Default Our Natural State is Joy

I just did a search for the word joy and nothing came up.

Where do we find joy? What bring us joy?

My joyfulness comes from Love. Joy for me is peace of mind. Where is your joy?

Spiritual teaching says Joy is our true state and not dependent on the external. (joy body)
Happiness is a different animal and seems to be dependent on cause (external)

    Hence the problems of relationships.

    Nature. Trees. Being outside.

    Mountains. Clouds. The warm sun.

    Swimming in the ocean.

    Walking barefoot.

    Silence.

And nothing beats a great hot soak in the tub.

Happiness and joy are somewhat related. If I have a difficult time, I can still find a state of mind to find joy. It comes from within. Some people, no matter what you do for them have no joy or happiness. That's because they learned to behave in a way not conducive to accept joy. Happiness means different things to different people, but I think wanting what you already have and gratitude is a start. I am alive, I feel rain on my face, I have many wonderful things and people that give me comfort and love. The beautiful ocean and trees, a flower, a hug, and viewing the sun rising and setting. I feel joy being to experience the good things.

Default Re: Our Natural State is Joy

In ancient philosophy, joy is to be compared with the term mania (μανια), "delirium" or "madness" present in particular in Plato's Phaedrus. Mania designates the presence of the divine in what it transforms and energizes on the subject: a notion to be compared with enthusiasm (ενθουσιασμός) which affects those who contemplate the good or the beautiful, and who therefore go to- beyond feeling.
Cicero has a conception of it closer to the current meaning: for him, joy is a state of the soul, which, confronted with the possession of a good, does not lose its serenity.

In modern philosophy, new conceptions of joy appear. In the seventeenth century, it was the Dutch philosopher Spinoza who was the great thinker of joy, in particular in his Ethics where joy forms, along with sadness and desire, one of the three fundamental affects of human beings: all other feelings (love, hatred, hope, fear, etc.) are defined as particular forms of joy or sadness. Joy (lætitia in Latin) is defined by Spinoza as "the passage of man from a lesser to a greater perfection", that is to say as an increase in strength and in the self-realization of a human. Joy is thus an increase in our power, linked to the realization of our desires and our effort (conatus in Latin) to persevere in existence.

In Leibniz, we find a distinction between two Latin terms that can be translated into French as “joy”: on the one hand gaudium, the peaceful enjoyment which is not subject to any condition external to the subject, and on the other hand laetitia, the pleasure of the soul linked to possession of a good (in the sense of Cicero, in fact).

In contemporary philosophy, Nietzsche associates joy with the ability to approve existence (amor fati), despite its tragic character, as an expression of the will to power which assumes to be joyful despite the sufferings of life, without take refuge in an illusory happiness (religion, idealism). In the twentieth century, the philosophical currents of personalism and existentialism once again deepen the philosophical notion of joy.

This reminds me of what was shown to me about how to distinguish my own mind's voice to something else speaking in my mind. Your title says it best. This is our natural state of being. So, any thought going through your mind that is anti-you means it's a sure bet that it's something else in your mind.... Recognizing that will send it away....

We built my son and his girlfriend some end tables for their bedroom, it gave us a great deal of joy to build them and to give them away.

They split up after a while and she took the end tables when she left, apparently, she received some joy (or happiness) from those tables.

Now we get to build two more end tables for my son. Looking forward to it and will no doubt receive joy once again when we give them to him.

I would find a great deal of joy if he enters a stable relationship and keeps these tables for years to come or a lifetime.

I felt in my natural state yesterday when I spent almost 4 hours "building" beautiful things, such as various Christmas ornaments, most of which I offer because the joy of those who receive them is enormous.

Today I felt the greatest joy, to be able to have the opportunity to write many pages in a letter for a dear friend, it's like writing a "space" letter over time ... it was a true contemplation in a sincere, human connection as there are still billions of connections and beautiful souls on this Earth for which I am grateful.
And all this to be just human.

To be honest, I am able to have a lot more joy since I learned the art of not giving a ****.

    It's not that I don't care about anything ... I just don't give a **** about anything.

Life is far too important to take seriously.
