    • Jack Sacco Reveals the Science of the Resurrection:

A powerful & fascinating exploration of Jack Sacco's study of the Shroud of Turin and what it reveals about the science of the resurrection from forensic and quantum physics perspectives.

The Shroud of Turin is a centuries old linen cloth, about 14 feet long by 3½ feet wide, that bears the image of a crucified man. The twill is a 3-over-1 herringbone weave. It is bloodstained and shows faint front and back images of a man who, by the visible wounds, appears to have been crucified. He seems to be resting in burial repose. A man that millions believe to be Jesus of Nazareth. The ongoing debate is trying to determine if it really is the cloth that wrapped his crucified body, or is it simply a medieval forgery, a hoax perpetrated by some clever artist? Modern science has completed hundreds of thousands of hours of detailed study and intense research on the Shroud. It is, in fact, the single most studied artifact in human history, and we know more about it today than we ever have before.
    • There are also some Avalonian critics who created this forum thread
    • Claims are made, but can they stand up to real scrutiny?

Yes I see the 2012 forum on the Shroud of Turin, they are long outdated and a freedom of investigation forced the carbon dating to be released in 2017 - the consensus is that the carbon dating is invalid. You probably know this. Only one person was crucified with a crown of thorns, "King of the Jews".

A story about the shroud popped up on Dailymail today. New blood analysis suggests the biblical story is true. This is either a distraction story or designed by the Vatican bean counters to bolster parishioners.

    Shroud of Turin

    dailymail
Quote The agonizing crucifixion of Jesus from the Bible details how he endured severe beatings, punctures and nails driven into his hands and feet.

Christians believe those wounds were miraculously imprinted on the burial shroud after Jesus was resurrected from the dead, scorched into the fibers by a burst of energy when he came back to life.

Now, a new analysis of the Shroud of Turin - also known as the Holy Shroud - claims to have uncovered evidence that the crucifixion may be historically accurate.

An engineer from the University of Padua in Italy used modern technology to reanalyze samples taken from the cloth in the 1970s, finding tiny blood particles showing signs of organ failure, trauma, disease and radiation.

Materials that were typical in ancient Jerusalem were also said to be discovered, suggesting that the shroud may have originated in the region and not in Europe where many skeptics think it was created as a medieval forgery.

The alternate story as taken from the Vatican Library by Sir Lawrence Gardner is that Jesus did suffer scourging by the Roman soldiers, but was spared crucifiction, as another convicted man agreed to take his place.
There is lots of fascinating material from the late Sir Lawrence Gardner here: http://www.karenlyster.com/body_bookish.html
...And it adds up quite well.
I think the crucifiction story was the invention of priests who used it to keep the people in fear and under control.
It was convenient for them that there were similar legends taken from other, older traditions such as that known as the "Old Religion".

The late Sir Lawrence Gardner, who had access to the Vatican library, said the same, that another prisoner took his place, and that Jesus was not crucified, but he did endure the scourging.
He left the Holy Land and went on to teach in other parts of the region.
Mary Magdalene and Jesus parted as it was not thought to be safe for her to stay with him.
She sailed to France with Jesus's brother James, and she lived in a cave and also taught anonymously for some years..

    >"Jesus survived the crucifiction"

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned but, according to the Farsight Institute (which, by the way, I don't fully trust), a drunken patsy was crucified in place of Jesus.

There's another alternative story [for the true life of Jesus, his family and those who surrounded him] if you want to take a look. One of the most astonishing books I ever read in my life (and I'm in the many thousands by now). Depends if you're in to deep spiritual/metaphysical/mystery school material as to whether or not it resonates with you, but it's one of those books you want to climb into, that you never want to end..

So too is this quite remarkable translation, if accurate, and I really think it may well be. I have to keep rereading this; it's truly astonishing.

Via the Nag Hammadi scrolls, The Apocryphon: The Secret Book of John. Although not specific to the shroud (so, actually 'Off topic' really here in that regard) it's deeply motivating
