An update of sorts. Tim Pool reported on this, and said he couldn't be sure that the story was correct. But here was a YouTube comment:

It's actually true Tim....and my sister who's a doctor said how her hospital has seen a sudden increase in poisonings from overdosing on Tylenol. They have 4 in critical condition, and another 5 struggling with overdose.

Not too long ago, just a few short years, we would've baulked at the world today. Thrown up our hands and doggedly refused to believe it. I think a part of us has become inured to the madness and grown to accept it as normal. Which is problematic when you think about it. It's how we got here in the first place! We mustn't lose touch with that which makes us whole, and sane, and never forget where we came from. The world before it was turned on its head.

That's an interesting question. It's rampant in the US, because so many people just can't afford food for their families, even if they wish they could pay for things.

But so very interestingly, here in Ecuador I've never once heard of any shoplifting anywhere. The 'poorer' people (a) grow their own food, and/or (b) buy every kind of fresh fruit and veg at super-cheap roadside market stalls. No-one goes hungry here at all — not anyone. (And neither is there any homelessness, not a single person living 'on the streets'. But that's probably for another thread)

No doubt, unfortunately. But also in the US there are numerous "soup kitchens" and "food pantries" where people who just can't afford food for their families can go, else arrange for delivery (in some cases).These are non-profit organizations that receive much donated food from average Americans, often through food drives held at work places, churches, etc. So, I suggest there's a choice.

I've occasionally seen shoplifting in grocery stores, and they're always individuals coming in to pick up lunch or dinner--a soda and a prepared meal. And then there's the rampant phenomena of youth gangs completely raiding convenience stores; they're not stealing bags of rice for their families.

Some readers may know or remember that a week ago the Netherlands used a highly obscure law to seize control of the Chinese chip-making company Nexperia, which was based there. Here's the BBC article about it:

But the Netherlands forgot that the chips themselves are made in China.

So the Chinese announced that they'll simply not export any of their chips to the Netherlands. None at all.

Now the Netherlands is seeking talks with the Chinese.
