So what's happening?

Well, in their effort to establish an Islamic state/Sharia law, Islamic jihadist extremist groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) are slaughtering Christians in massive numbers, destroying churches, and abducting clergy and civilians.

The numbers vary quite a bit, but this is what Google AI tells us:

Since 2009: Reports from the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) indicate that over 52,000 Christians have been killed by Islamist militants and other perpetrators in the 14 years since the Boko Haram insurgency began in 2009. Other reports citing Intersociety place this figure higher, at over 125,000 Christians killed since 2009, alongside thousands of moderate Muslims who were also victims of the violence.

For the year 2025 (partial data): Intersociety reported that more than 7,000 Christians were killed in the first 220 days of 2025 alone, an average of about 30-35 per day.

Annual Figures: Open Doors, an organization that monitors Christian persecution, reported around 3,100 Christian deaths in its 2025 World Watch List reporting period (October 2023–September 2024), making Nigeria the country with the most Christians killed in 2024.

This happened just a couple weeks ago. This is a video of a Christian church service in Nigeria that captured the first moments of a gun attack in which at least two people were killed, and the pastor and worshippers were kidnapped.
