Default Sound : Mantra : Learning the Maha Mrityunjaya

My voice is not my strong suit to say the least, but I have been working with this mantra on and off since I discovered it decades ago while in my 30s *please see important note at the close of this post for a single correction, it appears I decided to make a change but that change is incorrect. I have practiced the Mrityunjaya along with the seed sounds and the Gayatri mantra. The Mrityunjaya is a mantra of ( and prayer for ) liberation. If you would like to learn this mantra the tools are right here to begin diving in.

    THE MANTRA

    Om Trayambakam Yajaamahe
    Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam
    Oorvarukamiva Bandhanaan
    Mrityor-Mokshiyamaamrutaat

    * * * * * * * * *

    Meaning of the Mantra
The verse-by-verse meaning of this mantra is as follows: 🗣

Line 1 : Om Trayambakam Yajaamahe ~ Meaning : Bless me, Oh Divine Three-Eyed One, the unstoppable force of the Universe
Line 2 : Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam ~ Meaning : The One who is the aroma of the soul, and who nourishes the spirits of all beings
Line 3 : Oorvarukamiva Bandhanaan ~ Meaning : From the web of bondage that holds us captive like cucumbers entangled in their creepers
Line 4 : Mrityor-Mokshiyamaamrutaat ~ Meaning : Bless me, so I may achieve self-awareness and salvation from the fear of death and death itself. And achieve the immortality of spirit.

    ______________
Important note: ( my apologies ), at the end of the third stanza I am pronouncing a "t" and it should be "n". The exact pronunciation of the sounds is very important. Please follow the written words when working with this mantra. All else is correct in the video, just be sure to end the 3rd stanza with the sound "n". This video is for learning purposes, let's all learn correctly ( myself of course included! ). A very beautiful rendition of this mantra at 174hz can also be heard here.

This is Hein Braat, who is Dutch, chanting the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra for Healing in his own unique style.

    https://projectavalon.net/Maha_Mrity...Hein_Braat.mp3

To anyone reading this post and maybe skimming by, I'd invite you to take a moment to listen to just the first 90 seconds or so. Then decide if you want to hear the whole thing, maybe while doing other chores.

It repeats with variations, and it's extraordinarily powerful. But be warned: it may have quite an effect on you.

I can share a moving little story about this from a few years back. I'd used a short clip from it, maybe 45 seconds or so, as an intro to one of my videos. Soon after it was published, I got an email from a woman who was quite desperate to know what it was.

She told me that her autistic little boy, who could not speak, had been listening to that 45 seconds over and over and over again, would not stop, and somehow it was making him just incredibly happy.

    Casey,
great job you do with the chant. Did not know this mantra before. I only learn about their usage more recently, also for a reason. Synchronicity with this thread has it that I started my own Mantra chanting channel as a 'musical' side project on YT just a few days ago and posted my first mantra chant today (on 8/8). Not many views so far of course.

    Anyway. I love these 'coincidences'.
For the time being as a beginner I stick with the shorter mantras such as e.g. Om Mani Padme Hung or Ra Ma Da Sa or similar. Might post sth soon. Just in a phase where I'm testing the waters now.

    Bill,
wow! Yeah, this guy has such a beautiful and captivating voice, his style is mesmerizing indeed. Highly inspirational for me and my own future attempts.

    Just. wow. !!!!!

Yes this rendition will vibrate one from here to eternity to be sure. I am ( literally ) floating after only 90 seconds. It is good to listen to the Mantra, but equally if not more important I would share that using your own voice to move you has a magic all its own. It is a powerful mantra, as, truly, they all are. Sound + the voice, = the most powerful tool we have at our endless disposal. Combining sound, this mantra with my voice has in fact worked its way. It is at least partially responsible for showing me the doorway at the bottom of the breath and escorting me through into the larger reality. - witnessing myself from within myself, slowly stop breathing until no longer here in the Earth space; it has helped me make this shift in full conscious awareness, not once, not many, but multiple hundreds of times. This mantra along with many other beautiful disciplines. Exploring them deeply, inside and out. Practice, discipline, focus, is the way. Aim at it and the result will follow.

Thank you so much for sharing Hein Braat with everyone here, Bill.

I've a good feeling I will be connecting often.

OMD, thank you ( lol ), I am getting over the inner unpleasantries of sharing my musical voice.

I have a condition that makes me hear inside my head louder than outside of it. For this reason it often hurts to talk if I have to project, or speak any louder than quietly. My own Inner telepathy is advanced enough that I can speak in this way and it is what I most often use. Others call it mouna, silence, not speaking out loud, I find this funny. The same for brahmacarya ( celibacy ), nothing could be further from the truth. Inner life is so much wider than outer life. Anyway, I am rambling now, just to say, using my outer voice has been a challenge. It can bring head pain. So in formal practice I work with mantra as a way of inwardly connecting with the Inner sound and letting it sound through me. It generally takes roughly 5-10 minutes to fully "get there". But when I do, this is when the more beautiful tones, harmonics and frequencies begin coming through.

I would love to hear own work. Can you link me to your YT channels?

    Thanks!!

Here's the new mantra channel, the other one is a prog/art metal project and might be too 'unfitting' in a thread where you expect peaceful mantra chanting.

Of course I know there are already gazillions of nature relaxation vids as there are already as much mantra chant vids on YT, but anyway if you like also check out my 'other' vid there with the dog in the creek. At least, not many of the nature meditation water sound vids have a beautiful black dog at the beginning who is jumping into the river fetching a stick from the water.

    First pure vocal mantra video:

First water sound relaxation video (short version, there is also a longer 1-hour looped version on the channel):

Goodness, I somehow missed you posting this.. I was just meandering around for some reason, came in here and saw it ( gotta love intuitive flow, lol ). Thank you for posting a link to your channel, I just subbed. Is this your voice in the mantra video?? my goodness, the vibrations are really transformative. - those low tones are really something! I will certainly watch all the videos that get posted. I love the work others of us are doing. It is what I like to connect with the most. --Casey.
