Default 9000 Year Old 'Stonehenge' structure found under Lake Michigan (2020) and other stone circles of interest

If found to be true, the wannabe petroglyph could be as much as 10,000 years old – coincident with the post-Ice Age presence of both humans and mastodons in the upper midwest. - Archaeology World Team, November 30, 2020
    Article source: Archaeology World

    -------
Dating back to 2020 this, and yet more evidence of human pre-history being subjected to apocalyptic flooding.

I'm uncertain whether reference has been made to this on the forum, but this is of interest to those of us fascinated with our ancestral achievements, and knowledge.

Absolutely captivating sonar scan photography here too:

The stones of discovered underwater structure are organised circle and believe to be at least 10,000 years old.

    -----

9,000-Year-Old Stonehenge-Like Structure Found Under Lake Michigan

Archaeologists found something much more fascinating than they got credit for when searching under the waters of Lake Michigan for shipwrecks: they uncovered a rock with a prehistoric carving of a mastodon, as well as a collection of stones arranged in a Stonehenge-like manner.

    Gazing into the water
In modern archaeology, the use of remote sensing techniques is common: scientists regularly survey lakes and soil for hidden objects.

Archaeologists uncovered sunken boats and cars and even a Civil War-era pier at a depth of around 40 feet into Lake Michigan’s Grand Traverse Bay, using sonar techniques to search for shipwrecks, but among all these, they found this prehistoric surprise, which a trained eye can guess by looking at the sonar scans photos in this article.

“When you see it in the water, you’re tempted to say this is absolutely real,” said Mark Holley, a professor of underwater archaeology at Northwestern Michigan University College who made the discovery, during a news conference with photos of the boulder on display in 2007. “But that’s what we need the experts to come in and verify.

Fascinating Tintin. I just tried googling a map of how the world could have looked before the last pole shift - to get some idea of perspective - but although there were a few of how it might look after the next one there was nothing.

It would be interesting to plot all these places (cities) which are currently under water to see the connection. We might even find evidence of a previous pole shift behind that one. I expect ley lines change along with the shift . . . ? Apols for showing my ignorance; am just thinking aloud.

    No apology necessary

A similar idea crossed my mind too. Perhaps we can (somehow) try and imagine/realise this? The Piri Reis map was a helpful indicator in that it showed an Antarctica without ice although clearly a map created post deluge. But, yes, absolutely. That might well be a noble and fascinating mission to undertake.

And perhaps somebody, somewhere, has ancient maps secreted already? Several of the many petroglyphs accounted for and documented may provide some help although their interpretation is often challenging and tend to depict the skies most often, and not the Earth (< me too, thinking aloud )

I am not convinced by the video. And, it sounds like hype.

Are there any other unaffiliated reports that substantiate these claims? Were the Great Lakes ever even dried out that much below their present levels, since being carved by the great ice sheets?

    Needs more data.

No such ancient maps exist. All we have to go on are visualizations based on science and geology.

The strange thing here is, the Great Lakes region pre-Younger Dryas wasn't land, as in above water - it was under a multi-kilometre sheet of ice!

The great lakes were carved out as the ice retreated. Which means it was never dry land, being either under ice or under water during this period. I can't see anyone building anything in this region during this time frame.

Unless I'm missing something obvious, 10,000 old years seems off to me - way off. It's either far, far older (back into the Pleistocene), or this structure is a natural formation.

Without investigating further, I'd assume that whatever this is in quite shallow water (maybe 50-60 feet or so), or else it'd not be easily accessible to scuba divers. It seems quite possible that that could easily have been above water level a few thousand years ago.

Off-topic here (but I've been looking for a place to post this! ), high in the Ecuador Andes where I often hike — this is nearly 13,000 ft up — there's a stone circle, exactly like the ones found in Britain and Northern France.

It might be a natural geological feature, but I highly doubt it. What it's doing there I can hardly imagine. It's in a truly remote, hard-to-reach place and has never been reported in any archeological research papers.

The first photo shows the general location, in a wild high valley in the middle of nowhere. (It's in the center of the picture in the distance.) The second shows the detail.

    Hello Bill interesting post.

Do you have any details: compass readings, alignments, stone in middle of circle or not etc, that large stone on its side is positioned where? and GPS, would all help much.

Did you ever get gifted a drone Bill, we need an aerial shot of that.

    :Back to topic:

The 10,000 yr date is probably pulled out of someone's (the writer's?) imagination which is conditioned by their historical beliefs. It would be ludicrous to suggest a date from the cursory examination so far.

With the melting of kilometers of ice there could be considerable isostatic rebound from the earth, depending on geological make-up in the vicinity. I wouldn't be too quick to write this one off.

Yes, it is. It's in a superb position for all kinds of reasons.

My friend here has a drone, but he's out of the country until June. When he returns I'll suggest an expedition to go film it from the air.
