UVALDE, Texas -- The death toll in the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, rose to 20, with at least 18 children, one teacher and the shooter's grandmother killed, authorities said.

Murphy has an F rating with the National Rifle Association[76] and a 100% rating with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.[77]

The Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting occurred in Newtown, Connecticut, within Murphy's House district near the end of his term. In the aftermath of the shooting, he became a leading voice in the movement to prevent gun violence, supporting numerous policies including universal background checks and ending the ban on gun violence research at the CDC.[78] Murphy supported the bipartisan Manchin-Toomey background checks proposal, which would have strengthened and expanded the existing background check system and established a National Commission on Mass Violence to study in-depth all the causes of mass violence.[79]

When the proposal failed to meet the 60 vote threshold for advancement, Murphy stated, "This is a day when the Republican filibuster stood in the way of 90% of Americans."[80]

In his first month in office, he criticized the National Rifle Association and Apple Inc. for a video game involving shooting with guns that was labeled appropriate for children as young as four.[81]

On June 24, 2015, Murphy said, "Since Sandy Hook there has been a school shooting, on average, every week"; The Washington Post described this statement as misleading.[82] On June 15–16, 2016, Murphy staged a filibuster regarding gun control following the Orlando nightclub shooting, the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history at the time. The filibuster entered the list of the top 10 longest filibusters in U.S. history.[83]

In the wake of the Orlando shooting, Murphy said "This phenomenon of near-constant mass shootings happens only in America – nowhere else" and "this epidemic will continue without end if Congress continues to sit on its hands and do nothing – again."[84]

After the 2017 Las Vegas shooting, Murphy reinforced his criticism of gun laws.[85]

Following the 2017 Sutherland Springs church shooting, Murphy and fellow U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) introduced the bipartisan Fix NICS Act to ensure criminal records are submitted to the federal background check system.[86]

Following the 2018 Stoneman Douglas High School shooting,[87] Murphy made an impassioned call for action in the Senate stating that "this happens nowhere else other than the United States of America, this epidemic of mass slaughter, this scourge of school shooting after school shooting. It only happens here not because of coincidence, not because of bad luck, but as a consequence of our inaction. We are responsible for a level of mass atrocity that happens in this country with zero parallel anywhere else. As a parent it scares me to death that this body doesn't take seriously the safety of my children, and it seems like a lot of parents in South Florida will be asking the same question today. We pray for families, for the victims. We hope for the best."[88]

In March 2018, Murphy was one of ten senators to sign a letter to Chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Lamar Alexander and ranking Democrat Patty Murray requesting they schedule a hearing on the causes and remedies of mass shootings in the wake of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.[89]

In September 2020, Murphy published a book on gun control, The Violence Inside Us: A Brief History of an Ongoing American Tragedy.[90]

The death count is the biggest red flag for me here. Just like in the Sandy Hook shooting. Of all the apparent oddities and inconsistencies of the Sandy Hook shooting the one oddity that stood out the most is the body count. The same thing happened in Texas, an 18 year old high school student with, obviously, no military training (and/or professional small firearms training), carrying an AR-15 managed to kill so many moving targets in such a short time, that is incredible, to say the least.

In my time in the military I have done my share of squad level live-fire exercises, let me tell you these are very difficult.

Well, in all fairness, firing a rifle is about as easy as driving a car. I don't know any stats of rifles in households in the US but it's got to be a big chunk and you can buy body armor on Amazon.

Jim, my youngest son (who is 19 years old now) went to elementary, middle and high school in TX. Three different cities.

By the time 2014 rolled around, ALL schools in our area had been retrofitted (and new schools designed with) buzz- in systems, where you could not walk into the school without being buzzed in by the front office. Parents would literally have to give their name, the name of their student, and the reason for their visit. You would sit outside and wait a couple minutes while the administration and staff verified that your student was a real student at the school.

Once inside, the only place accessible to any visitor was the front office. There was bulletproof glass and / or heavy locked doors leading to all other areas of the school, and this was at multiple schools throughout the years that my son attended. All schools were designed this way! It was done intentionally to stop mass shootings.

There is no way that in 2022 the shooter had access to a classroom.

But first this little tidbit. Some are saying this is not him, but early on this is who they said it was until he was swapped out for the guy with an AR15. I'll go with this, since the earliest news reports said he was trans and upset with the way he was treated.

It's possible to get one or two details wrong, but when the original story was a trans with a hand gun who was mad about being disenfranchised and got shot by concealed carry in the parking lot where he was stopped I am having a hard time with a total flip to not trans with AR15 that went into the school. Actually that's not the ABSOLUTE ORIGINAL story, the ORIGINAL was that it was stopped IN THE PARKING LOT, there was no one "running to the school". But at least this release said everyone was safe with only one person shot, omitting the fact that the one person shot was the original shooter. Taken out by concealed carry.
