Emmanuel Todd (born May 16, 1951 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye) is a French political scientist, demographer, historian, sociologist and essayist. He is a graduate of the Institute of Political Studies in Paris and holds a doctorate in history from the University of Cambridge.As a research engineer at the National Institute for Demographic Studies (INED), his research has led him to consider that family systems have a decisive role in the history and constitution of religious and political ideologies.
