Smile Poems, words for the soul

i grew up with these words hanging in my folks kitchen, i now have a copy in my kitchen, the desiderata is a beautiful and inspiring poem, on that i would like to share with my fellow avalonians :D, so come and sit in silence under a tree with me and enjoy these word of light and peace

    Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
    Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
    and listen to others,
    even the dull and the ignorant;
    they too have their story.

    Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
    you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

    Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
    Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
    But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
    many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

    Be yourself.
    Especially, do not feign affection.
    Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
    Beyond a wholesome discipline,
    be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
    no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
    Be cheerful.
    Strive to be happy.

    short and sweet. Roy Harper

You ASK: what is the quality of life?
seeking to justify the part you play
and MASK, what seems a worthless fate,
to strive to make it anymore or less than short and sweet

And YOU, you are a fantasy,
a view from where you'd like to think the world should see
be TRUE, and you will likely find:
a FEW,building a vision, doing justice to your time

And WE, we the immoral men,
we DARE, naked and fearless in the elements
we're FREE, care free from tempting fate
AWARE, and holding off the moral nightmare at the gates

And SHORT, short as from me to you
as close as we all hope to try to be
we're CAUGHT, watching the darkening skies
who KNOWS? helpless as time itself to hold time at at bay

and SWEET, sweet as a mountain stream,
BEHOLD, towards a new day breaking in the east
We'll MEET, as every future dream unfolds,
and SURELY, quality it is, at the very least

    make my wish come true

    searching for answers
that evaded me for so long,
i got lost in a maze of treachery
    hidden under a mask of innocence;

    it’s been so long
    words kept me awake
    all night long, making
    me restless and confused;

    drowning in the wishes
    of a long lost past,
    i let my life down,
    i let myself down;

in the midst of the night
    under the velvet skies
    i surrendered to life
    i whisper for forgiveness;

so with a smile on my lips
and a wish on my heart
i give faith(hope) one more reason
    i give life another chance
    to make my wish come true;

I'm Alive, I Believe In Everything

    Self. Brotherhood. God. Zeus. Communism.
    Capitalism. Buddha. Vinyl records.
Baseball. Ink. Trees. Cures for disease.
    Saltwater. Literature. Walking. Waking.
    Arguments. Decisions. Ambiguity. Absolutes.
    Presence. Absence. Positive and Negative.
    Empathy. Apathy. Sympathy and entropy.
Verbs are necessary. So are nouns.
Empty skies. Dark vacuums of night.
    Visions. Revisions. Innocence.
I've seen All the empty spaces yet to be filled.
I've heard All of the sounds that will collect
at the end of the world.
    And the silence that follows.

I'm alive, I believe in everything
I'm alive, I believe in it all.

    Waves lapping on the shore.
    Skies on fire at sunset.
Old men dancing on the streets.
    Paradox and possibility.
    Sense and sensibility.
    Cold logic and half truth.
    Final steps and first impressions.
    Fools and fine intelligence.
    Chaos and clean horizons.
    Vague notions and concrete certainty.
Optimism in the face of adversity.

I'm alive, I believe in everything
I'm alive, I believe in it all.

    KENA UPANISHAD

That which is not expressed by speech,
but that by which speech is expressed:
know that alone to be Brahman the eternal
and not what people here adore.

That which is not thought by the mind,
but that by which the mind thinks:
know that alone to be Brahman the eternal
and not what people here adore.

That which is not seen by the eye,
but that by which the eye sees:
know that alone to be Brahman the eternal
and not what people here adore.

That which is not heard by the ear,
but that by which the ear hears:
know that alone to be Brahman, the eternal
and not what people here adore.

That which is not breathed by the breath,
but that by which the breath breathes:
know that alone to be Brahman the eternal
and not what people here adore
NEVER MIND HIS SILENCE~REMEMBER HE IS LISTENING

    What is love?
    but a ceaseless flow

    What is love?
    but the desire to grow

    What is love?
    but a feeling so deep

    What is love?
    but the tears you weep

    What is love?
    but a timeless mirror

    What is love?
    but the answer to fear

    What is love?
    but a humbling wow

    What is love?
    but the here and now

    What is love?
    but a warming heart

    What is love?
    but the end and start

    What is love?
    but a freedom of will

    What is love?
    but the silent and still

    What is love?
    but a thought so vast

    What is love?
    but the joy you cast

    What is love?
    but an aware soul

    What is love?
    but the cosmos whole

    What is love?
    but a shining star

    What is love?
    but who you really are

    peace,

    wow thanks folks beautiful poems

hears one i would like to share with folks here

    Look to this day,
For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision,
    But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day.

