    Reported by TASS:
Russian, Chinese businessmen to skip 2023 World Economic Forum in Davos

None of business representatives from Russia and China would be in attendance at the 2023 World Economic Forum in Davos, which kicks off on Monday, the American business news agency Bloomberg reported.

According to the agency, "There are roughly 116 billionaires registered to attend this year’s event, 40% more than a decade ago. In addition to the absent Russians, there are none from China this year…"

"India, a consistently big presence in Davos in prior years, has 13 billionaires attending, including coal magnate-turned-diversified industrialist Gautam Adani, whose wealth soared by $44 billion last year," the agency reported.

"Americans, as usual, form the largest group, with 33 billionaires set to attend, including corporate titans who skipped last year’s event…," Bloomberg reported adding that 18 European billionaires had been registered to attend the World Economic Forum.

The 2023 World Economic Forum is hosted by Switzerland’s Davos between January 16 and 20.

South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa cancels Davos trip

Quote South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has scrapped plans to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos because of the energy crisis affecting the country, his spokesman said on Sunday.

South Africa is experiencing record blackouts due to troubles at state-owned power utility Eskom over the past 12 months.

Ramaphosa was due to lead a government delegation to the WEF event in the Swiss Alps next week but will instead remain home to hold talks with Eskom and political leaders, said presidential spokesman Vincent Magwenya.

"Due to the ongoing energy crisis, President @CyrilRamaphosa has cancelled his working visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos," Magwenya wrote on Twitter.

"Currently the President is convening a meeting with leaders of political parties represented in parliament, NECCOM (National Energy Crisis Committee) and the Eskom board."

Scheduled blackouts have burdened South Africa for years, with Eskom failing to keep pace with demand and maintain its ageing coal power infrastructure.

But the outages have reached new extremes over the past 12 months, with the firm blaming sabotage and crime.

This week, it said it would implement blackouts of up to nearly 12 hours a day until further notice after a string of generators broke down.

The outages have cost the country hundreds of millions of dollars in lost output, disrupting commerce and industry and angering the population.

Is every mind connected to form a peer to peer network that creates the illusion of a shared reality, making the appearance of material reality a simulation created through shared beliefs?

...it is January 17th, an (apparently) significant day in the esoteric tradition underpinning much of what goes on behind the scenes

From The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail:
On January 17, 1917, Saunière, then in his sixty-fifth year, suffered a sudden stroke. The date of
January 17 is perhaps suspicious. The same date appears on the tombstone of the Marquise
d’Hautpoul de Blanchefort—the tombstone Saunière had eradicated. And January 17 is also the feast
day of Saint Sulpice. Saunière himself had made something of a cult of Saint Sulpice. It was at the
seminary of Saint Sulpice that he confided his parchments to the Abbé Bieil and Émile Hoffet. But
what makes Saunière’s stroke on January 17 most suspicious is the fact that five days before, on
January 12, his parishioners declared that he had seemed to be in enviable health for a man his age.
Yet on January 12, according to a receipt in our possession, Marie Denarnaud had ordered a coffin
    for her master
    ---------
Less than a month later another privately printed work was deposited in the
Bibliothèque Nationale. It was called Le Serpent rouge (The Red Serpent) and dated, symbolically
    and significantly enough, January 17
    ----------
On January 22, 1981, a short article appeared in the French press, which is worth quoting the greater part of:
A veritable secret society of 121 dignitaries, the Prieuré de Sion, founded by Godfroi de Bouillon in Jerusalem in 1099, has numbered among its Grand Masters Leonardo da Vinci, Victor Hugo and Jean Cocteau. This Order convened its Convent at Blois on 17 January 1981 (the previous Convent dating from 5 June 1956, in Paris)
    ----------
There are 243 Free Brothers, called Preux or, since the year 1681, Enfants de Saint Vincent, who participate neither in the vote nor in Convents, but to whom the Prieuré de Sion accords certain rights and privileges in conformity with the decree of January 17,
    1681
    -----------
According to his own account Flamel pored over the book with no greater success for twenty-one
years. At last, on a journey to Spain in 1382, he claimed to have met a converted Jew in Léon who
elucidated the text for him. On returning to Paris he applied what he had learned and is said to have
performed his first successful alchemical transmutation at noon on January 17—the date that recurs so
persistently in connection with Saunière and Rennes-le-Château.
    ---------

I don't lay any claim to be certain as to what that date's real significance is but its recurrence is interesting, and means something.

Perhaps this is why they have convened Davos around this time, and the purported absence of Messrs Schwab and Soros?

    Thinking aloud here....
“If a man does not keep pace with [fall into line with] his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.” - Thoreau

Cannot find a good source link but multiple reports that Klaus Schwab is there, and gave the opening address.

    Apart from that:

    Global political elite skipping Davos

US, Chinese and Russian leaders will not attend this year’s World Economic Forum in the Swiss Alps

Quote The annual World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in Davos, Switzerland has kicked off on Monday with a number of top-tier leaders absent.

