    Default Upcoming cost of home energy bills

    I know there's a thread on food shortages and in a similar way I wish to ask forum members what they believe will happen over the coming months/years with the ever increasing and extortionate charges from the their energy suppliers that supply their homes and businesses.

    Here in the U.K. The cost buying of gas, electric + alternative energy sources is rising exponentially:

    My own utility supplier has emailed (scared) me what it will cost me over the next year see below:

ID:	48571

    This projected price rise show my utility supplier wants an increase of nearly £1,8OO per year, with more increases to come.

    I'm sure that the ongoing situation in the Ukraine and potentially beyond will also affect energy prices plus I read today that diesel cost in the UK may increase to £2 per litre.

    Thinking about all the evil and somewhat criminal agendas that are being slowly implemented and put in place: Great Reset, NWO, Green Agenda and so on, the outlook for just eating and heating for the average family looks rather bleak.

    Both myself and my wife are not switching on the central heating on now, just wearing more clothing to keep our expenses down and keep warm.

    How is it outside of the UK?

    Are Government safety nets being put into place to assist the populace with the crises?

    Thanks for any comments and feedback/thoughts/tips.

    Apologies for more doom and gloom!

    Not just energy bills though is it, Mizo? There are also huge hikes forecast in petrol/diesel, fares, food, and National Insurance. That's without the effects of the current situation in Ukraine. Easy to predict major social unrest and rioting as people in my area of South London are already strapped. Perhaps we can come up with a less combative solution, like the Canadian Truckers.

    Apologies for any over reaction. I'm listening to the complete version of the Anglo Saxon Mission from the archives and it's really relevant right now . . .

    A July survey of more than 8,000 UK adults carried out by the housing charity Shelter and YouGov has revealed that close to 40% of UK households are just one paycheque from potential homelessness.

    The rise in the cost of living is getting very real. It is inevitable there is going to be victims of this.

    Being sharp and flexible can help reduce the effects of this. Like as Mizo says.

    Quote Not switching on the central heating on now, just wearing more clothing to keep our expenses down and keep warm.
    As far as food is concerned I always find there are bargains to be found if you are flexible and not stuck on certain foods.
    I think food banks are going to have to become even more prevalent in the UK.

    A friend in Italy told me last December that GPL gas (used by many homes there for heating) had gone up 14%, electricity by 29% and car fuel had rocketed too. She has a log burner, like many Italians, but that is often not sufficient to heat the whole house. Another couple I know there converted their boiler several years ago to a wood pellet burner boiler, that was a wise move as wood is plentiful there.

    I was paying £45 per month last summer for electricity, now £65 and I took a fixed tariff that ends next October. Being in a village we have heating oil, I paid £420 last May for the winter's supply, I got a quote for the same last month and it was £540. We got our chimney swept so we've cut down a lot on using the central heating with a lot of free wood, topping that up with wood from B&M and Lidl which is very reasonable.

    Having worked on a shop floor in the evenings for the past two years, I've taken advantage of a lot of end of day reductions; one good find was 4 bags of organic carrots for a total of 36p that I blanched and froze. I also buy reduced dented tins and use them straight away, I don't know why that puts people off as I'm suffering no ill effects. Also through working there I get a staff discount on my shopping.

    These price rises are going to be very damaging to many families, I feel so fortunate to have been raised by parents who lived through wartime rationing and their aversion to wastefulness had an impact on me. There are a lot of small ways that we can save money and a lot of small acts that alone save pennies will mount up to pounds saved. There are many online tips for that, such as batch cooking; if I'm making a curry, chilli or pasta sauce, I'll double or triple it and freeze the rest. It saves money and time later on as it only needs defrosting and heating up.

    Electric is up over 10 % since our new leader took office, gas is now doubled to $ 4.00 u.s. since our new leader took office , food ,I can't keep track anymore where that's going. We went from energy independent , to 4 years of peace, lowest unemployment rate for blacks and hispanics, food stamp dependency dropping, and lowest interest rates ever all that until our new leader got elected here in the states, and all this changed in 1 years time. And the worst part is nobody believes this guy can run anything due to his dementia. And just think we have 3 more years of this...............

    Something that is often overlooked is thoroughly insulating your homes/living spaces. This is often very much overlooked noting the time I spent in the UK and Ireland really surprised me how little was done in this area.

    As we move into a dramatically colder climate it is not enough to just realise that energy and fuel prices will continue to skyrocket, heating with wood will likely be supertaxed as will any "non green" options. Your pipes are not deep enough...they may freeze be they water, sewer or natural gas. Homes are much too drafty losing a significant amount of heat obviously increasing consumption and being islands your reliance on imported foods is already known increasing fuel costs increase delivery charges as do weather events.

