Default Where does one go after death? The Buddhist view from GDD-777, Master Sheng-Yen

Dear Friends, I'm posting this on behalf of Mashika, who asked me to kindly do so way back last August when she was offline and feeling unwell. I've only just seen the email she sent to me (OMG ). My apologies to everyone, and of course also to her. '

As an accompanying personal note, she wrote this, which I'll copy verbatim:

I just want to say that this may help some people focus a bit on something better than trying to figure out the best way out at the moment, and instead try to focus on the long term and what truly matters for them, in the long run. Because i kind of see that most people are being lead into thinking that this moment right now, is all the need to focus on, and they are so focused on it that they are forgetting to live meaningful lives at all, in the name of "opening the eyes"

I've often struggled with what happens after life. This is by far the best explanation I've seen.

    Interesting.

    How do you qualify that?

    Interesting.

    How do you qualify that?
NDEs, OBEs, past life (and between lives) regression, some vivid recalls from gifted children who somehow still have clear memories of life before their present life, some (but definitely not all) psychedelic experiences, and deep and extensive Buddhist practice extending over a couple of millennia.

Just because many people have amnesia, which is absolutely understandable and forgivable (and I do truly mean that ), it doesn't necessarily imply that what they can't remember having experienced doesn't exist.

I think we can very confidently guess at what happens after death. There is loads of anecdotal evidence to suggest we live on, much of which is well documented.

I use the word "guess" because although many NDE's share similar events, some are not just different but vastly different than the typical NDE we hear or read about. At this point we seem to have a clear but mostly general idea of what happens. The details can vary quite a bit though, as the man in the video details.

My personal opinion is that we agreed to come to earth and agreed to the spiritual amnesia and reincarnation. I don't think it's an A.I. trap or anything like that. I don't think the tunnel of light is alien sleight of hand. I think it's benevolent. I think that way because that's what the anecdotal evidence suggests, and also because I'm inclined to give God a little more credit than that.

    Interesting isn't it?

    Answer this first:

    Where are we now?

I have no idea. From the Buddhist view, we are usually more interested in "how experience works" rather than "what it is", from the perspective of consciousness rather than as if man was an external object.

I can appreciate the agnostic stance that would tell us "you can't possibly know anything about this", and, we can't, in the sense of measuring and deducing it by external objects. What is claimed, rather, is that there are techniques which essentially reproduce the conscious experience of dying while the body remains alive. Was one of the first things I posted here:

    The Art of Conscious Dying

It is just seen as a continuum, from what is experienced today, until it happens, and beyond...

Because I have successfully practiced the basics of this, I will say that it is either completely real, or, "more real" than conventional reality, which translates as Gnostic, although not necessarily in every possible use of that word. It does not fully represent Buddha, but, is a very important part of how to get there.

Words are so damn tricky in this arena but then again, I am no master.

If I were to guess, secretly, even masters would admit the 'struggle is real'.
('real' as defined by the world)

I will try and qualify my earlier statement as to how anyone who is alive, truly know what happens after death.
There is plenty of anecdotal evidence of people who have claimed to experience 'something' whilst still alive. but they are 'still alive' and not clinically dead.
Believe what you want to believe, believe what a 'spritual master' tells you - should you so desire - but until you are actually dead, well,
    who knows.....

Great question, according of some sources they say oh , you must go to the light , and that sound like a sensefull toughOn the other hand some investigators or persons embebed in all this claim that the light is a trap to keep you attach to the reincarnation wheel and be the food source for dark entity forever without even knowing. .
Is like a game of info /disinfo , and you are in the middle of this, BUT from my perspective if this is true , the worst case scenario for those negative entitys are a wake up soul capable to take desicions on his own after the great pass, and say, I AM WHO I AM AN I DECIDE WHERE TO GO OR NOT !

Sorry, no-one - NO-ONE - knows 'where one goes after death'.
For those of us who have had past life expressions, we are currently where one goes after death, that is, our previous deaths.

I think I agree with your line of thinking.

IMO it's too early to factually claim that anyone knows what happens after death. Ask 10 people and get 10 different answers. Who is right and who is wrong?

I have some beliefs myself but they aren't ironed out and I certainly haven't written in stone what happens after death. 10 years ago I had an idea, I have a different idea now, and I bet 10 years from now I'll have a different one.

I respect everyone's opinions but I don't believe any of them are 100% spot on.
Today is victory over yourself of yesterday. Tomorrow is your victory over lesser men.

Since the after death, between lifetimes experiences vary so much from individual to individual, I would think the best way for most people to answer the question of where we go after death would be through past life regression sessions, but finding a good person to do that could be challenging.
And the ability to successfully surrender to that process varies from individual to individual as well.

I personally tend to side with the following "narrative":

Quran [23 : 99] Until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "My Lord, send me back,
[23 : 100] that I might do righteousness in that which I left behind." No! It is only a word he is saying; and behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.

our unfulfilled earthly desires and lessons to learn, at point of 'death', determine what it is that may bring us back...vedic astrology can offer clues to what that might be, and our afterlife state
