New Year Address to the Nation

Vladimir Putin: Citizens of Russia, friends,

We are bidding farewell to 2023. Very soon it will become part of history and we will have to move forward, create the future.

We have worked very hard and accomplished a lot over the past year. We were proud of our common achievements and happy about our successes. And we were firm, protecting the national interests, our freedom and security, and our values which continue to provide us with an unshakeable foundation.

And the main thing which has united us is the destiny of the Motherland. There is a deep understanding of the utmost importance of the historic period which Russia is going through, those large-scale objectives which society is facing and the colossal responsibility for the Motherland which every one of us feels.

We are acutely and clearly aware of how much depends on us during this period, on our positive attitude, and our aspiration to support each other in word and deed.

Work for the collective good has united society. We are united in our thoughts, tasks and in combat, whether at work or on days off, displaying the main traits of the Russian people – solidarity, mercy and firmness.

I would like to address our military personnel – everyone who is on duty, who is on the front lines fighting for truth and justice. You are our heroes. Our hearts are with you. We are proud of you and we admire your courage.

I am well aware that now you feel the love of those nearest and dearest to you, the powerful, sincere support of millions of Russian citizens, the support of the entire people.

We have proved over and over again that we are able to tackle the most difficult tasks and we will never back down as there is no force that can divide us, make us forget the memory and the faith of our fathers, or stop our development.

    Friends,

At all times, the New Year celebrations have been associated with bright hopes and the sincerest wish to bring joy to loved ones.

The upcoming year of 2024 has been declared the Year of the Family in our country. And a truly big family is definitely a family where children grow up, where parents are given attention, and treated with warm-heartedness and care, and where everyone loves and respects each other.

Devotion to the Motherland is nurtured via such kinship of all generations, love of home.

I would like to convey my very best wishes for the new year to all Russian families. After all, the history of our huge, wonderful and beloved Motherland is shaped by the history of each family. We – the multinational people of Russia – decide and create its fate.

We are one country, one big family. We will ensure the steady development of the Motherland, the well-being of our citizens, and we will become even stronger.

We are together. And this is the most reliable guarantee of the future of Russia.

Happy New Year, friends! Happy 2024!

Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, family units disintegrate on a near daily basis; a process often assisted by the state if they object to suggested/recommended gender transition.

Why is Putin so popular in Russia?
There's MANY reasons. Mr Roeper (still the best source imv) has thus many answers.

    Author: Anti-Spiegel

Thomas Röper, born in 1971, has held board and supervisory board positions in financial services companies in Eastern Europe and Russia as an expert for Eastern Europe. Today he lives in his adopted home of St. Petersburg. He has lived in Russia for over 15 years and speaks Russian fluently. The focus of his media-critical work is the (media) image of Russia in Germany, criticism of Western media reporting in general and the topics of (geo-)politics and economics.

    From there (googletranslate):

Of course, regular readers of Anti-Spiegel know many of Putin's speeches and know that his words and deeds always match, which in itself is a good reason for Russians to trust their president. Many readers are also aware that Russia has experienced an incredible economic resurgence under Putin, which has just culminated in Russia overtaking Germany (despite or because of sanctions) as the fifth largest economy . But there are much more practical reasons for Putin's popularity.

Before I tell you about it, I would like to first – as usual with “Friday Thoughts” – warmly thank all readers who support my work with a donation.

    (...)

Very practical reasons for Putin's popularity

Unlike Western politicians who follow the wishes of corporations, Putin is actually committed to the prosperity of the people of Russia. This may sound pathetic, but it is true, as I want to show with a few examples. This video is from 2012 and many people will know it, but it shows what I mean.

The man Putin is seen folding in the video is Oleg Deripaska, a so-called Russian oligarch. Would it be conceivable that a Western head of government would behave like this towards a Western oligarch? Would a German chancellor denigrate the owners of BMW or other more or less family-owned German companies like this if they put their profit interests above the interests of the people in Germany?

