Default Understanding Bill Ryan! - A personal view

This is a very cheeky thread to post on Project Avalon; but it is a subject that has interested me, and about which I have thought, intermittently - but for a span of some forty-seven years.

I knew Bill for one intense month of an Outward Bound course in Scotland, when I was aged 17 and Bill was 22 or 23; and then I did not encounter him again until - via email and Project Avalon - 2014.

A pretty slender acquaintance on the basis of which to try and 'understand' him, it might reasonably be said? Indeed. But Bill did have a formative effect on my life; despite that it took a very different path from his, and ended in a different (spiritual) place. So I have spent a fair bit of time in trying to understand him - and feel that I have got somewhere in these efforts.

I regard Bill as 'one of the good guys' as well as 'on the right side' in the spiritual war of this world; so I hope he may find these comments amusing, maybe interesting; and if others contribute their sincere evaluations - perhaps he would even find it helpful and encouraging?

Bear in mind that this is one person's very partial view, and any briefly communicated statement is bound to add further incompleteness and distortion.

    **

In a nutshell; I see Bill as one of very few modern people whose world-view is about as close as it could be to that of the 'animism' of paleolithic nomadic hunter-gatherers. (The link is to an essay in which I tried to explain what I mean by animism - other people currently term this 'shamanism'.)

I spent several years intensely studying this now-lost way-of-being; through reading accounts of first-contacts with the last remnants of such people who existed until around a century ago - some of whom retained some features of this lifestyle until more recently.

I also looked at convergent evidence from anthropology, archaeology, putatively-evolved aspects of modern psychology, human evolution, and the analogous social structures of chimpanzees and baboons. A list of academic references can be found in this research paper.

In another essay, I tried to describe how our ancestral hunter-gatherers may have seen the world, and the meanings they found in life - very different from typical modern Man.

Back to Bill... I believe Bill is one of very few modern people who are not significantly 'alienated' from this world: from other people, nature and the world of spirits and 'gods'.

I think Bill has that 'immersive' - and mostly unconscious - participation in the world, that most people have been losing since the invention and the agricultural way of life, and especially since the industrial revolution. Alienation, cut-offness, is now the modern condition - as has become common knowledge since the Existentialists (e.g. Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, William James, Heidegger, Camus, Sartre, Colin Wilson etc.) introduced it to public discourse in the 1950s.

Part of this is that (I think) Bill regards this world as essentially nurturing - as the hunter-gatherers regarded their environment - much as a loving parent who will provide what we need, and what is good for us. He trusts this world.

I think Bill regards our actual world as sufficient for all spiritual needs. I think (at root) his ideas of reincarnation resemble those of H-Gs; in that people (and indeed animals) are reborn in a recurrent fashion, from a finite realm of souls; with transformation as the principle; rather than (more common variants of reincarnation) either decline-from an earlier ideal state, or progression-towards a higher-state.

Life varies by a kind of infinite permutation; so that there is no exact repetition - yet the 'ingredients' of life are experienced eternal. Hence Bill's view of life as ultimately 'play', and that such open-endedly various play provides all that we need.

Bill, I believe, has a gut-sense that the totality of life-energies are neither increased, nor diminished; and that therefore the principle of of change is more like transformation than like entropy or continual-creation. I infer his view would be that when we die and are reborn, we are 'transformed', and the world around us undergoes transformation... In sum, it is a 'process' of transformation of 'life energies' which is characteristic of this life and world.

To put it differently; Bill, like the hunter-gatherers, is 'at home in this world' - in a way very different from most of the rest of us.

    **

Now, I would not push this all the way; clearly Bill also has a high level of self-awareness, and can therefore explain himself by comparisons and contrasts; whereas (it seems) hunter-gatherers usually took-for-granted their condition, their place in the world, and their destiny.

After all, the ancestral H-Gs lived and knew of a world in which 'humanity' constituted only - perhaps - a couple of thousand people; and they lived their lives in 'clans' of maybe only 1-200. Bill inhabits, and takes into account, a world of billions.

Yet I think that this understanding of Bill is one that captures what I find to be special, in fact unique in my experience, about his nature - and therefore his task.

OK - that's it for now! I do hope that Bill will take this impertinent comment in the positive spirit it is offered; and perhaps others may be able to add their different perspectives in the same spirit?

I can appreciate the Bill is a shaman take.
I would also personally advocate that Bill is a Warrior.
I don't use that term often.
    Bill is fearless.
He has really put himself out there through the years.
Bill has also dedicated his life to learning and teaching.
Bill's dedication in this matter is priest like or monk like, forgoing kids, family and the like.
This dedication is admirable and rare.
Instead dedicating his time, energy and love to the pursuit of truth.
I certainly hold Bill's opinion in high regard.
Thank you Bill for all you have given us while asking so very little in return.

A person is very complex and we can only know what we have noticed or perceived through our own personal lenses and intuition, so it can only ever scrape the surface of a deep being living a life in this moment of time. There perhaps is so much more that we may never know or are even capable of knowing as we are right now.

No one is expected to be all knowing or can never make a mistake, but kind enough to share what they personally feel and let others add to that fuller perspective as we all are unique and can add to the fuller understanding of the whole.

