Russian Rapper Walkie Commits Suicide, protesting Russia's war effort

This stopped me today. I never heard of this person Walkie.
Just one of the many who will be forgotten in no time. The casualties of war, in this case on the margins of war.

“It seems to me that the partial mobilization will become full in a few days. I have two arms, two legs and an index finger to pull the trigger. They will give me some gun. I have no right to pull the trigger. I am not ready to take the responsibility to carry a weapon and kill people.”

“Forgive me my loved ones, but sometimes you have to die for your principles. And any way, my last….my last decision is exactly how I die. Whether it is (killed by people) who we attacked, and stay in history as someone who supported what’s happening, or expressing his final protest.”

Well, that's a tragedy. But sadly, a totally needless one, as he had it 100% all wrong.

He'd not been called up for mobilization, and was merely worried that there'd imminently be a full-scale draft (of civilians never having served before), which is an entirely different thing, highly unlikely to happen. Russia has millions of soldiers to call on before they'd ever be knocking on his door.

The article reports that he said

“It seems to me that the partial mobilization will become full in a few days."

And he was totally incorrect there. At least, he could have waited to find out. I'd never heard of him either, but I have to say it's reasonable to guess that there were other factors involved, maybe including his own mental or emotional state at the time.

So true Bill. One wonders why he did it now? Why not wait and see the actual reality? He could of done it anytime prior. The fear and resign I guess

Other issues I would guess were more prominent. A more logical--minded person would
wait and see what might happen. We are assuming he wanted to avoid being part of
the war effort and that may be so but I am going with the aforementioned.

A person, a life is really beyond our comprehension.

A futile anti-war statement in my view, it is better to make some positive gesture to work against the hatred and hostility rather than do yourself the ultimate injury. This is part of the histrionic and hysterical popular culture gestures that seem to be so prevalent these days. I can understand someone going to prison rather than involve themselves in war, but to kill yourself and bring such pain to your loved ones is an empty and futile act of narcissism - I agree that this man's state of mind was the true cause, I am sorry he died, it is all part of the madness that is rampant in our society.

Looks like somebody scared the poor kid.

Thousands of Russian men continue to flee from the mobilization. Many kilometers of lines of cars lined up at the borders, and neighboring countries are trying to cope with an incredible influx of refugees.
