Quote Posted by Johan (Keyholder) (here)
Not only the Brits were riding (on horseback) on the left. It was the same in pretty much every country, till about the late 1700's.

When carriages started to replace horseback riding, the coachman kept the whip in his left hand and steered the horse(s) with his right hand (most were indeed righthanded, then too). Defense by the sword became less important. It was Napoleon who made driving on the right compulsory, except in the countries that he did not conquer (like Great Britain).

Another Napolean-related reason (to drive on the right side of the road): the French aristocracy drove on the left (before Napoleon). Napoleon did away with that, "the people" (and everybody therefore) had to drive on the right. So, it was to establish "equality". Driving on the right side was driving on the side of "the people".
We owe a lot to old Boney! Does this fact get mentioned in Ridley Scott's Napoleon?

You need to be careful of these Joe Rogan shorts. There's a ton of them floating around on Youtube right now. Most of them are not clips from his shows, it's not him speaking. It's all AI-generated and totally fake. The coloured squares on toothpaste tubes have no connection to ingredients or contents.

Thanks Mark. It's outrageous people would be making videos like this; would imagine Joe Rogan has something to say about it too . . .

The distance between Russia and the USA is shorter than you think

At its narrowest point, the Bering Strait is about 85 kilometres (53 miles) wide.

    Pendulum Wave

    What is the pendulum wave?
A pendulum wave is an elementary physics demonstration and kinetic art comprising a number of uncoupled simple pendulums with monotonically increasing lengths. As the pendulums oscillate, they appear to produce travelling and standing waves, beating, and random motion.

and while on the subject of poisonous plants, Alnwick Castle, home of The Percys and the location of Harry Potter's Hogwarts, has a large collection of lethal plants in The Poison Garden, even Ricin, the world's deadliest plant.
