More UFO sightings baffle Capri residents
    Bright white orb, pulsating lights
    Ann Hall • special to marcoislandflorida.com • June 17, 2010

'On April 8, I wrote about the unusual sightings that my husband and I watched over Johnson's Bay for three consecutive nights.

We discovered that we were not the only ones to see the bright white ball of light that appeared out of nowhere and then sat silently about 150 feet above the water and mangroves March 27 through 29.

Morgan Beall, state section director with the Mutual Unidentified Flying Object Network, also known as MUFON, read this story and came to the Isles of Capri to investigate.

After speaking with Isles of Capri Fire/Rescue Chief Emilio Rodriguez and some of his staff as well as Mike Castellano, owner of Capri Fish House and his staff, Beall quickly learned that they, too, had witnessed the event and others like it in past months and years.

Beall's investigation revealed that residents of Marco Island and Naples had also witnessed similar sightings.

On April 20 at around 9:22 p.m., workers from Capri Fish House called Beall to report seeing the same light in the same area again, but a bit further away.

On that same night, four other residents of Capri also witnessed it. Each of them described the object as a strange motionless and silent white light that appeared to be pulsating a slight reddish or yellowish light off to the west over Johnson's Bay.

Beall and his partner came to Capri to investigate, but because they had to travel from Fort Myers, by the time they arrived at 11:15 p.m., the object was gone.

On May 26, and again June 10, more eye witnesses viewed this strange object.

This time it was in much closer, and on both nights it was seen between 9 p.m. and 11:15 p.m.

Chuck and Ginny Walton were the first to notice it May 26.

They came to our house and asked us to "come out to take a look."

We took our binoculars and were in awe of what we saw.

It was globe-shaped, and appeared to resemble a huge gyroscope. It hovered about 200 feet over the water in Capri Pass off to the west of us.

With the naked eye, we could see it pulsating a yellow and white light.

With binoculars, each of us could see the exquisite details of the object.'

Obama Officials Still Approving Flawed Gulf Drilling Plans

WASHINGTON — Despite President Barack Obama's promises of better safeguards for offshore drilling, federal regulators continue to approve plans for oil companies to drill in the Gulf of Mexico with minimal or no environmental analysis.

The Department of Interior's Minerals Management Service has signed off on at least five new offshore drilling projects since June 2, when the agency's acting director announced tougher safety regulations for drilling in the Gulf, a McClatchy review of public records has discovered.

Three of the projects were approved with waivers exempting them from detailed studies of their environmental impact — the same waiver the MMS granted to BP for the ill-fated well that's been fouling the Gulf with crude for two months.

In a May 14 speech in the Rose Garden, Obama said he was "closing the loophole that has allowed some oil companies to bypass some critical environmental reviews."

Environmental groups, however, say the loophole is as wide as ever and that the administration is allowing oil companies to proceed with drilling plans that may be just as flawed as BP's, which concluded that a major spill was "unlikely" and that the company was equipped to manage even the worst-case blowout.

"It's just outrageous," said Kieran Suckling, executive director of the Center for Biological Diversity, a conservation organization. "The whole world is screaming and . . . they're just continuing to move this stuff through the system."

The Obama administration has said it's cracking down on the oil industry with a six-month moratorium that prevents regulators from granting new permits for offshore wells deeper than 500 feet underwater in the Gulf of Mexico. That, however, hasn't stopped oil companies from submitting new drilling plans, which, as McClatchy reported earlier this month, routinely underestimate environmental risks and overestimate the companies' ability to respond to a disaster.

According to MMS records, since June 2 the agency has granted environmental exemptions — known as "categorical exclusions" — to three new drilling projects. Of those, an Exxon Mobil site at a water depth of 1,000 feet and a Marathon Oil site at 775 feet are classified as deepwater; the third is a shallow-water project by Houston-based Rooster Petroleum.

