Default Countdown to Looking Glass (1984 film)

Dear Friends, I'd never before heard of this 1984 Canadian TV film. I watched it just now, and I have to say, there are one or two uncomfortably uncanny resemblances and parallels to the current standoff between NATO and Russia in Ukraine, and its potential very serious consequences.

The dramatization requires the timescale of the military escalation to be fast-forward accelerated so that it can be compacted into a 90 minute movie, but leaving that aside it's really very well done indeed. What I'd recommend, if you're willing to trust me on this, is NOT to go looking up the storyline to be informed of the spoilers, but just sit and watch it — maybe with quite a strong pot of coffee at hand.

Isn't it predictable that the rats that start the problems are the first to run and hide, convinced that somehow they're the one's worth saving?

I was at the 1st Peace Sunday at the Rose Bowl in 1982.
I was the only American there in the InterFaith Choir, set to sing with some of the survivors of Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
We met and practiced the day before, but didn't get to sing on Sunday because the program ran too long. Because it ran so long and we weren't allowed to sing, I began to project, from my life, the most powerful experience that I knew Peace to be. The interesting thing from that day was the small camera, 110 pictures I took that turned out to be a sea of deep purple with a white sky, not like the one picture we had someone take of me and my girlfriend, and the others of the Japanese singers with their floppy white fishing caps.

It was odd to me that the one speaker who talked too long and went into our time was the pseudo-sikh, the fakir, the tuggee/thief yogi, bhajan. By that time, though connected somehow to those powerful prayers directly from the real sikh writings, I could not stand being around the corruption the american sikhs had learned from that yogi, and all of the evil he brought with him..... so I was not wearing any head covering and had cut my beard down to a fu man-chu. It has been decades of standing alone with those prayers and living that path, fighting them, always heavily armed around them for self defense, but I would not have had it any other way, as others from a variety of paths have also shared their prayers with me.

It turned out that exactly 2 years later the Indian gov't attacked and killed over 53,000+(?) sikhs nationwide across India, under the payment and promise of MIG 29's(?) from the Soviet gov't, under Operation BlueStar, all in an effort to gain control of a majority of the Punjaab, the Breadbasket of India. Most importantly the attacks stopped the continuous prayers, called the Akand Paat, at The Golden Temple, in Unmritsaar, at which time I realized I had a lifetimes long connection to the prayers. Funny that I didn't make that connection until now between these two separate experiences, as I remember my life's arc in both cases seeming to be very different.

My connection to June 5, '84, in Southern California, at the same time June 6th in early morning Amritsar, was looking up at the sky that day and automatically sensing that something I had nightmares of that very day since the age of 3, was coming true. Growing up when I did, I thought that the orange color of the setting sun on the clouds was an atomic weapon going off. This day I dropped my tools there and rushed home to watch CNN, finding out that the Indian Gov't. had stopped the most powerful energetic connection that humans had to saving anything.

If only people knew the power they have to collectively shape the future of the entire world. I see that is always their choice, to step up to the precipice, to see all they hold dear being lost, until they do something about it. This site is one of those efforts at finding each personal, saving grace. I am greatfull.

I wonder if any of the scenes in this film were inspired from that Peace Sunday .....
