Default Why don't most people change anything in their lives?

Why do you think most people do not change anything in their lives, although they are uncomfortable and totally dislike?

Scientists say that this is because of our brain, which gets used to a certain scenario and any changes are a burden for him, and the person turns out to be a weak link that is under the control.

Well Jack I'll give you my take.
    People don't change.
    Not for the most part.
What you see is what you get.
    Just my take.

    Hi JackWhite,

I personally think that what those scientist said is correct, it is hard for our brain to change patterns that it got used to. Especially as people age, it becomes harder and harder. It is far from impossible, of course, but I think it takes a lot of persistence, willpower and courage in a way, to change something about yourself that has in a way become a part of you. Those things are big parts of our personalities. I also think that those types of changes are much more easier to accomplish for people who practice some form of spiritual techniques, as opposed to people who are mainly material in their lives.

About what our friend DNA said, I believe that is also true. It is rather rare for people to really change, it happens, but not so often as it seems.

There is something that I believe Oprah has said, and it goes something like this: people never change, they only learn through life to put on different masks on themselves. When you get to know a person as a child, you will know him/her for life, they will always be the same, they will just wear different masks.

    Kind regards..

PS: I can't believe that I got to quote Oprah and say that she said something smart

Through necissity I had to change almost everything in my life starting
    at age 15 yrs.

I would not wish that on anyone unless they wanted to improve their
lives to be better in every way. But to me it was not a choice, it was
absolutely imperative that I be the best I could be,
Definitely not in any army but by striving relentlessly.

Finally, it paid off of course with some luck on my side and maybe
    more than luck.

Now at the end of my life I know that I would not have had it
    any other way.
Question Everything, always speak truth... Make the best of today, for there may not be a tomorrow!!! But, that's OK because tomorrow never comes, so we have nothing to worry about!!!

I like questions like this. And all the replies are truthful.

Open Minded Dude said it. I believe fear is most dominate. Its like why fix it if it ain't broken. Taking a chance to change could be a regrettable decision. Selling my house and moving could be a mistake. So we just go back to rationalizing, it ain't that bad.

I have become friends with Jeff Tolly, he took his life and returned to tell about it. Jeff did change.

The Michael Teachings changed my life.
SO many things in my life have been influenced by this.
    Seven deadly sins.
There are seven chief features, these features are living non-organic parasites as mentioned in the Carlos Castaneda books.
Every one has an attachment to one and the manifestation tends to show up in the human personality at about 3 years of age.
This is the reason monks go to caves and meditate in solitude.
This is what Lao Tzu alluded to.
Henry David Thourogh was attempting to tackle this attachment in his time at Walden Lake.
When we are capable of detaching from this entity we get a peek into enlightenment.
    But very difficult to sustain.
Everyone you know becomes an avatar for agent smith.
One has to control one's exposure and pursue a solitary existance for the most part.
This is if one whishes to reach this point of detachment and maintain it.

I sometimes wonder if this is not why Bill sits on top of a Mountain the way he does.

Thank you, this was well worth the time.

I don't know about everyone else but I have changed in so many ways, and have what I perceived at the time to be change forced on me against my will many times.

I have survived. But I never measured myself the way this society does and so I should see it as having thrived, which when measured by my own ruler is true.

I pine for a way of life I have no reason to even consider a possibility, but somehow I know for certain is not only possible but in some future time it will become inevitable. Maybe tomorrow.

For now my job is clear: keep accepting change and keep working for change that someday will lead to long fruitful happy lives for all.

The day not one life is wasted is the day I will stop changing and advocating for change.

It's not fun, but it also is, you know?

I have changed a lot during the past year. A year ago, I was a middle-class, bored pensioner, living a meaningless life in the suburbs. That's all I ever knew, life in the suburbs, a lovely house, and cars. Then, I moved with my Taiwanese husband to Taiwan. We no longer drive. We cycle, walk or take public transport. A year ago, I could not have imagined that I would be cycling to the beach before sunrise. Yes, I sometimes get lonely. I do not have any friends, but I have my husband, and we have so much fun together. I am not sure that we want to live in our house again when we return to my country. Looking back at my life, I see why people choose to become drifters, moving from one place to another. I no longer care for all that I have accumulated over the years. It has only become a burden to live like that.

This post and specifically the quoted statement really has proven to be true. It really makes a difference to understand this and the way you worded it is perfect. The more understanding one gets, the more determined the archonic forces seem to be determined to manipulate anyone and anything to draw us back into the fold of mindless drones seeking after whatever distraction they want as long as it is not a connection with source.

For the time being I lead almost the life of a hermit and I am fine with it. I am extremely grateful for the luxury of being able to do so.

Some years ago, working in a cube farm, a small one of about 36 people - the managers decided to move everyone around to new cubes. It was about 5o/5o men and women working in this department.

Upon this news, an absolute uprising of a revolt occurred. People were absolutely out of their minds over the change.

I didn't wait for IT to move my computer. As soon as my new desk was free, I cleaned it and moved in. I remember thinking if people cannot handle this minor, minor issue, What indeed could they handle?

I really was surprised at the reaction and the slew of complaints to the management. It is natural to resist change, but really?

Fear, lack of social support/networks, financial insecurity, dangerous surroundings.

Not everyone who stays in a difficult situation or maintains maladaptive behaviours is "lazy", ignorant, or a conformist. It's flippant, easy, and narrow-minded to assume so.

I suspect that some resistance to change is all about this.
Humans (and animals!) tend to seek comfort and reassurance by holding on to the familiar, whatever it is. In olden times (even a decade or two ago! ) the world of global change wasn't nearly so stressful. Now, it's full on, and accelerating all the time.
