I don't see any predictive aspect because Hollywood doom/apocalypse movies have been around since the 50s or so. Today it can be done even more 'realistic' due to CGI if you compare it to e.g. old Japanese Godzilla movies (which had their charme and were done well for that time). Also movie goers/viewers like the action and catastrophic and even apocalyptic movies, they are successful, so it is also about the money.

Interesting about this movie, which is a very good tragicomical satire indeed, that we here can 'deframe' it for us if we take away or turn around the more leftist/mainstream approch of the media shill critics or the 'stars' like DeCaprio and and their preaching agenda about supposed global warming doom or their anti-Trumpism. It is still a good satire about mass media stupidity and society brainwashing in general. Also politics. A bit of the "Wag The Dog" of our time now.

Enjoyable film, top notch cast and acting, like all disaster movies, not to be taken too seriously.
I liked a lot of the editing, particularly the scene where Meryl Streep says
"You cannot go around saying to people that there's a 100% chance that they're gonna die. You know, it's just nuts!" blissfully unaware of the absurdity of her statement,
which then cuts a particularly disdainful-looking portrait of President Andrew Jackson.

I thought I might enjoy it, but actually, I didn't all that much. Some of it was almost painful to sit through, but only because of the excellent script, direction and acting.
    Absolutely infuriating in its accuracy.

Sometimes I wonder why obviously wealthy and talented actors sign on to such ****e... are there not better scripts available? Oh yeah "Why Modern movies Suck!"

I believe (not do not know for sure) that it was because it was an intended allegory about 'global warming', and all the List A actors and actresses involved are what might be called 'left-leaning'.

Of course; but in my opinion, it just throws them deeper into the category of "dimwits."

Here's my view... and this might fit on the Why Modern Movies Suck thread as well:
      1. Convince me of your role
      2. Look good
      3. Otherwise: STFU!

I read somewhere that A-list actors agree to take parts in the garbage movies as part of their contract. This assures them the blockbuster, high paying gigs.

Side note: Actors crave the limelight. They auction themselves off to the highest bidder for notoriety, big things, shiny things and sparkly bling-bling.
    D'oh!… stated the obvious.

I briefly entertained the thought that some of the actors were actually trying to get a point across about the very things we are slamming them for...they can't all be cookie cutter idiots....no?

This is but a funny and entertaining good movie released in the right time for more people to consider such an event and so we´ll create it.... this is how we are constantly manipulated in order to create the rality the manipulators want.... pure mockering in our faces..... i did enjoy it though...

I saw this movie. I think Bill's assessment is correct (kind of an homage to climate change activists and mocking of the average person that is easily swayed by politically-motivated pseudoscientific misinformation.) Fortunately, I think it missed that mark, and the movie's take-away for most people will actually be to be more discerning of authorities and mass media messages. A seed of doubt.

Agreed, very painful but brilliantly acted satire. I wondered how or why all those famous actors such as Meryl Streep performed such a stripping bare of the worst aspects of 'government' on the planet in this movie. How did they get away with it? I mean it is really dark, full of insights about 'how things work', and painfully accurate. If they were playing to a deep-state agenda, or an alternative agenda, what is it? Is there a predictive aspect - the comet about to crash into the planet, or some sort of extinction level event being flagged?

When you got a contract with any corporation ( media, sport, music, movies, etc.) THEY own you !

THEY tell you what ,when, how, how match and then some...

"Government" (govern mind) latin :mente= mind; had let his mask fallen long time ago... they don't care any more... we are the ones who " must " were it now! ...

They are trying so hard to mock the mockery, it isn't funny.

I guess Bruce Willis didn't a good job of saving our collective bum-bum back in the days in "Armageddon", and just after "Deep Impact" with Morgan Freeman and the crew. The crazy pseudo-scientist, the assistant on the fringe, the army guy who says no then says yes, etc etc...same receipe, overcooked so many times before with no real originality.

Anyhow, no sorry this movie did zero for me and it is just me.
I have seen life on this planet, and that is exactly why I am looking elsewhere.

To me the message of the movie is: 1) accept your fate, and 2) don’t blame the-powers-that-be for your fate.

As, PhD candidate Kate Dibiasky, played by Jennifer Lawrence, said near the end of the movie, and I paraphrase: we are giving them too much credit. The truth is more simple. They are not that smart.

So, greed and incompetence, not greed and design, is the answer to it all. That may be right, .... but I don’t think so.

But it’s OK. We can all go back to sleep now.
I am very sorry that I wasted 2 hours watching this. I believe it is true that greed and incompetence run the world as currently managed by the powers that be. I think this movie is laughing at us, not with us. I feel like Meryl has just flipped me the bird. I think they're all high on adrenochrome, making fun of our mind-controlled, fear-driven slave existence, as they see it. The emperor is wearing no clothes, and the connoisseurs and critics are mincing words over the fine cut of the fabric.

i had to watch this film over four nights as it was too uncomfortable to watch for extended periods. There were some very funny moments I liked Meryl's "I and Jesus Christ bless you ,,," and the last scene with her was hilarious.