Environmentalists say these approvals fly in the face of the June 2 order by acting MMS director Bob Abbey that requires oil companies to submit additional safety information in their development plans. All three drilling plans were submitted to the MMS before Abbey's order.

The MMS also approved two other deepwater drilling plans — for a Chevron site 6,730 feet underwater and for an Exxon site at a depth of 6,943 feet — after subjecting them to environmental reviews, the records show.

When Obama's six-month ban is lifted, experts say these projects could form the basis for new, flawed wells unless the MMS submits them to tougher oversight.

"At no point did any of the moratoriums cease the use of (categorical exclusions)," Suckling said. "They're cueing up all these drilling projects with no environmental review, so they're just sitting at the starting line" until the ban ends.

A spokesman for the Interior Department said the policy on categorical exclusions "is still being studied" as part of a 30-day congressionally mandated review of U.S. drilling policy. The department issued a separate directive Friday that requires oil companies to submit information about the possibility of a blowout, which had been missing from many drilling plans, but made no mention of the waivers.

Suckling's group filed a petition with the department this week to ban the waivers and charged that the MMS violated the 1970 National Environmental Policy Act when it approved a 2007 lease sale — including for BP's blown-out Macondo well — saying it would have "no significant environmental impacts."

The center also has filed suit in federal court in Louisiana to force the MMS to review all 49 exploration plans for the Gulf that were approved with categorical exclusions.

Other environmental groups have brought similar suits, with lawyers charging that the ongoing issuance of the waivers is part of a business-as-usual mentality among the oil industry and the Department of Interior.

Congressional investigators found that, 11 days before the April 20 explosion aboard BP's Deepwater Horizon rig, the company sent a letter to federal officials urging them to continue issuing the waivers "to avoid unnecessary paperwork and time delays."

"The fact that the agency continued to spit them out while oil was pouring into the Gulf is just ridiculous to the extreme," said Mike Senatore, an attorney for Defenders of Wildlife, a nonprofit environmental group.

There are other signs that the BP spill hasn't put the brakes on offshore drilling in the Gulf.

Last week, Defenders of Wildlife and the Southern Environmental Law Center filed suit in federal court in Alabama challenging the MMS's approval of 198 new deepwater leases in the central Gulf since the BP spill began.

The lease sales — an earlier step, before oil companies submit drilling plans — create an incentive to continue offshore drilling despite the risks, attorneys argue. If federal regulators opt to cancel a lease once it's issued, the government must repay the company the fair market value of the lease or compensate it for the cost of its bid plus interest, the lawyers said.

"It immediately puts the U.S. taxpayer on the hook financially," Senatore said.

The lawsuit challenges Lease Sale 213, which covers 36 million acres in the central Gulf off the coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, and drew $1.3 billion in bids at a March auction at the Superdome in New Orleans, according to MMS records. Of 198 deepwater leases sold, at least 10 are owned by BP and are located over a mile deep, the groups say.

"The moratorium does not stop this process," Senatore said.

TEN QUAD TRILLION DOLLAR Notice of Lis Pendens on BP

Sovereign Citizens of the United States of America have filed a Lis Pendens against the British Crown on behalf of The People of America through its only legitimate agent, The United States of America.

The Lis Pendens was signed on June 15, 2010 by Trustees Charles C: Miller & Dean Arlo: Arp of 1402 Auburn Way N #416, Auburn, WA 98002 and delivered (faxed) June 16, 2010, unto the person of Her Majesty’s Treasury, The Rt. Honorable George Osborne MP, 21W1, HM Treasury, 1 Horse Guards Road, London SW1A 2HQ.

Briefly, according to Wikipedia, “a Lis pendens is Latin for “suit pending.” This may refer to any pending lawsuit or to a specific situation with a public notice of litigation that has been recorded in the same location where the title of real property has been recorded. This notice secures a plaintiff’s claim on the property so that the sale, mortgage, or encumbrance of the property will not diminish plaintiff’s rights to the property, should the plaintiff prevail in its case. In some jurisdictions, when the notice is properly recorded, lis pendens is considered constructive notice to the other litigants or other unrecorded or subordinate lienholders. The term is sometimes abbreviated as “lis pend”.