There are many examples of such incidents involving Putin advocating for people's prosperity, although most are far more mundane. When the price of gasoline in Russia, where gasoline normally costs around 50 cents, rises to 60 percent, Putin calls the oil companies together and demands “normal” gasoline prices. When the corporations then refer to increased prices on the world market, Putin replies that as oil producers they make money even at 50 cents and that the task of Russian companies that benefit from the advantages in Russia is, first and foremost, the Russian market to supply at fair prices and only then to earn money from exports at world market prices.

Would something like this be possible in a western country?

When food prices rose worldwide as a result of the Corona measures, they also rose in Russia because Russian agricultural companies naturally wanted to make money by exporting at the increased world market prices. Putin then ordered the government to stop this and ensure low prices in Russia. The government then increased export tariffs for affected foods so that it was no longer so profitable for Russian producers to supply the world market and they could once again meet demand at home.

Would something like this be conceivable in Germany?

A few weeks ago, Western media also reported that poultry prices in Russia had skyrocketed, causing discontent in Russia and even being the subject of a question at Putin's annual press conference. Putin has ordered the government to solve the problem, which was also caused by high exports and low imports. The government then reduced import tariffs for poultry and the problem of increased prices quickly disappeared due to the larger supply.

There are many such examples. They show the fundamental difference between countries like Russia or China and the West. In the West, corporations have the power and tell governments what to do to keep the profits flowing. The stock market prices are an integral part of German news programs to suggest to people how important they supposedly are; in Russia they are almost never a topic in the news.

Putin expects companies that benefit from locational advantages in Russia such as cheap raw materials, tax breaks or subsidies to first and foremost ensure the well-being of the people in Russia and only then think about making money on the world markets. These methods are of course described as “dictatorial” in the West, where “business”, i.e. oligarchs, is in charge.

Where would we end up if a German government banned the oil companies from raising gasoline prices every year just in time for the holiday season? Or if someone were to condemn BionTech and Pfizer because they sell their so-called Covid vaccines to the EU at completely inflated prices? Changing that is not possible, it would be dictatorial.

The political system in Russia, like formally in the USA, is structured in such a way that the president gives the government instructions, which the government then has to implement. And Putin, of course, makes use of this and puts the needs of the people above the profit interests of the economy. This is one of the reasons for his continued popularity and increased prosperity in Russia.

One last example: When there was an environmental disaster in Siberia in 2020 because the company of another, so-called Russian oligarch in the West, skimped on the maintenance of fuel tanks, Putin folded the businessman in front of the cameras and the man meekly promised that everyone would Repair any damage at your own expense. That's what happened, you can read the interesting details here .

Read the linked article and ask yourself whether it would be conceivable in the West for a head of government to denounce the head of a Western corporation in this way for an environmental crime. Yes, in the West the company usually has to pay a fine in such a case, but it does not have to bear the full cost of the damage it causes, as shown, for example, by the oil disasters caused by Western companies.

Consider the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster, the worst environmental disaster of its kind in history. For 87 days, about 800 million liters of oil poured into the sea, which led to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, but the BP company only had to pay a fine of 4.5 billion dollars.

To date, only 14 billion have been spent on repairing the damage. But BP made an annual profit of 25 billion in 2022, so things weren't too painful for BP.

By the way, Transocean, the owner of the oil platform, paid out several million dollars in bonuses to a number of its executives in early 2011. This was in recognition of the fact that in 2010 the lowest number of accidents occurred since the company was founded. This was measured by the number and possible severity of accidents. Transocean's CEO, Steven L. Newman, received over $4 million in stock options and shares alone.

That would be unthinkable in Russia, but Russia is also an evil dictatorship...

Well — it could be said that Putin is now the real Leader of the Free World.
hello Bill, what should we think of Putin ❓, thank you for your feedback
I trust it is just translation from French makes it seem as if you are asking what we should think. Asking for opinion is one thing, being told what to think is humanity’s problem.

‘By their deeds you shall know them’. That’s sound advice. If you are watching the global chess game and analysing and debating you know who the players are and see some of their moves, it is a very complex game, 5d chess at least. There continue to be horrendous casualties on all sides, I pray we’re near the end game.

