McCarthy took over as chair of the Investigations Subcommittee of the Committee on Government Operations. He hired 25-year-old attorney Roy Cohn as his chief counsel. Cohn in turn recruited David Schine, later rumored to be his lover, to become chief consultant.

Cohn had close contacts within the FBI. That was important for McCarthy, who reportedly worked hand-in-glove with J. Edgar Hoover's bureau between 1950 and 1953.

One of Hoover's agents, William Sullivan, later conceded, "We were the ones who made the McCarthy hearings possible. We fed McCarthy all the material he was using."

This information sharing was covert and quite illegal. Although bound by law to share information only with the executive branch, the bureau had also reportedly leaked background checks to Congress.

Hoover was said to have recommended Roy Cohn for the post with McCarthy because he was impressed by the young attorney's railroading of Communist Party members Ethel Rosenberg and Julius Rosenberg to the electric chair on charges of passing atomic secrets to the Soviet Union. Hoover himself has been rumored to have had a long-term affair with an assistant, Clyde Tolson

In most of the European world, now and historically, communist parties are connected with humanitarian ideals, equality at all levels and a general resistance to the capitalistic destruction of the planet. It's hard to find anything more moral in politics. Unfortunately in the USA, this view is completely distorted due to the cold war, turning Karl Marx and socialism into some kind of arch villain, instead of recognizing that he is widely accepted as the greater economist/sociologist who analyzed accurately and philosophically the capitalistic system.

Russia's Socialism in the 20th century was obviously a catastrophic parody. It was one more example of how the human ego misused knowledge for total domination, control and manipulation. Same as the million deaths throughout history in the name of religion or nationalism. It had nothing to do with the philosophical/scientist basis of the sociologists who developed the initial theories.

However, the problem with communist parties is that they are too anachronistic. Their views on how to change the world are outdated, they are resistant to any kind of evolution and they are obsessive with centuries old principles of class conflict, that are simply not applicable anymore. Also, due to the superficial view that everything depends on power and class struggle, they have totally reject anything spiritual or psychological in nature, making the whole ideology barren of any depth.

Ideals are not just fleeting thoughts. They are fueled by human emotions, a deep desire to do good. They are underpinned by spiritual archetypes. If a person or a society is conscious enough, not only they can bring food and abundance, but they can make this world better as a whole.

That said, we are not ready for them. At least, so far. The problem is not Communism or any other sociological theory. As always, it's the human ego.

Same applies with capitalism and our current western civilization. Rhetorically asking, is it better that we are under complete hypnosis while bankers, big pharma, sociopathic politicians rule countries, corrupted food industry poisons our physical body and the entertainment system poisons our mind? Does it feel better than communism because we have Starbucks and free porn? Is it normal to sell weapons around the world, bombing countries and kill millions in the name of good and God?

I'm not comparing here, because all political systems looks equally dangerous and problematic. I'm just pointing out the obvious, because we tend to lose ourselves in duality by imagining villains.

However, it is interesting that Russia's cultural offer to the planet is immense, even in the 20th century when Stalin wiped out millions of people with his dictatorship. I can't tell if it's better having Biden as a president while listening to violent rap songs or Putin while listening to Kissin playing Rachmaninoff.

Socialism was overwhelmingly killed in 1951 by a book of the same name. There is no longer a valid argument for Socialism. It should just die and stay dead.