In current practice, a lis pendens is a written notice that a lawsuit has been filed concerning real estate, involving either the title to the property or a claimed ownership interest in it. The notice is usually filed in the county land records office. Recording a lis pendens against a piece of property alerts a potential purchaser or lender that the property’s title is in question, which makes the property less attractive to a buyer or lender. After the notice is filed, anyone who nevertheless purchases the land or property described in the notice takes subject to the ultimate decision of the lawsuit.
The recording office will record a lis pendens upon request of anyone who claims to be entitled to do so (e.g. because he has filed a lawsuit). If someone else with an interest in the property (e.g. the owner) believes the lis pendens is not proper, he can then file suit to have it expunged.

Some states’ lis pendens statutes require the filer of the notice, in the event of a challenge to the notice, to establish that it has probable cause or a good likelihood of success on the merits of its case in the underlying lawsuit; other statutes do not have such a requirement.”

'BP oil spill escalates global warming'

Almost two months after the Gulf oil disaster, scientists maintain that the methane gas associated with the gushing crude can actually worsen global warming.

"Once methane bubbles up out of the water and gets into the atmosphere, it's a very, very powerful greenhouse gas. So it is actually making global warming worse, Michael Hirshfield, from an ocean environment group, told Press TV.

"When bacteria use methane as fuel, they're eating it, they use up oxygen and if there is no oxygen in the water all the animals suffocate. We've never had a situation like this before. Bacteria can certainly break it down, and they're doing that."

Hirshfield comments comes a day after scientists warned that the leaking oil in the Gulf of Mexico contains vast amounts of methane that could jeopardize the environment.

The London-based energy giant BP says it's capturing 25,000 barrels of oil from the sea every day. But huge amounts of oil are still oozing into the water.

"There's so much oil in the water, so much methane in the water, it is not clear how fast they are going to be able to process it all," Hirshfield said.

On Saturday, BP dismissed claims by one of its partners that its behavior in the run-up to the disaster had been reckless.

Earlier this week, a team of US government officials and independent scientists said BP's ruptured well could be leaking between 35,000 and 60,000 barrels of oil per day. Just last week, the team had estimated the leak was between 20,000 and 40,000 barrels a day.

This is while independent scientists put the leaking oil at 70,000 barrels per day.

The Deepwater Horizon offshore oil rig exploded in April killing 11 workers, to triggers the worst environmental disaster in the US history.

Why did Obama turn down offers of help?

Amazingly, it looks like Obama deliberately exacerbated the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster to push his ideological agenda. Seems he actually refused offers of help from other countries to fix the bust oil well, refusing to waive the trade union-inspired protectionist legislation which normally prohibits such assistance from being taken -- but which was waived by President Bush over Hurricane Katrina, as had been done by other Presidents in the past. Notes Hans Bader:

In April 2009, the Obama administration granted BP, a big supporter of Obama, a waiver of environmental regulations. But after the oil spill, it blocked Louisiana from protecting its coastline against the oil spill by delaying rather than expediting regulatory approval of essential protective measures. It has also chosen not to use what has been described as “the most effective method” of fighting the spill, a method successfully used in other oil spills. Democratic strategist James Carville called Obama’s handling of the oil spill “lackadaisical” and “unbelievable” in its “stupidity.”

Obama is now using BP’s oil spill to push the global-warming legislation that BP had lobbied for. Obama’s global warming legislation expands ethanol subsidies, which cause famine, starvation, and food riots in poor countries by shrinking the food supply. Ethanol makes gasoline costlier and dirtier, increases ozone pollution, and increases the death toll from smog and air pollution. Ethanol production also results in deforestation, soil erosion, and water pollution. Subsidies for biofuels like ethanol are a big source of corporate welfare: “BP has lobbied for and profited from subsidies for biofuels . . . that cannot break even without government support.”

