Just playing devil's advocate here [ahem..] but I don't perceive 66.6% as being anything sinister. In this case, it simply equates to a two-thirds majority. That's a very common proportion for dividing up a whole.

Dear Friends, I've moved a number of posts debating the reality of weather manipulation to this existing major thread:
It's an important (and controversial) topic to try to understand, but I'd just like to reserve this thread to important real-time updates about Hurricane Milton itself.

I've been through a half dozen hurricanes in Florida. And one thing we never did was leave. We see the Governor and the Mayor of Tampa telling people to seek space in local shelters. Only bonehead Biden told them to "flee!"
Worst idea I ever heard of in the long run. Where in God's name are they going to find someplace to sleep in North Florida or Georgia, places where 50 tourists a week is good news - and there are millions of these snowbirds hitting the roads in panic. Yes, the ones on the beaches will need to go to shelter - the rest would better serve themselves to ride it out. And don't forget they need to feed those fleeing Floridians, and provide them with gasoline, and even entertainment. Imagine a restaurant in a small town there seeing thousands wanting to get in and eat? Please.
For over 50 years I have been watching the ones that leave, in panic, without planning. And 99.9% of the time they are snowbirds, or transplants. When I went to High School Florida had about 5 million people - now what is it ? 20 something?

How is it that those shacks on stilts out in the middle of Miami bay and Tampa bay and off the coasts of Ft Myers and St. Pete = hell, all along the coasts - are still there?

Open partially a window in the front, and the same partial amount in a window in the back - to reduce the pressure that will build. Sit under the stairs or in the portion of your home that has the most arches, and read by flashlight. Now, if you are in one of those crap condominiums built cheap with substandard nailing and cost cutting illegal work covered by bribes, then by all means head to an approved shelter.
And the guy in the sailboat is likely to get a free trip to Disneyland - over the land.

Can you please speak to the storm surge that’s predicted? It’s hard to understand how anything could survive water levels that high.

Thank you, Bill. I reached a point where I questioned which sources are designed to pull at the heart strings (or worse) vs. solely informational. I question the integrity of those that use deliberate program language to scare the masses. It seems to have ramped up even before the second hurricane news.

Apologies to those putting in the time and efforts to post. My self-preservation mode has kicked in.

It's absolutely intentional, they want mass panic and chaos, people displaced. Next they'll probably prevent many of them from returning to certain areas regardless if their homes are still standing or not.

It's absolutely mind-blowing what has happened and what is now happening in just these last couple of weeks.

Thank you for relating to us the real-life experiences you’ve known.

Can you please speak to the storm surge that’s predicted? It’s hard to understand how anything could survive water levels that high.

OK. longish story but perhaps helpful. I was in a single-wide mobile home in Ft Myers when it hit. Hard. Some of the block houses nearby lost their roofs and other things such as boats being pushed through garages and out the other side, but other than shaking us up we had very minor damage. So it's like a Tornado somewhat - people will have differing experiences.
Now, as to the shorelines. I know the shores from Ft. Myers to New Port Richey almost like the back of my hand - at various times I had boats ranging from 15 ft to 32 feet with twin engines. I also owned properties, at various times, in Dunedin, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Sarasota, Ft. Myers and Puntarenas. All on or near the water. Damage totals, all property, all hurricanes - not very much. Lost some boards on my docks a few times - easily replaced, lost a few carports, ditto.

The one that hit Ft. Myers is the one that is most appropriate - I went in the car with my Mom and Dad just after it hit, and then we toured Ft. Myers Beach and Bonita Beach. There was some trees left about a half-mile from the shore, and it looked like they had been decorated with some type of Christmas decorations - pretty white and other colors in the trees. Those were what was left of the boats in the marina.
The road that we drove on was about six hundred yards off the beach. The old road, that was normally about 50 feet off the beach was asphalt with a good layer of rock under it. It no longer existed. In fact, if you had not known that it was there you would not have believed it could disappear so easily.

So roads near the beach, wharfs and piers, homes close to the beaches - those will be damaged. The water table will become filthy - for quite awhile, due to septic tanks overflowing with other garbage into the water sources and storage areas. Garbage and ruins will need to be picked up for months. And all of the plywood that the Yankies nail up over their windows will need to be taken down and a new use found for it. I'm trying to be a bit humorous here, but really we never nailed up any plywood.

    @NHC_Atlantic

    1. A large area of destructive storm surge, with highest
inundations of 10 ft or greater, is expected along a portion of the west-central coast of the Florida Peninsula. Near the coast the surge will be accompanied by damaging waves. Water levels will rise rapidly as the eye approaches, and strong onshore winds on the backside of the hurricane will also cause a rapid rise in water as the center makes landfall.

    2. Devastating hurricane-force winds are expected along portions of the west coast of Florida within the Hurricane Warning area. Life-threatening hurricane-force winds, especially in gusts, are expected to spread inland across the peninsula and to portions of
the Florida east coast within the Hurricane Warning area tonight and early Thursday. Residents should be prepared to take shelter in an interior room, away from windows, as the core of the hurricane moves
    across the central Florida Peninsula.

    3. The risk of strong tornadoes will continue into the evening hours across the southern and central portions of the Florida Peninsula. Be prepared to take immediate shelter in an interior room if a Tornado Warning is issued for your area.

    4. Heavy rainfall across the Florida Peninsula through Thursday brings the risk of catastrophic and life-threatening flash and urban flooding along with moderate to major river flooding, especially in areas where coastal and inland flooding combine to increase the overall flood threat.

Superb piece, Mike. My thoughts and prayers are with you. And when you say 'go f**k yourselves' to all the onlookers watching 'voyeuristically' from a safe distance - you're right. So damn right it pains me. It should pain all of us. I guess it's just what we ghastly humans do. When disasters happen, they hook us by the collar and force us to watch them. It's in our DNA to ogle from a safe distance as it all plays out - we don't have any choice in the matter. Not with some dark morbid impulse though, but out of dismay, concern, and disbelief. And yes, I guess there's a sprinkling of heavenly thanks that we're many miles away. That may sound insulting, if not obscene. I apologise unreservedly, it's just another aspect of our vile human natures. Ultimately, my highest concern, first of all, is for you Mike, and my mate Robert in Orlando who I haven't heard from yet, and every Avalonian and every Floridian who's standing in harm's way. I want to see they're going to be all right. I want to see that you're going to be all right. So please, Mike, if the power stays on and you have the opportunity, keep us updated with how you're doing. A great many people are rooting for you...

    Thanks Mark! Appreciate that.

The "go f#ck yourselves" was tongue in cheek. I stand by what I wrote there, but if I sent that via text, or wrote it on the forum I would have included a smiley emoji. But I find that kind of dry, ironic humor works better in a story like that when delivered in a certain way. A big smiley face would have ruined the effect lol.

I'll definitely update when the time comes