Believe in your Dreams, and they will come true,
Your true love is already dreaming of you.
Give your heart fully and tenderly,
And then you will see the world more passionately,
Believe in love, and lovely flowers will spring up all around,
And a sea of love will rise up to carry you homeward bound,
To a home filled with sounds of music and laughter,
Believe in your Dreams, and you will find love ever after!

    Within, without the cosmos wide am I;
In joyful sweep I loose forth and draw back all.
A birthless deathless Spirit that moves and is still
Ever abides within to hear my call.

I who create on earth my joys and doles
To fulfil my matchless quest in all my play,
I veil my face of truth with golden hues
And see the serpent night and python day.

    A Consciousness Bliss I feel in each breath;
I am the self amorous child of the Sun.
At will I break and build my symbol sheath
And freely enjoy the world's unshadowed fun.

How does it feel to be completely unreal
How does it feel to be a voter
How does it feel to be a voluntary heel
    I wonder who's it is
I see you queuing up outside Saint Peter's gate,
You can feel bonafide if you ride with the tide
    But it's not real

How does it feel to be out on your own
How does it feel to be thinking
How does it feel to be out on the run
With the mindless world at your heels
I wish I had no answers to put to you
Cos they got me so high tied I feel
like most of me has died
    And it's real

    And outside on the dragon
    And inside in the cold
Mammy's on the bandwagon, daddy's just getting old
And through the blood spew heavens
    The roar of lust complains:
Please let me in I have no sin, but you know I'm not real

And how does it feel to be the master's right hand nose
How does it feel to be lieutenant
How does it feel to be stood on someone's toes
With a leech bleeding you for rent,
When you say you want a bit more rank
You wanna be a big wheel
You can feel magnified if you hide in
    your pride... It's not real

And how does it feel with a white flag in your fist
How does it feel to have two faces
How does it feel with your god strapped to your wrist
And him leading you such a chase
You got one set of words for him,
and you got another for me
You're gonna feel mystified when you're identified
Don't worry kid it's not real

Chorus: And outside on the dragon
    And inside in the cold
Mammy's on the bandwagon, daddy's just getting old
And through the blood spew heavens
    The roar of lust complains:
Please let me in I have no sin, but you know I'm not real

And through the blood spew heavens
    The roar of lust complains:
Please let me in I have no sin, but you know I'm not real

I know its a song, but poetical nonethe less

I love this old man, hes been with me most of my life

There is so much potential for good in a collective humanity
A shift from competition to cooperation would heal our insanity

If we all just worked towards a single goal
A planet full of stewards that all feel whole

What is it we desire as a unified Earth?
What shall we manifest? What could we birth?

Every creature created equal...we have no dominion
The sun shines on us all with no judgment nor opinion

What is it going to take to bring us all together?
More quakes, more hurricanes, more deadly weather

Every shake and every tremor is a message from Gaia
Either learn to live as one people or sianara...good-bya

I know this may sound harsh but that's the way of the sword
The truth of love rests in giving, not in how much we can hoard

Give to one...give to all...let's start a tsunami of global caring
It would be a much brighter planet if more time was spent sharing

    peace,
    mikey

FROM THE STARS ~ WE CARRY THE LIGHT

    ANGELS OF THE LIGHT

    THERE WAS ONLY LIGHT
    AND RADIANT WAVES OF LOVE
    WE WERE THE LIGHT
    WE WERE THE LOVE
    AND WE WERE ONE
    WE WERE A MAGNIFICENT,
    GLOWING,
    LOVING SUN
SENDING FORTH OUR LIGHT TO ALL
    SO THE UNIVERSE WOULD KNOW
    ETERNAL TRUTH
HELD BY THE WISDOM OF LOVE,
    THE LOVE THAT I AM
    THE LOVE THAT WE ARE,
LIGHT FROM A GLOWING, LOVING STAR

    THE POWER OF OUR LOVE
    BLAZED INTENSE AND BRIGHT
OUR STAR COULD NO MORE CONTAIN
    THE LOVE AND LIGHT,
    AND WE WERE MANY
    WE WERE MAGNIFICENT,
    GLOWING
    LOVING ANGELS
CARRYING FORTH TO ALL, OUR STAR
    SO THE UNIVERSE WOULD KNOW
    ETERNAL WISDOM
EMBRACED BY THE TRUTH OF LOVE,
    THE LOVE THAT I AM,
    THE LOVE THAT WE ARE,
LIGHT FROM A GLOWING, LOVING STAR