Sheesh. The disaster in the Gulf of Mexico is exceeded only by the disaster in Pennsylvania Avenue...

BP says it's paid $104 million to Gulf residents

(CNN) -- BP said Saturday that it has paid $104 million to residents along the Gulf Coast who have filed claims related to the Gulf oil spill.

The company said it has issued more than 31,000 checks in the past seven weeks.
There was no immediate response from local, state or federal officials to BP's tally of its payments.

But earlier Saturday, as oil recovery efforts continued throughout the region, one Louisiana official tried out a new device of his own on: a reversible drum vac that he ordered online for $400.

Within 15 minutes, he said his crews had collected 55 gallons of oil and Nungesser -- vocally frustrated by the response from BP and the federal government -- was thinking about whipping out his credit card to pay for more pumps from an online site.

BP issued a press release Saturday detailing its response to Gulf residents affected by the spill. The company said it has received about 64,000 claims so far, and the average time from filing a claim to checks being issued is four days for individuals and seven days for "more complex business claims that have provided supporting documentation."

Critics Knock Wind Out Of BP Chief's Sails

Embattled BP chief executive Tony Hayward has spent the day sailing off the British coast amid confusion over his role in the oil spill clean-up.

The company has confirmed that Mr Hayward was still in charge of the disaster reponse in the Gulf of Mexico - despite comments by BP's chairman to Sky News that suggested otherwise.
Carl-Henric Svanberg told Sky News on Friday that Mr Hayward would be handing over responsibility for the clean-up operation to Robert Dudley, the firm's managing director of the Americas and Asia since 2009.

However, there was some confusion about when the CEO would relinquish daily control - with BP saying on Saturday he was still in charge and would be "until the leak is stopped".

In his interview with Sky's Jeff Randall, the company's chairman did concede that some comments made by Mr Hayward had "upset people".

But it was his actions, not his words, that appeared to be at odds with his role - spending Saturday competing in a yachting race around the Isle of Wight.

BP North Sea venture with Iran hit by US ban

The US has imposed sanctions on an Iranian oil company working with BP in the North Sea – listing it as a body that "persons should not do business with".

The move will be seen as further evidence of the fracturing relationship between the British energy giant and the US administration, following the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
President Obama has suggested BP's chief executive should be sacked, made the company create a $20bn (£13.5bn) compensation fund and forced it into suspending the dividend after the April 20 accident.

US officials this week added the Iranian Oil Company UK to its banned list. BP has a 50-50 joint venture with the business that US authorities now allege is "owned or controlled by the Government of Iran".

The joint venture is at the Rhum field, off the coast of Scotland – a £350m gas field, which has 800bn cubic feet of recoverable reserves. BP confirmed it has a joint venture with Iranian Oil Company UK, but declined to comment further.

American officials refused to say how the sanctions would affect BP. Although the rules apply only to transactions involving "US persons", the joint venture partnership is likely to further strain diplomatic relations between the US and the embattled British oil company.

It is now 61 days since the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded and sank, triggering a catastrophic leak off the coast of Louisiana. BP's share price fell a further 1pc on Friday to 357.45p, after Moody's, the rating agency, downgraded BP by a further three notches to A2 from Aa2.

Oil blowout fumes sickening people in Atlanta--geologists says: "Where are the logs?"

Chris Landau has made a living as an engineer for decades. South African by birth, American citizen by naturalization and choice, Landau is at odds with many mainstream geologists. He is a proponent of the inorganic oil creation process. This process differs from what we were all taught in school. It poses that oil is the byproduct of natural deep earth processes and that oil doesn't come "from decayed plant matter."

