The Gulf Spill Continues: Is Obama Powerless Against BP?

After BP successfully placed a cap to divert some of the spewing oil into tankers, thousands of gallons continue to flow daily into the gulf. August is slated as the earliest date that any permanent solution may emerge. BP remains totally in charge of potentially the largest environmental disaster in the earth’s recorded history, a fact that proves — in “check mate” fashion — that corporations dominate the inner workings of the U.S. government, a truth previously revealed by the bank bailouts.

More than one gigantic eco-system may be destroyed by BP, and the President of the U.S. is sadly reduced to lecturing in “serious tones,” with daily adjustments of tone based on the results of polling agencies.

When the polls reported that Obama wasn’t taking the oil spill seriously enough, his next TV appearance depicted him as “outraged.” Yet his continuing lack of action doesn’t match his new, stronger emotions; nor does his inaction match the dire seriousness of the situation.

Indeed, Obama continues to allow BP to lie about the seriousness of the spill, even when numerous independent scientists disputed BP’s estimates of the spillage. Of course Obama knew that BP had a profit incentive to lie, while Obama has his own incentive to allow the lie — and continued lies — of BP.

One reason Obama doesn’t challenge BP is because he’s on their payroll. The news agency Reuters explains: “During his time in the Senate and while running for president, Obama received a total of $77,051 from the oil giant and is the top recipient of BP PAC and individual money over the past 20 years, according to financial disclosure records.” (May 5, 2010).

Attorney: Deepwater Horizon Managers Knew About Oil Rig Problem Before Explosion

Top Houston attorney Tony Buzbee says he has new evidence which indicates that Deepwater Horizon’s managers knew that the BP oil rig had major problems before its explosion on April 20, citing the eyewitness account of a crew member who rescued burning workers on the rig of a conversation between Deepwater Horizon installation manager Jimmy Harrell and someone in Houston.

According to the witness, Harrell was screaming, “Are you ****ing happy? Are you ****ing happy? The rig’s on fire! I told you this was gonna happen.”

Harrell was talking via satellite phone and whoever was on the other end of the line was apparently trying to calm him down as the rig burned.

“I am ****ing calm,” said Harrell, according to Buzbee. “You realize the rig is burning?”

A boat captain then asked Harrell to leave the bridge. Transocean have refused to confirm or deny that the conversation took place.

Buzbee is a respected lawyer with a successful history of winning cases brought against oil companies. He represents 15 rig workers along with dozens of shrimpers, seafood restaurants, and dock workers. The witness to the conversation signed a 3 page statement attesting to the fact that it took place, but refuses to be identified for fear of reprisals.

USNORTHCOM Gears Up For Potential Attack On U.S. Soil

USNORTHCOM has admitted that they are preparing military operations within the United States. This is the first time in history this has been done and they will be working with DHS, state and local law enforcement on U.S. soil.

The focus of this operation will be in our own back yard. Northcom is planning on defending against enemy attacks and supporting civilian authorities with fighting an unconventional foe, all on US soil.
NORTHCOM went on to say that the drill will be in the Gulf area. They anticipate no infrastructure and possible extreme weather conditions.

“Even more significant, this inspection marked the first time that any Air Force unit has been wartime validated in support of the security and defense of the United States of America. That’s huge,” Nelson said.

“The survival of thousand Americans rests on this training”.

The Intel Hub believes that their could be a mass evacuation of the Gulf. The chemicals that are being used on this oil spill could, by themselves cause a tremendous amount of various health problems. We will keep you posted. This could be part of Operation Garden Plot. and is currently saying that the oil spill should be stopped by next week. One thing is for sure, the dispersant isn’t going anywhere in months much less weeks.

Evidence Points To BP Oil Spill False Flag

    - Sales of shares and stocks in days and weeks beforehand
    - Halliburton link, acquisition of cleanup company days before explosion
    - BP report cites undocumented tampering with well sealing equipment
    - Government uses disaster to push for Carbon Tax, Nationalization talk

Troubling evidence surrounding the Deepwater Horizon explosion on April 20th suggests that the incident could have been manufactured.