IN THE DEPTH OF LOVE WE CAME
TO SAVE THIS WORLD FROM INNER DEATH,
    TO TRANSMUTE MATTER INTO LIGHT,
    TO LIFT ITS LOW VIBRATION
    BEYOND THE DARK OF NIGHT
AND SPARE THIS ICY, DENSER REALM
    ITS PLUNGING, HOPELESS FLIGHT

IN GIVING SO MUCH LIGHT AND LOVE
    WE'VE NEARLY ALL FORGOT
    OUR MAGNIFICENT, GLOWING, STARRY PAST
    BELIEVING WHAT WE'RE NOT
    AND NOW WE MUST REMEMBER
THE TRUTH OF WHO WE ARE-
    ANGELS BEINGS CO-CREATING,
SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF A STAR
    WE ARE MAGNIFICENT,
    GLOWING,
    LOVING CHILDREN
    OF A NEARLY FORGOTTEN SUN
WHOSE LIGHT GOES FORTH TO BRIGHTEN ALL
SO THE WORLD WOULD KNOW IT'S ONE,
ENFOLDED BY THE POWER OF LOVE,
    THE LOVE THAT I AM,
    THE LOVE THAT WE ARE
LIGHT FROM A GLOWING, LOVING STAR

    Carefully and secretly
I look out from behind my eyes
    This world often seems
    Like an alien environment
So I have to be careful

    I see many things
    Things which don't make sense
Even to me, the ‘original thinker!’
It is safer inside this shell
    Protected by skin and bone

    I sometimes come out
    And dance in the moonbeams
    Lose myself in music
    Surrender myself in love's passion,
    But mostly, I stay inside
    Watching, observing … wondering ...

Biding my time, until that special day
I can take my place once more
    Return to my home...
    Among the stars.

William Blake - Auguries of Innocence

To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
    And eternity in an hour.

A robin redbreast in a cage
Puts all heaven in a rage.

    A dove-house fill'd with doves and pigeons
Shudders hell thro' all its regions.
    A dog starv'd at his master's gate
Predicts the ruin of the state.

A horse misused upon the road
Calls to heaven for human blood.
Each outcry of the hunted hare
A fibre from the brain does tear.

A skylark wounded in the wing,
A cherubim does cease to sing.
The game-cock clipt and arm'd for fight
    Does the rising sun affright.

    Every wolf's and lion's howl
Raises from hell a human soul.

The wild deer, wand'ring here and there,
Keeps the human soul from care.
The lamb misus'd breeds public strife,
And yet forgives the butcher's knife.

The bat that flits at close of eve
Has left the brain that won't believe.
The owl that calls upon the night
    Speaks the unbeliever's fright.

He who shall hurt the little wren
Shall never be belov'd by men.
He who the ox to wrath has mov'd
Shall never be by woman lov'd.

The wanton boy that kills the fly
    Shall feel the spider's enmity.
He who torments the chafer's sprite
Weaves a bower in endless night.

    The caterpillar on the leaf
Repeats to thee thy mother's grief.
Kill not the moth nor butterfly,
For the last judgement draweth nigh.

He who shall train the horse to war
Shall never pass the polar bar.
The beggar's dog and widow's cat,
Feed them and thou wilt grow fat.

The gnat that sings his summer's song
    Poison gets from slander's tongue.
The poison of the snake and newt
Is the sweat of envy's foot.

The poison of the honey bee
    Is the artist's jealousy.

The prince's robes and beggar's rags
Are toadstools on the miser's bags.
A truth that's told with bad intent
Beats all the lies you can invent.

    It is right it should be so;
    Man was made for joy and woe;
And when this we rightly know,
Thro' the world we safely go.

Joy and woe are woven fine,
A clothing for the soul divine.
    Under every grief and pine
Runs a joy with silken twine.

    The babe is more than swaddling bands;
    Every farmer understands.
    Every tear from every eye
    Becomes a babe in eternity;

This is caught by females bright,
And return'd to its own delight.
The bleat, the bark, bellow, and roar,
Are waves that beat on heaven's shore.

The babe that weeps the rod beneath
Writes revenge in realms of death.
The beggar's rags, fluttering in air,
Does to rags the heavens tear.

