Default Strange/stupid ways to hurt oneself

    Hi Friends,

Yesterday I was thinking about how I have done something stupid (but not intentional) that has left some permanent damage.

So I got the idea for this thread, where we can share our experiences, where we can learn something from other peoples mistakes, some things that we should not do, or should be careful about 😅

Now, this has happened to me. If someone told me that this happened to him, I would doubt that a little bit, it sounds strange/stupid:

I was having a cold, of course with sneezing and runny nose etc. Tomorrow morning I had some important business trip that I couldn't delay.

Anyway, I went to sleep and of course couldn't sleep, because of all the sneezing and blowing my nose constantly. It was somewhere around 3AM, and I was getting irritated because I can't sleep and yet I have to go on a long trip in the morning.

So, my nose was runny again, and I sit up to blow it, and I must have done that "too strong", and something "broke" in my right ear. It started ringing like crazy and the pain was sooo damn unbearable that I had tears in my eyes.

For the next 3 days, I was completely deaf in my right ear.

This happened in 2019. My hearing returned since than, but not completely. I can't properly hear high pitched noises, and I hear low pitched noises stronger than before. When I put my hand over my left ear, it feels like I'm inside a barrel or a cave or something 😅

    Please, share your experiences 😁

I made a 4 ft wrench out of steel once when I was younger, was then using it pulling as hard as I could towards me until it slipped and banged me in the forehead, I had blood squirting out in streams above my head so I tied a rag around my head and kept working. Notch one up for a Darwin award there.

And the famous action I did when I was 19 years old and living on my own I thought I would make chocolate pudding, so I put all the contents in a plastic bowl with a snap top lid, instead of mixing it by hand I thought it would be quicker to shake it up in the bowl with the snap lid , that is until the lid came flying off and my pudding went everywhere, the ceiling, cupboards, my hair, face, all over my clothes. Ah yes at 19 we know it all don't we.

Hi all. I've done a combination of the above over the years.

But it is the day to day stuff we do that is so long-term damaging.

Eating and drinking the wrong products, not exercising enough, messing around in situations when should have been careful lol

We are but simple humans 0.o

I know someone who blew a disc in their back by sneezing in bed while stretching. Also someone else blew a disc by bending to get groceries out of the car's trunk.

hahaa this sounds familiar to me! Five years ago I had a nasty cough that lasted all winter. The result of that cough was pain in the hip, which then lasted almost two months
Is every mind connected to form a peer to peer network that creates the illusion of a shared reality, making the appearance of material reality a simulation created through shared beliefs?

Lightbulb Re: Strange/stupid ways to hurt oneself

When I was 17 years old (in 1983) I was driving a moped 45 kmph in the drizzle rain and I saw ahead of my path a lady in the car talking to the driver assuming she told him there is a moped coming (me) and I knew I had "priority" ("voorrang" in Dutch 🇳🇱 ) meaning the car must stop and let me go straight forward ... he is not allowed to cut me off that would be violation of known traffic rules that is mandatory on every schools to learn about.

That assumption is why I did not use my breaks and went on driving full speed ... the car slowed down but still cut me off ... then in a split second I had to chose to have a head on collision ... or ... I let my moped fall to the side and slide towards it and my wheels would hit the car first and me scraping with my legs over the surface of the streets that slowed down a bit but still crashed in to the car. I had to go to the hospital and had multiple injuries.

The driver of the car admitted in court he was wrong and he payed me 2000 Dutch guilders (equivalent of about 4000 euros/dollars today) as I do not come from a rich family, my father was a truck-driver and I used that money to pay for Commodore 64 + 1541 Drive + accessories like: acoustic modem, 2 arcade joysticks, software etc. etc.
    • Now what do I have learned from all this ... that may be of help for anyone reading this?
Never assume you can force yourself to take "your rights" in traffic just because you know you are correct ... always be alert that there are people who can make mistakes in traffic ... and you could have prevented more harm to yourself by being more cautious about having assumptions knowing the "traffic rules" (which I had a A+ for in class).