I feel Bill has an inner drive to explore the nature of an expanded view of how and why we are here, and of course if you know time is not linear, it is all really hard to explain. He has a good soul and is navigating and sharing his journey along the way, and I like to think we all are really, that is what makes Project Avalon and our journey much more rewarding, to let people explore and share.

In my view, we are always more than all thoughts we had, have and going to have combined ... we are even more than all thoughts others had, have and going to have about "who you're supposed to be".

We are all multidimensional spiritual beings, having a limited human experiences (not "just humans" having sometimes a spiritual experience).

I've grown a bit cranky (I'm halfway through my 70s now), and I've locked horns with Bill a couple of times over the years about certain issues, but on the whole I am very grateful that he has kept this forum going and kept it a civil and even friendly place for the most part, where the truth about what's really going on in the world can be found.
That's become a more and more rare thing these days, and we should probably all say a prayer that it will keep on keeping on, :happydog: in view of the growing censorship that is taking place.
It's probably difficult to gauge how much of a difference Avalon has made in the world, but I'll bet it's more than most of us realize.
And Bill has certainly made his mark in a positive way, in spite of it all, both behind the scenes and right out on the front line.
    Each breath a gift...

What little I personally know/remember of Bill Ryan, he's persistent and certainly doesn't take any BS. He's also very kind. That he's successfully kept The Project Avalon up and running all these years is amazing. This forum really stands out. It is the lighthouse in the storm.

I first met Bill in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho over dinner at a private residence. As I recall, the first words out of my mouth were a mixture of amazement and incredulousness, so I asked "Are you THE Bill Ryan?" followed by "Where's your hat?"

I had never seen a picture of Bill without his familiar hat. I was trying to become a member of the Avalon forum previous to this meeting (unsuccessfully because I was using my "Truman Cash" pen name). So Bill got me on the forum. We had great conversations and has been a friend ever since.

It has always been a pleasure to know someone of such integrity, discernment, intelligence and kindness. His extensive knowledge of the ET contact phenomenon along with this forum has helped me to sort out my own experiences as well.

I do thank everyone for their very kind comments!

I've been thinking about Bruce's characterisation of myself as a Hunter-Gatherer. That was quite a novel concept for me to consider.

But there are several ways in which the model fits quite well. I do feel I'm resilient, resourceful, nomadic, active, adaptable, and highly attuned to nature; I don't want or need many possessions (and those I have are almost all things for practical use); I co-operate readily with people in small groups, but tend to shy away from large groups and dislike many aspects of 'organised' society (notably hierarchies, authorities and cities ); and as an interesting theoretical attribute of our Hunter-Gatherer ancestors that's been seriously suggested but which is pretty much unprovable, they may well have been very psychic, a 'sixth-sense' aspect of their attunement to their environment.

Living indigenous tribes show many signs of exactly that. Indian authorities were very concerned about the welfare of the indigenous inhabitants of the Andaman Islands, following the huge Banda Aceh earthquake and tsunami in December 2004 that killed a quarter of a million people and devastated every coastline in the area.

When they investigated (with helicopters, from a safe distance, as the islanders don't like to be disturbed in any way), they discovered that the entire population had retreated to safe mountaintops even before the earthquake happened, because they had sensed it was imminent. Not a single islander was harmed.

    Imagine ChatGPT4 A.I. (or 5) using this:

... as the basis to make a most accurate "summary" who Bill Ryan is .... you still see only a fraction!

In my view, we are always more than all thoughts we had, have and going to have combined ... we are even more than all thoughts others had, have and going to have about "who you're supposed to be".

We are all multidimensional spiritual beings, having a limited human experiences (not "just humans" having sometimes a spiritual experience).

    • The true essence of spirituality can never be captured in labels & summaries ... nor (dogmatic) beliefs of any kind.

    • Flashback 2021:
There is no other Forum like Project Avalon Forum ... even with ±7,9 Billion people living on Earth.

Bill, if we were to be compared with ANY (corporate or globalist) think tank "advising" governments to "justify" and push new draconian policies, I dare to say, we in general are far more accurate (closer to the unfiltered truth) than all of them combined ... Why? ... Because we know their true agenda, >>> mainstream media rarely dare to discuss.

When military "think tanks" want to be prepared for all kinds of future scenarios, it is most of the time heavily polluted with corrupt globalists agendas ... When we do it, we serve NO hidden agendas whatsoever ... Just using common sense & connecting the dots of countless suppressed news sources that are vindicated so many times last 4 decades.

Sure we (can) make mistakes ... nobody is 100% flawless ... it is all about being transparent, living in (self)-honesty and having an authentic passion for the truth!

@Bill Ryan your integrity & (self)-honesty is what made all of this possible ... and what a team of good diverse people we have here, all with unique talents coming from all over the world making this Forum stand out every day, day in day out 24/7 ... ... And we never give up sharing different insights that counters the mainstream media pushed globalists narratives for over a decade now.

    cheers,

I acknowledge, and agree with all of the comments from people regarding Bill, naturally I do not know Bill from any close up encounters but I gained a solid respect for his intensely rational, cool headed approach to analyzing exotic concepts and claims, I sense we share a certain British-ness in many regards, Bill was always there to steady down a certain female colleague when she went 'too far' at times! Always a pleasure, Bill and I truly appreciate all that you do and offer here on this project.