On April 12th, just over one week before the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded, Halliburton, the world’s second largest oilfield services corporation, surprised some by acquiring Boots & Coots, a relatively small but vastly experienced oil well control company.

The company deals with fires and blowouts on oil rigs and oil wells. It was responsible for putting out roughly one third of the more than 700 oil well fires set in Kuwait by retreating Iraqi soldiers during the Gulf War.

The deal itself is still under scrutiny with Boots and Coots facing an ongoing investigation into “possible breaches of fiduciary duty and other violations of state law”

Where this information gets really interesting is with the fact that Halliburton is named in the majority of some two dozen lawsuits filed since the explosion by Gulf Coast people and businesses who claim that the company is to blame for the disaster.

Halliburton was forced to admit in testimony at a congressional hearing last month that it carried out a cementing operation 20 hours before the Gulf of Mexico rig went up in flames. The lawsuits claim that four Halliburton workers stationed on the rig improperly capped the well.

As the New York Times noted on May 26th, “BP officials chose, partly for financial reasons, to use a type of casing for the well that the company knew was the riskier of two options,”

Workers from the rig and company officials have said that hours before the explosion, gases were leaking through the cement, which had been set in place by the oil services contractor, Halliburton. Investigators have said these leaks were the likely cause of the explosion.”

According to a 2007 study by Minerals Management Service, cementing was a factor in 18 of 39 rig blowouts in the gulf between 1992 and 2006.

Another intriguing connection Boots and Coots has to the Deepwater Horizon explosion comes via Pat Campbell, the man BP has employed to cap the well beneath the ruined rig. Campbell worked for Boots and Coots as general manager for many years.

BP has admitted to buying Yahoo and Google keywords in an attempt to control publicly available information in the wake of the catastrophe. It seems that the company is taking all the flack for the spill while the Halliburton link is being roundly ignored.

BP’s prepared testimony briefing, which has since leaked online, also intriguingly notes that the Hydraulic Control System on equipment designed to automatically seal the well in an emergency was modified without their knowledge sometime before the explosion.

Off-Shore Drilling Stocks Fall Amid Reports Of Another Leak

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Off-shore drilling stocks slumped Tuesday on concerns about the length of the moratorium on deepwater operations and the future of the drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, as reports surfaced of a second oil leak there, this one at a well operated by Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc. (DO).

Goldman Sachs analysts cut their view on the entire deepwater drilling sector to neutral, saying the ongoing disaster at BP PLC's (BP, BP.LN) Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico is causing significant uncertainty for the whole off-shore industry.

Chairman of Goldman Sachs International Was - Until Last Year - Also Chairman of BP

Janine Wedel has written extensively on how the "shadow elite" rule the world and about the "flexians" - the movers and shakers of the shadow elite who glide across borders, and structure overlapping (and not fully revealed) roles in government, business, media, and think tanks to serve their own agendas.

Wedel says that flexians wear many hats both within and outside of government, and use their networks of contacts to influence policy - are warping our democracy and the rule of law.

Peter Sutherland is the quintessential flexian.

According to his September 2009 bio:
Peter Sutherland is chairman of BP plc (1997 - current). He is also chairman of Goldman Sachs International (1995 - current). He was appointed chairman of the London School of Economics in 2008.... Before these appointments, he was the founding director-general of the World Trade Organisation. He had previously served as director general of GATT since July 1993 ...
Sutherland resigned as BP's chairman in 2009, but apparently still serves in various key capacities.

Sutherland is managing director - as well as chairman - of Goldman Sachs International (Goldman Sachs International is the very powerful subsidiary of the Goldman Sachs Group, of which Lloyd Blankfein is CEO). Sutherland is also an Advisory Director of Goldman Sachs Group.

Sutherland is also European Chairman for the Trilateral Commission.

He has, at various times, attended Bilderberg meetings.

