Thank you - I use an Arturia Microfreak and a Behringer Neutron synth. Lately I have moved away from Windows to Linux and the Ardour DAW. I then usually smother it all with Reverb.

I haven't used a sampler for ages (an Akai) but have recently bought a Korg Volca sample which hasn't been put to good use yet. Let me know how it goes with the sp404

Survival is deep, I mean ...I felt it listening to it. Love the other two too! I muck about with a Yamaha Reface CS to get ambients and played around with deep synthesis on a Korg DS10 which is a Nintendo DS game emulating a couple of Korg MS-10s, written by Korg; it goes through the Nintendo pre-amp, and adds in the consoles native sound effect DSPs, which gives it an extra layer of 'game music'-ness to the sound. Ambients are more of a craft to me that I have to work at, rather than sitting down and plonking along with something which feels like easier work... I'm listening carefully to see if I can learn something from your magic!

Hi and thanks - I've seen that Korg DS10 package for Nintendo - looks interesting. My approach to ambient music is less is more and get a good reverb effect software or hardware.

Thanks! I have been practising both of those so I'll bring them together. I do overdubbed live takes, so instead of laptop DSP the delay/echo I'll use is an Akai Headrush, which I bought second hand and one of the buttons doesn't work, but the sound is infectious and I love the tap tempo. I'll bring it to be the star of the show Your advice is going to help me with an audiobook soundtrack. I play live over the audiobook reading making it up as I go along (edit: overdubbing in Audacity) more or less and mix it together later. I did one three years ago (6 mins long, soundcloud) but I need to refresh it because of editing, and more to the point it's too melodious, thinking about it now, it needs 3 x less lead and longer changes. I mean it's an ok as a theme tune but I was aiming for ambient background music. I love that Headrush, can't wait to have a play with it again

Hi Matthew, I gave Heros Theme a listen - it reminds me of the legendary 80s band Art of Noise (e.g. Moments In Love) - if you redo it post it here! Good stuff.

Hi Beautiful Avalonians, here's another piece in my ambient series which I've just completed. This actually uses the same music as "Unmadding" but done differently. I hope you like it.