The soldier, arm'd with sword and gun,
    Palsied strikes the summer's sun.
The poor man's farthing is worth more
Than all the gold on Afric's shore.

One mite wrung from the lab'rer's hands
    Shall buy and sell the miser's lands;
Or, if protected from on high,
Does that whole nation sell and buy.

He who mocks the infant's faith
Shall be mock'd in age and death.
He who shall teach the child to doubt
The rotting grave shall ne'er get out.

He who respects the infant's faith
    Triumphs over hell and death.
The child's toys and the old man's reasons
Are the fruits of the two seasons.

The questioner, who sits so sly,
Shall never know how to reply.
He who replies to words of doubt
Doth put the light of knowledge out.

    The strongest poison ever known
    Came from Caesar's laurel crown.
Nought can deform the human race
Like to the armour's iron brace.

When gold and gems adorn the plow,
To peaceful arts shall envy bow.
A riddle, or the cricket's cry,
Is to doubt a fit reply.

The emmet's inch and eagle's mile
    Make lame philosophy to smile.
He who doubts from what he sees
Will ne'er believe, do what you please.

If the sun and moon should doubt,
    They'd immediately go out.
To be in a passion you good may do,
But no good if a passion is in you.

The whore and gambler, by the state
    Licensed, build that nation's fate.
The harlot's cry from street to street
    Shall weave old England's winding-sheet.

The winner's shout, the loser's curse,
    Dance before dead England's hearse.

    Every night and every morn
    Some to misery are born,
    Every morn and every night
Some are born to sweet delight.

Some are born to sweet delight,
Some are born to endless night.

We are led to believe a lie
When we see not thro' the eye,
Which was born in a night to perish in a night,
When the soul slept in beams of light.

God appears, and God is light,
    To those poor souls who dwell in night;
But does a human form display
To those who dwell in realms of day.

love this one by blake and thank you folks i find something very beautiful in poetry........its like reading whisperings from the soul

    Cosmic Consciousness

I have wrapped the wide world in my wider self
And Time and Space my spirit's seeing are.
I am the god and demon, ghost and elf,
I am the wind's speed and the blazing star.

All Nature is the nursling of my care,
    I am its struggle and the eternal rest;
The world's joy thrilling runs through me, I bear
The sorrow of millions in my lonely breast.

I have learned a close identity with all,
    Yet am by nothing bound that I become;
Carrying in me the universe's call
I mount to my imperishable home.

I pass beyond Time and life on measureless wings,
Yet still am one with born and unborn things.

    LOOK TO THIS DAY

    Look to this day:

For it is life, the very life of life.

    In its brief course

Lie all the verities and realities of your existence.

    The bliss of growth,

    The glory of action,

    The splendour of achievement

    Are but experiences of time.

For yesterday is but a dream

    And tomorrow is only a vision;

    And today well-lived, makes

    Yesterday a dream of happiness

And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

    Look well therefore to this day;

Such is the salutation to the ever-new dawn!

There is only ever the step you are now taking
There is only ever the choice you are now making

It matters not what has happened before
Now is your eternal shot for love to restore

Love is what it has always been about
For love is the flame that never goes out

Love is the infinite creator of our free will
Love is the utterly passive, the silent, the still

Love is the main ingredient of every choice
Love is the reason you exist and for that rejoice

You are indeed one with a most passionate love
The spark in your heart which carries you above

Any obstacle, any problem, any experience at all
Love is on your side...love is at your beck and call

This should deeply thrill you to be aware that you are
United with every plant, every animal, and every star

For the love that birthed you
    Birthed every other being too

Yes, we all have love in common
And it is to love we all say, "Amen"

    love,
    mikey

I am dust particles in sunlight.
    I am the round sun.

To the bits of dust I say, Stay.
    To the sun, Keep moving.

    I am morning mist,
    and the breathing of evening.
I am wind in the top of a grove,
    and surf on the cliff.

    Mast, rudder, helmsman, and keel,
I am also the coral reef they founder on.

I am a tree with a trained parrot in its branches.
    Silence, thought, and voice.

The musical air coming through a flute,
a spark of stone, a flickering in metal.
Both candle and the moth crazy around it.
Rose, and the nightingale lost in the fragrance.

I am all orders of being, the circling galaxy,
the evolutionary intelligence, the lift, and the falling away.

    What is, and what isn't.

    You who know, Jelaluddin,
You the one in all, say who I am.
    Say I am you.