As if that is not enough, Sutherland also serves in the following capacities (click on "Read Full Background"):
Mr. Sutherland served as an Attorney General of Ireland and also served as European Commissioner from 1985 to 1989 where he was responsible for competition policy.... He serves as the Chairman of British Petroleum, BP Amoco PLC and United Kingdom. From 1989 to 1993, he served as the Chairman of Allied Irish Bank. .... He serves as a Non-Executive Director of Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson. He serves as a Director of Goldman Sachs International. He has been Member of Supervisory Board at Allianz SE since January 2010 and serves as its Member of International Advisory Board .... Mr. Sutherland served as a Non Executive Director of BP Plc since July 1995. He serves as a Member of Foundation Board of World Economic Forum. He served as an Independent Non Executive Director of National Westminster Bank PLC since January 2001. He served as an Independent Non Executive Director of The Royal Bank Of Scotland Plc from January 2001 to February 6, 2009.... In addition, he serves on the board of Allianz, Koc Holding A.S. and is a member of the advisory board of Eli Lilly.... He served as a Director of LM Ericsson Telephone Co since 1996, Ericsson SPA since 1996 and Investor AB since 1995. He served as a Non Executive Director of Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc from January 2001 to February 6, 2009.

Sutherland is - literally - like Lloyd Blankfein and Tony Hayward rolled into one. But unlike Blankfein and Hayward, he has also held numerous powerful governmental and quasi-governmental positions.

BP is using highly toxic chemicals in the Gulf; Food Crops Threatened

As I’m sure many of you have, I’ve been following the situation in the gulf as closely as I can. There is no certainty on any one subject, due to the closely guarded cover-up by BP and the Feds. We do not know how much oil is leaking, how much has leaked, whether to trust the live feeds or not (still haven’t met anyone that didn’t claim to be looking at a looped feed), how much damage is now or will be done, etc, etc, etc.

There have been many theories fabricated as a result, as people try and come to terms with what’s going on. Some claim the entire spill is a hoax, a fake, being used as an excuse for a future relocation of the locals. Still others claim that the leak is entirely unstoppable, and that we’ve hit a virtual “oil volcano,” which may actually erupt as the leaking floor corrodes away, causing a collapse of the sea floor. The result of such an event would be a large, toxic oil tsunami.

Gulf oil spill 'may top 100,000 barrels a day'

    (The Times, London)

    http://timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article7146713.ece
BP’s oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico may be up to four times the scale estimated by a government scientific panel, pumping out 100,000 barrels a day in what equates to the company’s “worst case scenario” and prompting new accusations that executives are stonewalling the truth.
    Note this...
"BP’s “top kill” effort two weeks ago to stem the flow by firing mud and junk into the well appeared to have stepped up the rate of the leak, Dr Leifer said."
... which is consistent with Bob Cavnar's important and informed comment yesterday on MSNBC (MUST SEE) ... that "they experienced some kind of failure during the top kill operation".

Oil shows up near Alabama beach resort town

(CNN) -- Oil from the massive spill in the Gulf has moved into the inland waterway along coastal Alabama, prompting the U.S. Coast Guard to close Perdido Pass, the main water access route for fishermen and boaters in the popular resort town of Orange Beach.

BP and the government have tried to protect the pass for weeks with thousands of feet of boom, but thick waves of oil have seeped into the pass and down the waterway, coating the marshy shoreline as it moves through.

People in the community are frustrated, watching the massive oil spill ruin, not only the once pristine beaches and turquoise water of the Gulf, but their livelihood, as well.

Chris Ybarra owns Cotton's Restaurant on Orange Beach Boulevard, the main drag through the seaside resort town that should be bustling with tourists and activities this time of year.

The beach is only about 200 yards from his building, but Ybarra said his business is dwindling.
"It's definitely on the decline. People are canceling their reservations and it's definitely beginning to hurt more than it did a month ago," he said.

Ybarra has been in business for 25 years, specializing in surf and turf, fresh seafood and steak. But that's a potential problem now that 33 percent of the Gulf in his neck of the woods is off-limits for fishing.

Ybarra said he's more fortunate than many of his neighbors, and he can easily diversify.
"If I have to go to selling freshwater catfish or primarily serving steaks or chickens, then that's something that I'm going to certainly look at to try and maintain the stability of my business," he said.