Regarding David mentioned in the thread, I believe he was taken down a dark hole from which he hasn’t emerged, he dropped some massive truth bombs, already prevalent ideas in the ‘new age’ communities of the late 80s, btw, he wasn’t the first to wake up, just one of the first to make a successful living from dropping truth about the totalitarian tiptoe. Do you ever wonder why he wasn’t taken out? He also shares a lot of other not so doggedly researched information that will disturb your bowels. How does he make you feel? Be discerning.

I discern that VP is the only apparent statesman in the world today, his battle to restore Russian territory and tear it away from the despicable dark forces that grabbed it and are swallowing us all, is now global. It’s not his responsibility to save the ‘west’, nor, imo, his desire to invade it. It’s up to us to clean our own rooms and create a better world. But maybe, with help from other courageous leaders, he can effect positive global change.

I’d like to share a video I that I ‘stumbled’ on today, I saw it was 55 mins and thought oh I haven’t got time right now, yet I was glued to it to the end. I’m not sure where there’s been discussion on this, or where to appropriately post it, although Putin is a pivotal figure in it, and I’d like to know what Avalonians think. AJ Roberts and Pascal Nawadi only recently came into my view. Did I just have a Q style shot of hopium or is there really reason to hope?

Putin wants new ‘elite’ in Russia 27 Jan, 2024

The president urged ministers to prioritize veterans returning from Ukraine as the basis of Russia’s new creme de la creme

Veterans returning from the war zone in Ukraine should become Russia’s new elite, President Vladimir Putin has argued. He also called on Russian ministers to provide decommissioned military personnel with all the support necessary to facilitate this process.

During a Q&A session and press conference last month, the Russian head of state revealed that some 617,000 service members had been deployed in Ukraine.

Addressing ministers and top officials of St Petersburg on Friday, President Putin said: “I met today with students, who put their studies on hold, many of them, [and] went to the warzone.”

He added that “it’s out of these people that we should be forming the country’s elite in the future.” The Russian head of state described returning troops as those who can be entrusted with the country’s development.

“Hence, they should be supported [and] assisted,” President Putin concluded.

He also contrasted veterans with “people who, pardon me, expose their genitals or show their bottom” – an apparent reference to a private party featuring an ‘almost naked’ dress code organized by prominent Russian blogger Anastasia Ivleeva in Moscow last month.

Photos and videos from the event ended up on the internet, scandalizing conservative activists and authorities alike.

A number of Russian celebrities, mostly pop artists, were spotted at the party.

    Text:
Vladimir Putin spoke at the closing ceremony of the 2nd Congress of the Russian movement of children and youth “Movement of the First” at VDNKh in Moscow and then sang the anthem of the Russian Federation!

Vladimir Putin: Good afternoon, dear friends.

I cordially greet all participants of the First Movement congress, all guests. This is a huge detachment, three thousand people came to Moscow. And in total there are already 4.7 – almost five million people in the “First Movement” in a short period of time. Seven million people took part in the events you organize and host. This is a huge army.

And this is what I would like to say: these are interesting, beautiful things, I will return to this now. But you just met at VDNH, at the Russia exhibition. We wanted to show here what our country has done over the past few years, over the past 10, 15, 20 years. And we have something to be proud of.

But here's what's interesting: what is presented here was once someone's dream. You know, I remember postcards from the beginning of the last century in the Far East, in Vladivostok. It shows the bridge that people dreamed about, they dreamed that it would one day exist. And this was at the very beginning of the last century. Today there is this bridge, we built it, and another one, even larger than the one that people dreamed of, and many more achievements that we could not even dream of at one time.

I am sure that if you feel just as confident, purposefully move towards your goal, fulfill your dream, we will succeed even more.

You have done a lot over the past year, I have already said: two million trees were planted for National Unity Day, three million letters were sent to our soldiers on the front line, people who do not spare themselves, do not spare themselves, defending the interests of the Motherland as part of a special military operation; About 400 thousand books were collected for their peers and sent to Donbass and Novorossiya. These are all completely concrete, absolutely tangible things. And of course, you will do much, much more in the future.

You know, both your mentors and your parents - they are always with you, they have always been and will always be with you. And I really want to say thanks to them, but it will be better - I just thought - if you and I do this right here, now and together. Shall we do it?

On the count of “three”: inhale – one, two, three!

    Audience: “Thank you!”

Vladimir Putin: I wish you good luck!