    Personally, I'd move. Now.

    Or be prepared for a very long cold winter for the next few decades, we have survived this before but it is terribly unpleasant and challenging In the meanwhile insulate everything you can and prepare to hunker down. In the USA they want to ban wood burning and gas fuel oven, stoves and likely furnaces soon enough. No, coal will not be an option nor will wood for very long I expect.

    I hope that at least some of that is only a temporary "market scramble" while there is some confusion.

    Kind of the difference between owning paper contracts, and owning stuff. Russia has plenty of stuff, and the sanctions do not ultimately prevent transfer of Russian fuel supplies, although they cause some inconveniences.

    I have heard some whispers that the U. S. has turned to...get this...Venezuela, to try to replace Russian stuff. It may even wind up removing restrictions on Iran.

    However "inconveniences" result in a more acute situation for Europe, most of whose countries rely on 40-100% Russian stuff. By Putin saying, well, your problem is mainly these greedy and dishonest politicians, that again sounds like what is happening here. A lot of ideological posturing just causes damage to its own constituency. Maybe it will break up some companies and channel more assets into the hands of a few. Meanwhile, nobody else in the world will have this problem.

    Those of us who have asked for it to be caused for ourselves, are, probably, going to eat at least a bad year off of this. I remain optimistic that the ripple effect will work itself out in the long run, but, this energy scare, like most of the other policies, is going to backfire to some extent or another.

    People will try to find alternatives.
    we should start doing so instead of worrying. Shortage all sort is clearly coming. start with growing your own food. This may actually be a bleesing in disguise. people are being force to return to basics. Here in our place skilled workers are in short supply in the mountains where I am staying while in the city there is an over supply of skilled workers. People are returning to the lands. In my off grid place people started using animal waste as fertelizer since I came to their place. I'd like to think I have suceeded in convincing them.

    Here in Thailand not big changes in prices, where I live the electric company gave a large discount for those who asked, my landlord did and in return I was not paying my bill, it was until January, I got almost 6 months of free energy. Cooking gas still almost the same price, it is slightest high, gasoline I heard some folks talking it went up a bit (I am not driving anymore, I bought a mountain bike - best investment in years!!!), same for Diesel, Food price went up a little bit, but only the industrialized crap that I don't eat anyway. Pork meat went big time high, people were talking a lot about that, but chicken price and eggs went down in compensation, beef is not a thing here in this country, have many years without eating it, i almost forgot it exists.. Well that is how I am seeing things here, it didn't affected my life and friends yet..

    Just 2 days ago I was checking my solar system, I have one that I never used, only tested when I bought it, it is a tiny system it generates with full sun (from sunrise to sunset), around 3 kWh /day (my estimation is that I can get 1.7 - 2.0 kWh /day, it is not always sunny here), if I have to use it one day it will help for sure, but will be quite different since it provide much less than my average consumption (around 10 kWh /day), I will have to adapt no doubt.

    I recommend for anyone that can afford, to buy one now, prices are good, but I don't know if it will rise, probably it will. Get rid of petrol if you can, use alternative sources, to keep family warm in harsh winters, invest in a rocket stoven, you can even make one from an old barrel, build a cob oven for bake stuffs or even cook. There is many solutions, I know someone that built a small cob oven in a few hours, he made on the floor, truly survival skill, I was shocked with his abilities in playing with the mud.

    I don't know folks, i am just trying to be positive, there is many alternative solutions for problems like this, here on PA you can find great resources about it.

    Another thing to consider for those renting in the big cities, ask yourself if you are happy, making enough money, how is life after all? put it all in a scale and measure, the chances you need a change is great. I did that many years ago, I did not regret.

    Below may not be practical solutions for the long term but some of it fits here. The first is a repost from Bill’s "Fire Drills" thread.
    The most recent items I invested in had to do with when the electricity goes out from the New England winter storms. My apartment uses electric heat.

    I purchased a pop-up tent for two that automatically opens and it doesn’t require stakes. My plan is to set it up in the sunny side of my place when needed. I stocked up on organic candles (clean, non-toxic burn) and will use them for added warmth inside the smaller space. I have solar lanterns for a light source.

    I also purchased several Therm-a-Rest blankets and poncho (which are light weight and holds body heat), a sleeping bag that is good for 32F and a Nemo insulated sleeping mattress that's designed to hold in body heat rather than it being absorbed into the ground. The temp range is 15F-25F (-3 - -9C).