Ybarra says his friends, neighbors and fellow business owners have all faced adversity before, primarily from the devastation of hurricanes, but have always come out on top, always rebuilding and moving forward. However, he said the oil crisis is very different.

"The problem we're having with this is the uncertainty. It's very exasperating because it's like an emotional roller coaster," he said.

Ybarra said BP and the government don't seem to know how to respond to the ongoing disaster.

It seems like the government wants to demean honest efforts of independent citizens just to keep their own false reputation in tact. Maybe they don’t want an actor to take credit for what the administration was set up to do. Egotism seems to be playing a big part in the scheme of things….there’s no room for it and every possibility should be considered.

BP oil spill: David Cameron backs Barack Obama's hardline stance
David Cameron has backed Barack Obama in his criticism of BP over the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

The oil firm has seen almost £50 billion wiped off its value since oil began leaking from one of its pipelines following an explosion on a gas platform in the Gulf of Mexico.

Investors say the hardline approach taken by Mr Obama – who has promised to "kick ass" over the incident – has contributed to the share price declines. The US administration last night threatened to block BP paying a dividend in order to ensure victims of the spill off the coast of Louisiana got sufficient compensation.

The pension funds of millions of Britons have been hard hit – as exposure to BP, Britain's biggest company, is high.

Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, this morning became the most senior UK politician to defend BP, saying "anti-British rhetoric" levelled at the company was a matter of "national concern" and that the oil giant was paying "a very, very heavy price" for what had been an accident.

"I would like to see a bit of cool heads rather than endlessly buck-passing and name-calling," he said. "When you consider the huge exposure of British pension funds to BP it starts to become a matter of national concern if a great British company is being continually beaten up on the airwaves."

Gulf of Mexico oil spill: timeline

The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that followed an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig is now considered the largest in US offshore history. Below is a chronology of the spill and its impact:

    BP

    April 20, 2010

An explosion on the Deepwater Horizon offshore oil drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico, around 40 miles south east of Louisiana, kills 11 workers and injures 17 others.

The rig is owned and operated by Transocean, a company hired by BP to carry out the drilling work.

    April 22

The US Coast Guard estimates that the rig is leaking oil at the rate of up to 8,000 barrels a day.

Two remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs) are sent down to attempt to cap the well, but prove unsuccessful.

Another two ROVs are dispatched in an attempt to activate the blowout preventer – a giant series of pipes and valves that could staunch the leak – but again prove unsuccessful.

    April 27

BP reports that its first-quarter profits more than double to £3.65 billion following a rise in oil prices.

    April 30

City analysts including Morgan Stanley predict that the disaster could cost BP between £1 billion and £3 billion as shrimpers in the state of Louisiana file the first class-action lawsuits against BP and the platform’s owners.

    May 3

Work begins on a drilling a relief well to isolate the leak as Tony Hayward, BP’s chief executive, indicates that the firm will seek compensation from Transocean.

The slump in BP share prices reaches 15 per cent as some experts predict the total compensation and clean-up bill could be around £10.6 billion.

One of the biggest oil containment operations ever attempted begins, with a flotilla of nearly 200 boats sent to tackle the spill.

    May 10

BP admits it has dramatically underestimated the cost of the leak and that it has already reached around £240 million.

    May 12

James Dupree, BP's senior vice president for the Gulf, admits during congressional hearings in the US that a safety valve protecting the oil well failed a key pressure test just hours before the explosion.

    May 17

Shares rise as BP says it is capturing about a fifth of the estimated oil gushing from the ruptured well by using a pipe to divert it from the sea bed onto a ship.

    May 18

Mr Hayward claims the environmental impact of the spill will be "very, very modest". His reassurances coincide with the discovery of the first tar balls from the spill off Florida.

Experts begin to fear that currents could be directing a slick the size of Luxembourg towards US coastal areas.

The US government announces it is nearly tripling the size of an area in the Gulf of Mexico that is closed to fishing.

    May 28

BP attempts a “top kill” operation to plug the spill. The company admits that the procedure has never before been attempted at such depths and its “ultimate success” is uncertain.

