Default Should we be afraid of China...?

Is China investing in South America, Africa and rolling out an aggressive stance with Taiwan and are they speaheading a growth / destablising strategy to force the hand of US/European allies...?

Is it a distraction from Putin and Ukraine, is China backing Putin?

What IS China's next move and what are they really up to?

Will it all just blow over, or something much bigger?

From what I have seen in many of the videos about China that escape the CCP's censorship, that country is imploding.
The picture of strength that the CCP tries to project to the rest of the world is far from the reality.
There is a kind of toxic insanity at the core of China's heirarchy that wants to spread itself all over the world rather like Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

There are other types of insanity around the world that are attempting to spread, but the one from China is in a class of its own.

I think the failure of the 3 Gorges Dam will eventually deter that sickness finally from spreading to all corners of the planet.
It's a shame that the people of China will have to endure such a severe jump-start, but the seeds of it go all the way back to the tyranny of Mao and before, and what we humans sow, we most assuredly will reap.

    Hello Onawah. Missed you. (mwah)

I pay attention to geopolitical analysis by Peter Zeihan. He is strongly predicting the collapse of China within 10 years. 20 on the outside.

China wants to rule the world. It won't blow over until they run out of money to pay off US politicians like Joe Biden. Well, maybe Japan will kick their asses when they go after Taiwan, a former Japanese territory.

I agree with this statement, regarding the thread’s title question. There is a better way of wording that, for sure. Meanwhile, maybe, a fear thread might be interesting. I suspect that there are many different understandings, or feelings/effects.

We need to be wary, from the root old English/Saxon word 'Ware' Be-ware, conscious and observant of China, they seem to operate with great stealth and fiendish awareness of how Westerners think, the Chinese have a profoundly practical intelligence, it seems Australia has already fallen in many respects, and with the recent 'victory' of Labor (32% of the vote) China is very much working at the root level to undermine any remaining Anglo/Saxon authority in Australia.
USA is clearly being infiltrated and gradually brought to heel: criminal Dems are all on the Chinese pay roll. Yes, we should be very aware, to beware!

I can't do anything now except dealing well with my job because I need to take care of my sick mother.
Nothing is easy, but I need to experience my life every day.
Today, I watch the TV play of 海棠依旧 again. During that time, China was in the war and fought with 蒋介石.
Now, it seems peaceful mostly in China in the outside, but I can feel the war in my inner heart when working in the company or dealing with the relationships with others.
The crisis is not the outside war but inner soul.
Let's wait and see what will happen in the coming future.
I hope no war in China.

Jena, how come your seeds don’t flourish in your homeland? A follow-up question is, why do you seek to gift those ideas to peoples/cultures that don’t have that barrenness?

I mean this below linked vid as food for thought, and hope you become clear. Cheers.

Related, methinks. Chinese consulate staff in Manchester, England, today grabbed a man protesting the CCP on UK soil, dragged him in through the gates and laid a beating on him. Manchester police had to go in and rescue him.

It will be interesting to see how UK authorities react, and whether this story will draw attention from other western nations.

Some noise starting up about this, between various Brit officials.

“"The UK stands for freedom, the rule of law, and democracy," said the Labour MP. "The quashing of peaceful protests will never be tolerated on British soil."
Mr Khan and other MPs called for the consul-general to be declared a "persona non grata" - meaning a person who is unwelcome in the country.
Conservative MP Sir Iain Duncan Smith asked if the government would "be prepared to expel the consul-general and any of those that are found to have been part of that punishment beating and the vandalism?"
Some MPs called for the Foreign Office to go further, including Labour's Andrew Gwynne who said: "Had these incidents happened on the streets of Hong Kong, there would have been outrage from the British government, rightly so.
"They happened on the streets of Manchester and yet we have this situation where the minister is basically sending a memo to the Chinese embassy, an offer of a cup of tea and a chat with the ambassador."”

"In this special episode, we sat down with Casey Fleming, CEO of business warfare and counterintelligence company BlackOps Partners. He sheds light on a new report by the Institute for Security and Technology called "REWIRED: How Digital Technologies Shape Cognition and Democracy." How is this happening, who's behind it, and what can be done?

Fleming said: "Rewiring is actually rewiring the brain. And it's called psychological warfare—cognitive warfare is the new term—and it all falls underneath hybrid warfare. And that's really to control the minds and the souls of the audience or the population. So it's basically rewiring the brain, and it's accelerated and exacerbated by social media."

"You're in World War III today. It's called hybrid warfare. We're not aware of it, we don't understand it. ... But hybrid warfare, you're in it, you've been in it, and it's peaking, and it's maturing at this point. Eventually, it'll go to conventional warfare at some point, and we may be several years away from that, but understand that our enemy has declared us their enemy. And so therefore, they are our enemy. And we are in a hybrid war, and you need to understand that," he added.