As a product from earth processes, the stuff we call oil contains a variety of toxic, deadly chemicals. Landau says the Gulf catastrophe is caused by an oil well blow out. This is where gas pressure builds up and blows the well head. In this particular case, not only has the well head been blown, but the massive pressure inside the well, driven by a pool of gas that is thousands of miles deep and 20 miles across, have fractured the sea bottom. This has created additional splits in the earth, which allow more oil to bleed out of the earth, like black blood spewing from the earth's arteries.

Landau says this is not a "spill." A spill is finite. This is a blow out, an explosion of oil spewing out of the earth under great pressure. What is spewing out, blasting out with more pressure than we comprehend, is a toxic mixture of various chemicals, some of which can kill you at a mere 400 parts per million.

There's hydrogen sulfide, benzene, methane, pentane, propane, ethane, butane, and a host of other combinations of hydrogen and carbon. All are dangerous in various concentrations. They are dangerous to breath and dangerous to touch. They cause cancer, lung damage and death. Some of them are so dangerous they cause genetic damage, passing their destruction onto generations yet unborn.

Landau says that the methane problem we have does not come from cow farts. The increasing concentration of methane in the atmosphere is often caused by methane gases, escaping from deep in the earth.

Not everything on Earth is human-friendly. Some of those deep earth compounds are radioactive, poisonous and dangerous to the human and animal life which live on the surface of the planet. The earth has a variety of processes and elements, each specific to different parts of this world we live on. Just as the earth changes from the outer reaches of the atmosphere, so it changes at various depths within the planet.

And the changes are explained in different ways, depending upon whether you believe in a biologic theory of oil formation, or in the inorganic/abiogenic theory. However, whether oil is formed by deep earth process over short periods of time, or longer periods of time by decomposition of plant material, the fact remains: oil and petroleum products are dangerous to human health.

We can not breath or touch oil/oil byproducts without damaging our lungs, generating cancers or causing genetic damage to ourselves and our unborn children. Crude oil and its components are dangerous to organic life, to the oceans and life therein.

DOJ Criminal Investigation Could Stall BP Lawsuits
The BP oil spill has prompted a number of lawsuits against the company. However, those lawsuits are now in jeopardy of facing a legal limbo as a Department of Justice probe could temporarily bring the lawsuits to a halt. The U.S. Justice Department opened the investigation to determine whether there has been any criminal wrongdoing.

Once the government begins a criminal investigation, the companies involved in the lawsuits will have a legally valid reason to stop cooperating in the civil suits. Anything they offer could be used against them in a criminal trial. Individuals can simply "take the fifth" and refuse to answer questions.

A plaintiffs lawyer involved in the civil lawsuits, believes that the criminal investigation could detract from lawsuits.

"Criminal investigations... take years before they're over. ... If I want to take a deposition, and someone says, 'I'm under investigation by the DOJ. I can take the Fifth,' there's nothing I can do about it."

However not everyone believes that a criminal investigation will hurt plaintiffs' lawsuits. "Anything that they uncover could be used in our cases," said Scott Summy, whose Dallas firm has eight oil spill lawsuits. "That could also have a bearing on what judges think, what the public thinks -- that could help mold public opinion," Summy said.

In the end it becomes a bit of a tradeoff, as on the one hand, a government investigation might uncover solid evidence of wrongdoing, even criminal convictions, bolstering the civil lawsuits. On the other hand, it could cause the companies involved in the BP oil spill to become tight lipped and resist cooperation, possibly dragging the cases out for years, if not decades.

    Spend a day with Bob!

    Notice to BP:
If you are looking for a leadership change, for $6 million a year, I am rested and ready!

    PS: Ahhh there's sad news...
If it's any consolation to the residents of the Gulf of Mexico, BP CEO Tony Hayward didn't win the yacht race he attended this weekend. His 52-foot yacht, named "Bob," finished fourth in its class.

This poor guy can't seem to get a break, even when he does get his life back.