Knowing the traffic laws is no guarantee you can use that to the fullest ... always remember there are others who may not respect those traffic laws with huge consequences.
    • This wisdom/insight also applies to life in general ... knowing your rights or knowing the rules is no guarantee others will act upon it too ... Even if you have a strong sense of justice "thinking you're so smart" and such ... it can also backfire!
    cheers,
    John 🦜🦋🌳

I've done lots of damage to myself by taking anti-biotics. I could blame the doctors for prescribing them to me but it was my choice to buy and consume them. I will also say that I might not be alive today if I hadn't taken anti-biotics in some instances, where the benefits clearly outweighed the problems they may have created. Five years ago I had a 103 degree (Fahrenheit) fever and went to an "urgent care" clinic. They suspected a UTI (urinary tract infection) and prescribed Cipro, a very powerful anti-biotic that became popular during the U.S.A. anthrax attacked of 2001. After taking it, tests showed I did not have a UTI, but the antibiotics helped manage whatever was infecting me and I continued to take it instead of going back to the doctor. Ten days of Cipro did not cure my infection, however, on the eleventh day I started taking ionic silver (similar to collodial) and this non toxic remedy worked in about 3 days to rid the infection. Meanwhile, the Cipro seems to have damaged the nerves in my feet, which I believe is "neuropathy" for which I have not found a cure.

my God .... if you really investigate what the worth (value) of money is in 1983 what you CAN buy with it in 1983 ... and study what exactly is it worth ... how much gas you can buy with it in 1983 or how much food you can buy in 1983 compared with 2022 the list of comparisons will shock you ... at the time the salaries were much much lower for everybody and people were richer than we are now ... "how is that possible" .... "weird" (am being sarcastic) ... because it is NOT "weird" ... it is called DEVALUATION OF MONEY ... I totally assumed all Project Avalon Members knows these facts!
    • in 1983 most families could run a whole family on 1 full time job ... in 2022 it is for most (near) impossible! ... In 1983 they got less money then but could take care a whole family because the money was worth al lot more than it is now!!

Mopeds..... as a teenager was welding an expansion pipe (performance exhaust) to tune my 50cc bike, the inside was a bit coked up & started to burn.

Despite the fact that I knew it worked by waves bouncing backwards & forwards inside it, I still blew down it to put the flames out..... only to have a huge pulse bounce back out straight at me & burn my eyebrows off.

my God .... if you really investigate what the worth of money is in 1983 what you CAN buy with it ... and study what exactly is it worth ... how much gas you can buy or how much food you can buy in 1983 compared with 2022 the list of comparisons will shock you ... at the time the salaries were much much lower for everybody ... and we even were richer that we are now ... "how is that possible" .... "weird" (am being sarcastic) ... because it is NOT "weird" ... it is called DEVALUATION OF MONEY
Exchange rate is exchange rate, 83-2002 is only 19 years.

Fl10,- in 1983 was worth FL15,19 in 2002. Let's say 50 % in 19years, at the time of the Euro in 2002 that would have been 3k (the 2k you got rightfully) in Florins (Guilders) and around 1350€ at the time of the introduction of the Euro.

Any comparison to the Guilder/Euro ratio after 2002 is basically non-existent because the Dutch Florin (Guilder) stopped existing in 2002.

So, yes, you are right it has gone up from 900 to 1350€, still Exo, not as spectacular as you might have hoped.

Do not assume you have full access of what the true value of money was of the Dutch 🇳🇱 Guilders ... as they lied to the masses when it changed to "Euros" ... this is later even admitted!

The Dutch Guilders was even better than the German 🇩🇪 Marks due to East & West Germany "Unification" after the Berlin Walls Fell had an enormous impact on the German Monetary System!

The Germans got more out of the Euro's "exchange" than The Dutch which was and still is a huge scandal ...
    • and who was/is responsible for this "Dutch Guilders exchange to Euros" scam? >>> Bilderberger Gerrit Zalm <<<
The year that the Euros were introduced in The Netherlands was the year that almost all prices sky rocketing due to the STUPID "1 on 1 idea" ... "to make it easier" ... in a short time almost all restaurants in The Netherlands were twice as expensive than Germany (still is!) before the "Euro introduction" we did not had this huge difference!

We have been scrwed over on so many levels and there is so much more horror to come as The Dutch has the highest Pension Funds (per citizen) on the whole planet! (over 1,4 Trillion!) ... and the European Monetary Funds and IMF looking for ways to use that money!

Yes, Exo, but that's not the discussion right now, we are discussing the error in logic here. You know, I figured you'd appreciate me pointing this out to you since you seem very accurate about stuff.

No need to get all those things involved, I was there. December 2001 a Snickers Bar was Fl1,- the day the Euro got introduced, 1€, disgusting.

I'll tell you something else Exo, the exchange rate for the Guilder right now? Still the same as in 2002. Dead currency.

I only focus on what can you buy with it in 1983 in comparison with 2022 .... NOT THE LIES OF "EXCHANGE SYSTEMS"

Oh dear… The signal to noise has changed since I last checked the thread. I get it. I’ve been there. It’s a challenge to let it go and get back to the original intent here.

I nearly cut my pinky finger off with an electric hedge trimmer. It cut about 1/4 the way through. While it's running always hold it with both hands.
