    Default Do you drink?

    I wasn't sure which would be the most appropriate forum/sub-forum for this thread.
    (I also thought of the Human Condition).
    I guess this one should do.

    Here's another poll checking the pulse of Avaloners.
    This one should be interesting.

    Of course I am referring to alcoholic drinks.

    Drinking alchohol is a cultural scenario, so it is nothing to be worried about. This poll could be misleading.

    I don't see how this poll could be misleading?

    The only thing I thought of was where is the most appropriate place to post the poll.

    As I mentioned the two places that came to mind after reviewing all the possibilities were:
    'Health and Wellness' and 'The Human Condition'.

    I could have gone with either one. Then I saw a post in 'Health and Wellness' about Caffeine,
    so I thought, caffeine, alcohol, sure.

    I want to make something clear, since this is just the start of the poll...

    There are two main schools of thought;

    1. drinking alcohol is beneficial
    2. drinking alcohol, should be avoided, it's unhealthy

    I am making NO judgment about this whatsoever.
    I will let the chips fall where they may.

    First question... a private question?
    I don't see why it should be private.
    Don't forget, anyone can vote and they don't have to reveal how they voted.

    I am NOT looking for a correct representation, either of the general public or Avaloners.
    I am just looking for a general impression from Avaloners, that's all. Nothing scientific here.

    I did a poll before I believe about the people here who were vaxxed.
    To me drinking is no more personal than being vaxxed.

    Again, if someone feels it's too private, they simply don't have to vote.

    I take it the question is referencing the present?

    I have been drunk a lot, lol, ( in the day ), I was a Las Vegas casino cocktail waitress in my 20s. It was a period in life, like all periods in life are. I am approaching my 60s now. The past 20+ years there have not been many instances of alcohol consumption, in the few I can think of it is a shot or two of sake in some of my Asian soup broths, perhaps a glass of wine a year if I am spending Thanksgiving with friends or family. Now-a-days I have far better things to do than drink.

    Thanks for your thoughts Casey.
    Yes I was referring to the present.

    So if someone was a heavy/moderate drinker previously but doesn't drink at all now,
    they would choose 'Never'.

    Personally, I fall into the 'Rarely/special occasions' category.
    That's where I've always been.

    I'm one of those people who gets a hangover/headache from just a couple glasses of wine!

    I'm Irish. So,.....

    But I do not drink to the point of becoming drunk. I do not like the feeling and I do not like how I feel the next day...or two. I do enjoy a beer several times a week. My favorite beer is La Cumbra Elevated. It is a New Mexico brew. An IPA. It is the best beer I have ever enjoyed. Bar none.

    I will sip on wine from time-to-time. I do not care for hard liquor.

    Been off it since Feb 2015 - 22nd of Feb 2015 to be specific :-) After a looooong "engagement" with it. And while I can never say "Never again" i can and will say "I hope never again". I'm not a moralist about it tho. Each to their own.

    I quit drinking in 2007. My father told me the hangovers would get worse as you get older lasting days or weeks.

    Hmmm . I suppose the definition of "problem" might be quite different from person to person.

    ~~~~
    I don't drink daily, but nearly, and I don't like getting "drunk", but I do like my craft beers, making fruit wine, and I have some "hard" kombucha brewing right now. To one person that might be nothing, but to me I would like to cut down a little, so I suppose I could say it's a "problem" for me until I get to where I am more happy with my consumption, even though its not disrupting my life, which would more clearly be a "problem".
    I actually enjoy fermented foods and beverages of all types, and am fascinated by the interesting complexities of flavours that can be developed through the process. Needless to say I'm not a fan of much of "flavoured" drinks but prefer natural, even unfiltered brews - plus, drinking unfiltered, unpasteurized brews can help add probiotics to your gut. There's both potential harms and potential benefits, as there is with most consumables, I suppose.
    The poll is really a measure of how oneself considers their own drinking habit, as there is no objective quantification here. "Regularly" to one person might be a few drinks a week, to another, a few drinks a day. Who is to know? So in light of that I ask, what is the expected way the results are to be evaluated other than an insight to how each participant views their own drinking behaviour - whatever that may be?
    Every 6 months or so I'll drink a bottle of vodka for medicinal purposes. I intuitively feel it has a very cleansing effect on my gut health. After the hangover I always feel incredibly vibrant and healed. I don't get this feeling with other types of alcohol.
    That's interesting lotus 4 , I stopped drinking whiskey, was getting aggressive , mean and started having vertigo. Stopped a few years ago. I'm Irish and polish, polish side lived in hamtramack ,Michigan back in the day. Hamtramack was located in Detroit, 2 square miles , all polish , most bars in a concentrated area in the world in the 40s and 50s . 400 in 2 sq miles, lol. My great aunt nellie was the heaviest drinker in the family, pint of Kessler whiskey. And pack of camel cigarettes everyday for 45 years.she lived til she was 84. Me now, a few good pints of Guinness is fine with me. Hamtramack is no more polish and is a very diluted city. But the stories I could tell you. Over a pint that is. 🤗