    It was a large investment, but in the long run it gives me peace of mind. Too, I use them during the day and at bed time along with the sleeping bag as a cover. I’m able to lower the thermostat day and night to save money on the ever rising cost of the heating/electric bill.

    Another area that I’m experimenting with since last April is the Breatharian Lifestyle. One reason for kick-starting this adventure was the fear of food availability and the tinkering with the food. A few others are: 1) curiosity 2) switch on the DNA where the body is self-existent and self-sustaining 3) create a cleaner vehicle to access Cosmic Intelligences and Source.

    A financial benefit is my grocery bill drop by 70%, i.e., $290 to $80 a month. I suspect it’ll be even lower if I continue with the experiment. My fears of the prohibitive cost of foods, empty shelves and starvation are greatly lessened. And when/if needed, the food I’ve stockpiled over the years is available for others.

    UPDATE: Breatharianism is a process; to stop eating may cause death. It's too much of a shock to the body system. First, one has to eliminate the toxins caused by rotting material, and the build up of hardened deposits, mucus, etc.

    We are investing in a 12kw solar battery system for the house. Not really the best idea in North East England but will give us a bit of independence and offsetting bills. Payback is marginal BUT if you live somewhere warm, surely that has to be wroth looking into if you have spare cash?

    Do you have a link for where to get those? Sounds interesting and any offsetting would be helpful.

    In my off grid place I am surviving on 50watts of solar panel. Just enough to charge my tablet, light and small radio. And to think that I use to be a big user of electricity having all kinds of electric power tools. My electric connection was delayed for some reason and I am rethinking if I should pursue it. I might be able to find alternatives. Not necessarilly alternative for electric power. But rather alternative way of living or doing things. My improvising skills is put to good use all the time and its exciting.

    Spain's electricity price at 19h:

    07/feb/2022 - 0'399€/kWh
    07/mar/2022 - 0'710€/kWh
    08/mar/2022 - 0'954€/kWh

    On the shortages thread I also posted how preposterous it is to already have electricity above 0'2€/kWh

    All this is genuine, I have screenshots of the webpage on my phone but idk how to post them.

    In my house we have connected one fridge, one freezer, 2 TVs, cooking stove, one pc. No heating, no washing machine. Monthly bill is 170€, I'm holding it.

    I am quoting myself here and maybe it is a little off-topic, but I came across this data from the Thai News Bureau, it is regarding food prices:

    ~~~~~~
    Ministry of Commerce Order to freeze the price of 18 categories of products. Prohibit it. Ready to take legal measures to take action. Concerned about the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, affecting exports and imports
    Mr. Jurin Laksanawisit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Addressing the tensions between Russia and Ukraine Ministry of Commerce closely monitored Accepting may affect the export-import that has to be slowed down a bit.
    on the part of the government All ministries try to help each other. In order to have the least impact on the price of the product, it must depend on the facts. If costs are significantly higher, where is the equilibrium point to be considered? It is the administrative function of the government and the Ministry of Commerce. If there is a trade in excess of profits, legal action must be taken. The ministry continues to regulate the prices of domestic goods in 18 major categories, not allowing price increases.
    18 product groups that are not allowed to raise prices include:
    1. Instant noodles 2. Fresh food category 3. Canned food 4. Bag of rice 5. Seasoning sauce 6. Vegetable oil 7. Soft drink 8. Milk and dairy products 9. Electrical appliances 10. Washing products 11. Fertilizers 12. Pesticides 13. Animal feed 14. Iron 15. Cement 16. Paper 17. Medicines, medical supplies and medical services 18.Services through department stores, retail-wholesale
    Find a local renewable energy company, don't buy from a salesman,.get their best electrical engineer to spec the system. Do some research. Basic system £5 or 6k. With a larger battery and many panels will double that quote..
    Haha $30 is pretty sane!
    I should explain - my house was built in the 1860s and still has all (lots!) of the original extremely thin glass windows (aesthetics!) which sort of defeats any insulation - so some of this is mea culpa. I did seal and fill window/door gaps which brought costs down a lot.
    I have a maybe irrational LoveHateLove relationship with the utility company, PG&E. They are very helpful with gas issues and "energy saving advice" but outages are way too frequent and their aging, lousy equipment is likely responsible for multiple wildfires here with losses of lives and property. Then again, some believe many of those may have been caused by directed energy beams and seeing the fires' aftermaths raises legitimate questions. If that's the case, then PG&E could be a victim of something out of their control. All extremely bizarre and there are other threads here that go down that extremely deep rabbit hole. 😬
    In any event, PG&E's losses from fire-related lawsuits plus California's inadequate power generation probably make up much of my already excessive energy cost. 🤷
