Default What’s going on in Tigray? Genocide

Somebody brought this to my attention today.
I’m ashamed to say I knew nothing about it and wondered how many others would be equally shocked.

I don’t watch the news or read papers, but from what I’ve heard, there is pretty much a total media blackout on the genocide that’s taking place in Tigray over this last year…

This website has been produced to bring attention to what is happening to the Tigrayian people, which can be described as nothing short of intentional genocide.

    https://omnatigray.org/1yearoftigraygenocide-3/

    It states;

“It’s been one year of active genocide in Tigray.
The Ethiopian Government attempted to cover it up as a law and order mission.
But it soon became clear that this is a war against the people of Tigray.
As atrocities began and refugees fled, the Ethiopian Government and it’s allies began claiming Tigrayan refugees were armed militia.
They stated that Tigrayans burned down their own homes and crops and faked their own peoples massacres. This is the real story of the Tigray genocide.
On the 4th November 2020, under the guise of a law and order mission, PM Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia waged war on Tigray with the support of invading Eiritrean forces and Amhara militias.

At the ward inception, Tigray was subjected to a complete communications blackout, that cut the region off from internet, mobile phone and landline communications.
One year later and the region is still widely subjected to communications blackout.

PM Abiy Ahmed has leveraged the communication blackout to allow for the Ethiopian and Eritrean military forces and Amhara militia to carry out gross human rights violations without the fear of intervention or documentation.

So citizens from all walks of life—farmers, doctors, teachers, etc—came together to fight for survival and their rights to self determination as part of the Tigray Defense Forces (TDF).

Over 70,000 Tigrayan refugees, including pregnant woman and unaccompanied minors who lost their parents in the genocide, have undertaken perilous journeys to Sudan, carrying few belongings.

In the refugee camps, Tigrayans do not have a sufficient amount of food or medical supplies, and are experiencing significant trauma. Multiple fires have also burned down makeshift homes.

Another 2.2M+ Tigrayans are internally displaced

Atrocities continue in the dark as the Ethiopian government continues its genocidal campaign without international intervention.

Tigrayans have described seeing their friends, family members, and neighbors killed right in front of them.
Drones and weapons supplied by the UAE, Turkey, China, and Iran have also killed civilians and destroyed civilian infrastructure. In June 2021, a government airstrike on a market in Togoga, Tigray resulted in many casualties.

As minorities in Tigray, the Irob and Kunama peoples face extinction.
Over 800 Tigrayans were killed in the Axum Massacre, where Eritrean soldiers carried out house to house searches and shot civilians on the street during a 24 hour period over November 28-29, 2020.

Over 10,000 women and girls as young as 4, have been abducted, starved, beaten and gang-raped by Eritrean and Ethiopian soldiers, as well as Amhara militias.
The women that have been raped say that the things that they say to them when they were raping them is that they need to change their identity -- to either Amharize them or at least leave their Tigrinya status ... and that they've come there to cleanse them ... to cleanse the blood line," Dr. Tedros Tefera said.

As we're now 1 year into the genocide, many women and girls have given birth, now facing lack of medical care and sufficient nutrients. Some have dangerously conducted their own abortions.

Thousands of Tigrayans are being indiscriminately arrested across Ethiopia and are being subjected to state violence. Tigrayans are being unlawfully detained and forcibly disappeared.

Thousands of Tigrayans have been placed in concentration camps in western Tigray.
These concentration camps in Western Tigray have been executed, thrown into the Tekeze River, and have been found on the shores of Sudan.

Among those detained are 17,000+ Tigrayan Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) members who have been unlawfully held since November 2020. Members have been sentenced to life and death imprisonment.

On November 2, 2021, the Ethiopian government declared a state of emergency, which is resulting in arrests of thousands of Tigrayans.

Young men, young women, mothers, children, and the elderly have been arrested from their homes, in the streets, and in workplaces, and taken to overcrowded police stations and detention facilities.

A defining feature of the war has been the deliberate starvation of civilians.

From the start of the war, Ethiopian and Eritrean troops, along with Amhara militia, looted and burned Tigrayan harvests, killed or stole livestock, and prevented farmers from preparing their land for future harvests.

Today, 6.8M+ civilians in Tigray, 97% of the population, need emergency food aid.
900,000+ civilians in Tigray are experiencing famine.

But as thousands are dying daily, the Ethiopian government has intentionally blocked all humanitarian access into the region.
Since mid-October 2021, the Ethiopian government's renewed airstrikes in Tigray have led to significant casualties of Tigrayan civilians.

In an effort to cripple the economy, Almeda Textile Factory in Tigray was looted and destroyed in the early months of the war. Later in October 2021, the Ethiopian government's airstrikes then led to further damage.

Homes have also been destroyed by airstrikes, killing and injuring the civilians in them.
Historical Mosques and Churches have also been intentionally targeted and destroyed, killing civilians worshipping and protecting places of worship.

Schools have been destroyed and and the healthcare system has collapsed due to all the damage and looting of medical supplies. Critical services for life-threatening diseases have stopped”

The Tigray Genocide is still ongoing. Thousands are dying daily due to starvation. Thousands are being arrested. Many are being killed. We urgently ask global citizens to please:

    - Raise awareness
    #TigrayGenocide | #CallitAGenocide

    - Reach out to your elected officials asking them to declare what's happening in Tigray as a genocide.

Someone who used to live in Tigray, who still has family there has commented that her in-laws are being held in the camps. And they mention that they feel there is more to this happening. Also suggestions that it is where the Holy Grail is said to reside.

Reminds me of when I first heard about the East Timor situation in the early 1980's. I had to read about it in a book by John Pilger as it had never made more than a sub-paragraph on page 7 of some newspaper prior. It was all about corporate grab of resources too.