The total cost to the firm reaches around £638 million as Barack Obama states that BP would "pay every dime" for the damage caused and criticised the "cosy and sometimes corrupt" relationship between regulators and the oil industry.

    June 1

BP shares tumble a further 15 per cent after it admits its “top kill” operation was unsuccessful. It emerges that the company has lost a quarter – £30 billion – of its market value since the explosion.

Meanwhile, documents emerge showing that the firm was given permission to drill in the Gulf of Mexico after promising it was equipped to deal with a spill 10 times larger than the current leak.

Eric Holder, the US Attorney General, announces he will visit the site of the spill for the first time on Tuesday, increasing speculation that a criminal investigation will be launched.

    June 7

BP says a second containment system to stem the leak should be ready by "mid-June", as costs of the clean-up rise to £860 million and the total share-price slump reaches 30 per cent.

    June 8

Norway bans new deepwater oil drilling in the North Sea in a sign that panic over BP's Gulf of Mexico spill is spreading.

Meanwhile the US President attacks Mr Hayward, saying he should have been sacked for tactless comments made after the spill.

    June 9

BP buys the top Google and Yahoo! search result for terms like "oil spill" in a bid to recover its public image.

Obama is accused of holding "his boot on the throat" of British pensioners after his attacks on BP are blamed for wiping billions off the company's value.

The firm's share price falls a further 17.35p to 391.55p – representing a 40 per cent drop on the 655p price of a share two months ago.

    June 10

The US government signals it will take legal action to force BP to stop paying a dividend to shareholders. The company's shares tumble.

BP oil spill: Washington issues 72-hour deadline for new plan to fight slick

Washington has raised the pressure on BP, setting a 72-hour deadline to present updated plans for battling the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Coast Guard Adm Thad Allen, who is leading the US government response to the disaster, met BP officials in Washington and ordered them to produce records of compensation claims filed in four affected southern US states.

"BP, as a responsible party, is accountable for making the communities, individuals and business impacted by this spill whole again," said Adm Allen.

"We need more detail and openness from BP to fulfill our oversight responsibilities to the American people and ensure that BP is meeting its commitment to restore the Gulf coast."

The stringent demands for greater transparency betrayed the growing mistrust between BP and President Barack Obama's administration more than seven weeks into the nation's worst ever environmental catastrophe.

Fuelled by round-the-clock media coverage of oiled birds and tides of toxic crude washing up on US shores, American public anger is growing and Mr Obama is under increasing pressure to hold BP accountable.

I just posted this in another thread but i't real info so I'm putting it here too:

I've just been listening to what Pastor Lindsey Williams has told Alex Jones..... and it's horrific.

The true gush is 4 million gallons per day and the chemicals coming out with it are many many times greater than the safe limits for these toxic chemicals.

The probable reasons for such a big operation kicking off in the southern US are:

    The very poisonous air.

The probable use of a nuclear device.

With crude gushing out and laying all over the Gulf, will someone please explain to me how safe this is? Maybe polluting our oceans isn't enough? Maybe now they want us to burn? Or at the very least pollute our atmosphere too!

    Sorry folks, I'm pretty PO'd.

Folks, you have to read this.

All Beast... No Beauty Grand Isle

    CNN producer note
luvnola visited Grand Isle, Louisiana, yesterday and took photos of the scene there. She said she was frustrated and angry at the lack of workers on the beach and in the water cleaning up the oil. Romero lives in New Orleans, but has visited Grand Isle regularly. 'I cannot fathom the depth and breadth of the emotions these residents feel,' she wrote. 'I am still so angry today and they are there watching this every day.'
    - katie, CNN iReport producer

I have been putting off uploading this iReport because I am so angry and have been since my visit to Grand Isle again yesterday. Where are the hundreds of BP workers that were flown in when the President made his flyover weeks ago? Haven’t been back... Since the spill I have been to Grand Isle five times and talked to a lot of the “locals” each time. I can’t begin to tell you how sickened these residents are. Both men and women, of all ages, got choked up when they spoke of what they see day after day. Here are a few of the things I saw on my trip.
