot of people

That scene shows the ship in such a great way, have to say that it's so beautiful, i always thought about it that way, since i ever saw pictures the first time. It's beautiful and great, on its own. But here they used it as a sample of how governments use the past as a way to manipulate people, so i get that some people may be offended, it doesn't change the fact that most governments will do this exact same thing when in need of public support

In the end, is not a lie

On Rotten Tomatoes it says 55% liked the movie, on Google it says 84%, on IMDb 7.4/10 score

    Who knows...

    It's on Netflix

ETA: I understand perfectly how this can be, and actually is interpreted as. It's very anti-US in several ways. From my own point of view, most of it applies in the exact same way to my country and others i've been to and that i know very well. Other countries would not even allow this movie to be displayed at all, ever

Had great Xmas day at cousins, inside but no air-con for stinking hot day, so now, after peeling our arses off the chairs, might watch this tonight as I bookmarked it yesterday.

How interesting, I have just watched this and I laughed out loud with the 'Media' culture and the vapid political personalities, representations of petty power games e.t.c This is a very satirical film and worthy of an almost Monty Python level of ridicule and social mockery. I think many pundits and 'influencers' see themselves depicted far too acutely in this film - this movie surprised the heck out of me!
Definitely worth your time to watch if you are in the mood for Netflix. I understand why Cancel Culture has reacted negatively, much too close to the bone. The cast is sensational.

I just watched it last night, and I highly recommend it. It makes me hopeful that there are still good people in Hollywood that see through all the charades going on now, and depict them in a brilliantly funny way.

    Synchronicity happens...
Ben Davidson in the Earth Disaster documentary mentions celebrities like the Kardashians, billionaires in space, etc. in reference to the sad reality of how much press coverage idiotic stories about celebrity nonsense and political maneuvers ad nauseam get as compared to serious news about subjects like the Magnetic Pole Reversal.
And that is pretty much what "Don't Look Up" is all about.
I wonder if Ben saw that before making that last compilation of data...he obviously has a very good handle on "conspiracy theories" and among others, mentions the DUMBS that the elite have built to protect themselves from disaster.
Even in conspiracy circles, the Magnetic Pole Reversal data hasn't received nearly the attention it merits, although the more disasters occur along the way to the final Big One, the less it will be possible to ignore and deny.
And the more people will actually have to start getting ready...

(Not happy Xmas news at all, but certainly vital info. I've sent Bill a headsup about it and hopefully he will watch and share his views.)

"The Most Important Items Combined Into One Video
No more "Watch the dozens of videos"
No more "Go watch the series playlist"...
Now there is ONE catch-up video for the earth catastrophe cycle... share it wisely.

First, combine Chan Thomas, Charles Hapgood, Major White, August Dunning, Robert Felix, Robert Shoch, Albert Einstein, Randall Carlson and Douglas Vogt.
Then, combine mythology, religion, 4 fields of astrophysics, 8 fields of geophysics, archeology and paleontology.
Then add on the signs of the disaster unfolding now on earth, the other planets, the sun, nearby stars... and realize that the cycle timing is perfectly due again now.
    It's coming.
    Are you ready?"

(Not many are ready....but this may help take the edge off a bit temporarily, at least...Watch it here, now (unless it gets taken down): https://www.bitchute.com/video/k3CCRktwQFfs/

It's a star-studded (Streep, DeCaprio, Lawrence, Blanchett) black humor comedy about a (fictional) extinction event which may help to buffer news of what looks to be a real and coming global catastrophe.

We also watched this Christmas Eve and agree with Mike Gorman's take.

Interestingly, the choice was made by my MSNBC-programmed father-in-law, yet we all thought this movie was great.

They wrote this movie so well that we all found much truth in the absurdities presented. We laughed until it hurt.

As I had not heard of this movie prior to last night it was a great Christmas present and brought the families together.

Well, I had a different response entirely. I wanted to like this movie; I was all prepared to like this movie! So, not meaning to offend those who loved it...
I have not finished watching, I have to admit...
I will, but, I can only take it in small doses.
I find the script tries to hammer points over and over (the vacuous media not taking a hurtling comet seriously; the greedy elite, self serving politicians).
The acting and script also lacks subtlety. That is a big turn-off for me. Yeah, I get that it is satire, but the larger-than-life characters crowd each other out scene after scene.