Egypt oil spill threatens Red Sea marine life

CAIRO (AFP) – An oil spill off the Egyptian Red Sea coast of Hurghada threatening to damage marine life in the area has prompted environmental agencies to demand tighter regulation of offshore oil platforms.

Large quantities of oil have appeared in recent days around the resorts of Hurghada which draw millions of tourists who come to dive or snorkle, according to the Hurghada Environmental Protection and Conservation Agency.

"It started four or five days ago and the companies responsible didn't notify anyone. It is catastrophic," HEPCA Managing Director Amr Ali told AFP.

The spill was caused by leakage from an offshore oil platform north of Hurghada and has polluted protected areas and showed up on tourist beach resorts.

"The companies have said they will pay damages, but it is the environmental damage that we are concerned about," Ali said, declining to name the companies for legal reasons.

"We will take all measures, including legal, to make sure this does not happen again," he said.

Marine wildlife forced to shallow waters, seek safety from oil

As BP’s Gulf of Mexico oil disaster continues creating its legacy, marine wildlife has begun exhibiting unusual and extreme behavior, searching for oxygen in shallow coastal waters or heading to inland marshes for final resting grounds.

While current estimates show BP’s Gulf of Mexico debacle between 1.47 million and 2.52 million gallons of crude oil per day pouring into the Gulf waters, marine wildlife has begun seeking cleaner and more oxygen-rich water near coastal shorelines. Oil-covered birds are seen walking and crawling to inland marshes, lost in the tally of affected wildlife.

Dolphins, sharks, crabs, rays and a variety of saltwater marine life have begun crowding Alabama and Florida's coastal shorelines, according to an Associated Press report. Their unusual behavior, researchers believe, is the result of normal habitats becoming so tainted with high levels of oil that oxygen levels become depleted.

White House Slams BP Boss For Sailing Trip

Barack Obama's chief of staff has criticised BP boss Tony Hayward for taking a sailing trip during the oil disaster claiming it is the latest "in a long line of gaffes".

The BP boss was pictured enjoying the JP Morgan Round the Island Race in the Isle of Wight on a yacht called Bob that he co-owns.

It is the latest in a series of PR blunders which has also seen Mr Hayward comment on Facebook that he wished the crisis were over so he could have his life back.

The White House led hostile criticism of the BP chief executive's decision with chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, mocking: "He's got his life back, as he would say."

Mr Hayward's actions were not just condemned in the US- environmental charities in the UK were also quick to criticise the embattled CEO.

A company spokeswoman said the BP boss was spending time with his son but continued: "We wouldn't dream of commenting on what the chief executive does in his rare moments of private time."

Millions of gallons of oil are continuing to threaten the Gulf Coast after the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion killed 11 workers in April.

Since the disaster began, BP has been criticised for its inability to stop the leak with Mr Hayward accused of "stonewalling" a Washington Congressional Committee over the cause of the explosion.

On Friday, company chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg said Mr Hayward had been relieved of day-to-day control of the spill and that BP managing director Bob Dudley would take over.

Louisiana lawmakers propose prayer to stop oil disaster

You've seen the devastation. Now it's your chance to help. Tune in Monday night for a special "Larry King Live, Disaster in the Gulf: How You Can Help" telethon featuring an all-star panel of guests joining forces in the Gulf region. Don't miss "Larry King Live," 8 p.m. ET Monday on CNN.

(CNN) -- While cleanup crews and technical teams continue efforts to stop crude gushing into the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana lawmakers are proposing a different approach: prayer.
State senators designated Sunday as a day for citizens to ask for God's help dealing with the oil disaster.

"Thus far efforts made by mortals to try to solve the crisis have been to no avail," state Sen. Robert Adley said in a statement released after last week's unanimous vote for the day of prayer. "It is clearly time for a miracle for us."

The resolution names Sunday as a statewide day of prayer in Louisiana and calls on people of all religions throughout the Gulf Coast "to pray for an end to this environmental emergency, sparing us all from the destruction of both culture and livelihood."