As for what can be done, Fleming said: "We need Americans to realize that they're Americans. And whether they're left, right, or center, that they are Americans and they need to vote for people in office that are going to fix this. That's how we work. That's how we operate. We're a democracy, and the way we change is through voting. We need those people in state, federal, local government that are going to address this thing. It's called foreign influence—under the umbrella of foreign influence. Also, the big data piece of it is not necessarily foreign influence, although the data that they collect is being sold to nation states for foreign influence. Big tech needs to have laws. Big tech says, 'No, we'll regulate ourselves, we can do a better job.' Well, they certainly haven't. And, again, we as Americans cannot, should not, allow that our data be collected and our privacy be violated for other companies to exploit that, and to make money and keep us addicted on their platform. So the way that it would look is voting people into office that are going to fix that and uphold human rights and individual rights on privacy," he added."

    Each breath a gift...

Default Re: Should we be afraid of China...?

Here's the Chinese perspective on the recent meeting with Joe Biden shared via Arnaud Bertrand on X all of which seems pretty fair and reasonable, on balance:
In what's likely an extremely consequential meeting, this is what Xi told Biden according to the Chinese readout of their meeting (https://x.com/SpokespersonCHN/status...31557381849112). I think anyone who wishes to understand China's standpoint wrt to the US should read this:

    - There are 2 options for China and the U.S. going forward:

either 1) "enhance solidarity and cooperation and join hands to meet global challenges and promote global security and prosperity"

or 2) "cling to the zero-sum mentality, provoke rivalry and confrontation, and drive the world toward turmoil and division"

    - To highlight the extreme importance of this Xi stressed that "the two choices point to two different directions that will decide the future of humanity and Planet Earth."

    - He said that "China’s development is driven by its inherent logic and dynamics. China will not take the old path of colonization and plundering, or the wrong path of seeking hegemony with growing strength. It does not export its ideology, or engage in ideological confrontation with any country."

    - He sought to reassure the US that "China does not have a plan to surpass or unseat the U.S. Likewise, the U.S. should not scheme to suppress and contain China." The reason why is because "mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation are the lessons we learned from 50 years of China-U.S. relations as well as the conflicts between major countries in history. China and the U.S. should put in a lot of efforts to follow them."

    - For the purpose of achieving "solidarity and cooperation" instead of "rivalry and confrontation" he proposed the following 5 steps/principles:
    1) "Jointly developing a right perception. China is consistently committed to having a stable, healthy and sustainable relationship with the U.S." But "at the same time, China has interests that must be safeguarded, principles that must be upheld, and red lines that must not be crossed."

    2) "Jointly managing disagreements effectively. It is important that they appreciate each other’s principles and red lines, and refrain from flip-flopping, being provocative, and crossing the lines. China and the U.S. should have more communications, more dialogues and more consultations, and calmly handle their differences as well as accidents."

    3) "Jointly advancing mutually beneficial cooperation. It is important to fully utilize the restored and new mechanisms in foreign policy, economy, finance, commerce, agriculture and other fields, and carry out cooperation in such areas as counternarcotics, judicial and law enforcement affairs, AI, and science and technology."

    4) "Jointly shouldering responsibilities as major countries. China and the U.S. should lead by example, step up coordination and cooperation on international and regional issues, and provide more public goods for the world."

    5) "Jointly promoting people-to-people exchanges. The two sides should increase direct flights, advance tourism cooperation, expand subnational exchanges, strengthen educational cooperation, and encourage & support greater interactions & communication between their people."

Xi also expanded on China's "interests that must be safeguarded, principles that must be upheld, and red lines that must not be crossed":

    - He pointed out that "the Taiwan question remains the most important and most sensitive issue in China-U.S. relations. China takes seriously the positive statements made by the U.S. in the Bali meeting." He said that "the U.S. side should take real actions to honor its commitment of not supporting 'Taiwan independence', stop arming Taiwan, and support China’s peaceful reunification. China will realize reunification, and this is unstoppable."

    - He also said that "U.S. actions against China regarding export control, investment screening and unilateral sanctions seriously hurt China’s legitimate interests." He considers that "stifling China’s technological progress is nothing but a move to contain China’s high-quality development and deprive the Chinese people of their right to development."

    - He highlighted that despite U.S. efforts "China’s development and growth, driven by its own inherent logic, will not be stopped by external forces." He told Biden that "it is important that the U.S. side take China’s concerns seriously and adopt tangible steps to lift its unilateral sanctions so as to provide an equal, fair and nondiscriminatory environment for Chinese businesses."

That's about it. If one were to summarize, this was Xi trying to make Biden understand both countries and the world at large would be much better off if they cooperated instead of confronted each other, and making it clear that some red lines were being crossed (Taiwan and attempts to contain China’s development).

Knowing Biden and the neocons around him, it's sadly a fair bet this fell on deaf ears... Although I do believe that with Ukraine and Israel, they'll probably look to stabilize things for a while given they have their hands full with their existing wars.
“If a man does not keep pace with [fall into line with] his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.” - Thoreau