US President Joe Biden is skipping this year’s gathering, along with French President Emmanuel Macron, and new British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is also passing on the event, along with the entire Russian business elite, which has been forced off the guest list by Ukraine-related sanctions.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Chinese businessmen will also miss the forum following the aftershocks of a recent spike in Covid-19 cases and troubles on the domestic stock market, which saw some $224 billion erased last year from the fortunes of China’s wealthiest people.

Of the Group of Seven (G7) leaders, only German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is set to attend Davos this year, along with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Despite the shrinking number of political leaders, this year’s attendance list is rich in top managers. Among 2,700 participants in the official WEF sessions, “we’re likely to surpass the old record from 2020 with 600 global CEOs – including 1,500 C-suite level overall,” according to WEF head of digital and marketing, George Schmitt.

According to Bloomberg, a total of 116 billionaires are attending the WEF this year, a 40% rise from ten years ago. Representatives from the US will form the largest group with 33 delegates. Some 18 more billionaires are coming from Europe, and 13 from India, including industrialist Gautam Adani, the world’s fourth-richest person, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Established in 1971, the World Economic Forum is a not-for-profit foundation and its annual gathering in Davos is the world’s biggest annual economics event. This year’s forum will run until January 20.

Elon Musk Throws Shade on the Most Powerful Club in the World
The billionaire entrepreneur declined an invitation from the World Economic Forum, the new edition of which has just opened.

The World Economic Forum in Davos is back to normal.

The annual meeting of the world's political and economic elites opened on January 16 in the ski resort of Davos in Switzerland.

After nearly a year of war in Ukraine and in the face of the climate emergency, this year's ambition is to find a way to "cooperate in a fragmented world" between war in Ukraine, climate change and globalization in existential crisis.

"The world today is at a critical inflection point," the World Economic Forum (WEF) said on its website. "The twin triggers of the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine rattled an already brittle global system. Economic growth in the world’s largest economies is stalling, while navigating headwinds from rising food and energy prices."

This year, the meeting "is held in the most complex geopolitical and geo-economic context for decades", underlined the president of the WEF, Borge Brende.

    'I Was Invited'

The Covid-19 pandemic, trade disputes between China and the United States, and the war in Ukraine have contributed in recent years to multiplying geopolitical fault lines and fueling more protectionist policies.

One of the main causes of this fragmentation is a lack of cooperation, and it results in short-term and selfish policies, regretted the founder of the WEF, Klaus Schwab.

To reflect and discuss all these issues, the WEF welcomes 52 heads of state and government and nearly 600 CEOs, including JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon and BlackRock CEO Larry Fink.

One major CEO will not be there, however. This is Elon Musk, the CEO of the manufacturer of electric vehicles Tesla (TSLA) - Get Free Report. Musk had revealed in December to have received an invitation but to have declined it.

"I was invited to WEF, but declined," the billionaire said on Dec. 24.

The billionaire who became the most influential boss in the world explained that his decision was due to the fact that he found Davos boring.

"My reason for declining the Davos invitation was not because I thought they were engaged in diabolical scheming, but because it sounded boring," the serial entrepreneur explained on December 31.

    WEF Gives 'Me the Willies'

Musk's refusal to take part in the Davos Forum comes at a time when this circle of political leaders, business executives, cultural trend-setters and international organization chiefs is facing increasingly violent criticism.

These critics challenge the power and influence of this gathering of elites, and in particular of its founder. Musk seems to share these criticisms. This is what he has just suggested in a message posted on Twitter on January 15, the day before the opening of the Forum.

If the Techno King, his title at Tesla, recognizes the need to have a space or a forum where there are exchanges and a dialogue between the private sector and the governments, he seems to think that the World Economic Forum is not the good frame or is just all perfect.

It all started with a message from author Michael Shellenberger, promoting one of his blog post about Klaus Schwab, the founder of the WEF.

"The World Economic Forum's Davos summit starts tomorrow. Its founder, Klaus Schwab, is one of the most influential men alive. He even participated in the G-20 summit of world leaders last November," Shellenberger tweeted. "Why is that? And who, exactly, is Klaus Schwab?"

Musk immediately jumped at the chance to comment and give his views on Davos.

"I guess there’s value to having a mixed government & commercial forum of some kind," the billionaire said. "WEF does kinda give me the willies though, but I’m sure everything is fine 👀."

Earlier, the tech mogul, who mocks all things ESG (environment, social and corporate governance), had already made a sarcastic comment after a tweet from Shellenberger about the WEF.

"WEF says its wealth is managed by an internal Investment Committee that seeks to incorporate 'environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria in its investment strategy to manage the foundation’s long-term strategic reserves," Shellenberger wrote.

"The S in ESG stands for Satanic," Musk commented.

The WEF says it is committed to improving the state of the world, encouraging forward-looking and sustained debate on how to tackle global issues.

But critics accuse the WEF elites, lodged in the luxurious hotels of Davos, of being completely disconnected from ordinary people, of having a polluting and outrageous way of life.

Therefore, they see the WEF as a forum of elites wanting to impose its globalist agenda rather than a possible antidote to many global problems. As a result, the Forum concentrates most of the frustrations against globalization.
