Default 10 Dystopian Movies that might Predict the Future

This is a short 10-minute video with the title "10 Dystopian Movies that Predict the Future". (I added "might" into the thread title. )

It's actually 10 movies and a TV series. The narrator summarizes each one (quite well, in limited time), and there are some clips added in. I'm not that well equipped to comment personally, as some of these I'd never heard of, and others I've not seen. I would say however, that 'Her' in my opinion really is particularly good.

I can suggest other movies not included in this list, and I'd be sure others could too. Wherever the conversation goes, I thought it might all be interesting to discuss. (Philip K Dick's Sci-Fi stories adapted into films — Blade Runner, Minority Report, Total Recall, and more — don't really count here as the concepts depicted thankfully show no signs yet of becoming real.

    The movies listed are:
    1. Toys
    2. The Running Man
    3. Her
    4. Ready Player One
    5. New Order
    6. Songbird
    7. Children of Men
    8. Y: The Last Man (TV series)
    9. Demolition Man
    10. Elysium
    11. Dredd

Contagion (2011) comes to mind and pretty much nailed it about the coming Covid outbreak.

"The wreck of the Titan" (novel) appeared to predict the sinking of the Titanic, bout 14 yrs before the Titanic actually sank

"White Noise" (movie) came out a yr or so before the actual Ohio chemical train wreck.

This was clearly predictive programming for a specifically planned future event. I heard they even used extras from East Palestine. They mock us.

Over the decades, how many "predictive" dystopian movies/TV series -- especially out of Hollywood -- are intentional predictive programming (psyops) meant to soften up the population courtesy of the globalists?

Attack of the body snatchers. I like the 50's version. When someone listens to the mainstream message and becomes indoctrinated just to echo it like an NPC, then it's like they're one of them now. More cosmic horror than science fiction but it has sci. fi. aspects. Not a literal prediction, or even a prediction, but it hits the mark imo.

You were thinking it too. The 50's version had an impact on me watching repeats in the 1980s. The film captures so much of what we're living through

I watched this film during the Covid lockdowns.

In the movie: "Don't fall asleep", meaning really don't fall asleep spiritually or in your awareness. And the vax shedding felt like what may be happening in a different way to the movie (actual body fluids), but some kind of viral take over that may change a person. In the movie it is said "Don't show emotion and they can't tell who is who" and I wondered if that was the end game, robotic like people.

The China Syndrome, a 1979 film with Jane Fonda, Jack Lemmon, and a young Michael Douglas (a VERY good movie, highly recommended) portrays a near-meltdown at a nuclear power station in which the core comes very close to being exposed.

12 days (twelve days!) after the film's release, the Three Mile Island nuclear incident occurred, which almost exactly followed the film's storyline.

There are 2 versions - British earlier and the later US 2020 rewrite - eerily predictive. They quickly shut the US version down after one season, it seemed to me.

Quote Utopia is an American science fiction drama television series adapted by Gillian Flynn from the 2013 British original series of the same name. It was released on September 25, 2020, on the Amazon Prime Video streaming service.[1]

In November 2020, the series was canceled after one season of eight episodes.[2]

    ...

Synopsis:[3] The comic book fans discover a global conspiracy. The comic book contains clues of future events because it is written by one of the architects of a plan designed to prevent ecological disaster as the Earth's population rises and resources are depleted. The plan consists of: (1) Convincing the world's population that there is an outbreak of a deadly new virus, (2) Once convinced of the narrative of the faux-pandemic, announce to the public the creation of a new vaccine, (3) Through the coordination between global elites and non-governmental organizations, governments move quickly to inject the world's population with this "vaccine". (4) Once the population is injected, it turns out that the vaccine is designed to sterilize almost all of those people that take it, causing the global population to drop from 7.8 billion to about 500 million, and ushering in a new era of plenty.

    TELEVISION
The Real Reason Amazon Canceled Utopia

Quote One issue many critics had with the show was that its "ripped from the headlines" horrors were simply too similar to the real headlines and too horrible to be enjoyed in the year 2020.

In his review for NPR, Glen Weldon admitted, "There's certainly been a healthy appetite for shows like The Boys and Utopia out there, which offer ugly, mean-spirited visions of humanity as a miserable collection of gullible fools who are only too eager to allow themselves to get manipulated by institutions." However, he questioned whether now was the time for the show's grim brand of realism. He pointed out that while the 2013 U.K. version was imagining a future that might be just on the horizon, the 2020 U.S. version is simply our current reality. He wrote, "With its cascade of images of death tolls and triage tents and quarantine zones and health workers in PPE and street protests and harried CDC officials? That's just the beleaguered world around us."

    ...

There is a silver lining for fans who were looking forward to seeing where the story of Utopia was going to go next. Unlike its American counterpart, the original British series did get a second season, which expands the worldbuilding and furthe's the central narrative thread. Both seasons of the British version are available to stream on Amazon Prime at the time of writing.

Something to keep in mind, though, is that Flynn already had a second season for her version of the story planned, and it deviated significantly from the original's season 2 narrative. She told RadioTimes, "I didn't even watch much of [creator Dennis Kelly's] second season because mine goes to a different place and takes us to a different ending."

So, even though a second season of the U.K. version of Utopia does exist, it's cold comfort to those who were fans of Flynn's particular take on the story.

The British is the real and non-modified one. It was cancelled down soon as the end the first season.