I really don't believe this movie is "canceled".
Here is a list of the star-studded, cream-of-the-cream, Hollywood actors (most with academy awards or golden globes or some form of nomination). Plus pop icon, Ariana Grande:

    Mark Rylance

This movie will be seen by many, many, many...and the cast alone (Hollywood-vaccine-pushing-mostly liberal-Democrats) gives this movie validation.

    And here, from Wiki:

Despite the reviews, it was named one of the top 10 films of 2021 by the National Board of Review and American Film Institute, and received four nominations at the 79th Golden Globe Awards, including Best Picture – Musical or Comedy, and six at the 27th Critics' Choice Awards, including Best Picture.

Leo DiCaprio is a fine actor. I have enjoyed his movies in the past very much. He is also committed to raising awareness around climate change. This is why, I learned, this high-profile cast are drawn to the making of this movie.

Leo even describes Jennifer's character as being like Greta Thunberg.

I find it curious that famous actors are society's elite and carry such enormous influence.

Two or so days ago, all i could find about the movie were bad reviews, but not from regular 'street' people, mostly came from review sites and other higher level people in the media. IT even got a bad review on RT, which you would think they would jump to push it hard since it makes a mockery of west culture

Yet they also got hit in some way lol, and approved this
    https://www.rt.com/pop-culture/54436...ok-up-netflix/

Quote The ironic thing is that McKay’s film is commenting on the short attention span and scatterbrained nature of our current culture, but it fails as a film because it is scatterbrained and lacks the unflinching focus of Kubrick’s‘ Dr. Strangelove’. Ultimately, ‘Don’t Look Up’ tries to say too much about too many things and ends up saying nothing of any substance about anything.

Like so many films this year, ‘Don’t Look Up’ isn’t a great movie, or a funny movie or even an interesting movie, it is just a movie you sit through and when it’s over you move on and never once think about it again. Which is a shame, because it could have been, and should have been, so much better.
It was already decided that it was a total failure. Yet now it does seem the tied is turning

People on "the lower decks" seem to have a different opinion than "the experts" and that's one that matters the most. So it kind of have started to shift to "what a great movie" because no media channel wants to be the one left behind once they see the flow changing direction. No one wants to be that one with the disliked view, everyone wants to be 'in'

And i do believe that's what's happening right now

It will be turned into "ho ho ho, we are so cool that we laugh at ourselves and accept this as part of our magnificent show of democracy and personal strength" or something on those lines. In reality the first reactions were to take it down, that's what i saw in the first hours/day. It has been changing quickly once people started reacting nice and pushing it up in the charts, which also demonstrates perfectly just one of many points made on the movie lol

    I agree with your sentiments.
I had a hard time with it.
Not enough of Jennifer Lawrence's character.
Had they given her role more time and development you would have had a character to get behind, empathize with.
As it was too many unredeemable characters and no one to identify with.
    Also.
I couldn't help to notice how good Merrill streep and Cate Blanched looked which then of course leads to the inevitable question are these self absorbed ass holes on adrenochrome?
This of course reminds me that Hollywood and it's participants are blood thirsty pedophile satanists.
So, I'm probably not good company at the theater.

But focusing on the people and their acting, doesn't take away from the actual message? There are movies where there is no dialog, nothing much more than a few lines here and there, yet the message is the most important thing, that's why the dialog is minimal. In fact there are movies without any dialog at all that also convey a very important message, the one from people who are silenced and that no one knows their history ever, such as in this movie

It can't be embedded so you will have to go watch on the Youtube channel. There is no single line spoken through the entire movie, yet it tells the story of what happened to the Cossacks while the USSR tested their nuclear bombs out there in no-ones land, far away from the public view of the entire world, even the Soviet people. They were used to experiment the side effects and then left to rot and die. No one spoke for them, they were silenced, so no dialog needed to tell their story

Agree. Watched it last night. Really nails all the big issues and manages to be very well acted and funny.

Ditto, even though have to watch second half tonight. Stunned at how good this is in revealing the hypocrisy and totally get how "woke" culture wouldn't relate. I haven't looked into writers or production yet, but have to wonder if "the left" who never thought the U.S. could have Trump as president are now so gobsmacked that their candidate to replace him was Biden.

Thank you for that - just watched it and it was very good on many levels - it was a really well made film and the acting was excellent - I always like Leonardo DiCaprio's performances - but they were all good and there was genuinely funny comedy as well... (cheers to Malisa for the thread) -

I can't help wondering if this is one of those 'having to tell the masses what's going on' .... things - or not -
