    Relax
These events were happening long before there were humans on the planet and the toxic happenings have been going on since we discovered chemicals and began mining and drilling for oil.
Because there is now the Internet we are instantly aware of these throughout the world and thats good.
The media also tends to look for similar events so if you get one then they look for similar.
For example there was a cluster of young men committing suicide in UK recently, it actually fell within the normal monthly average of suicides just it all happened in one place so it stood out.
Having said that there are peaks in all statistics and we seem to be hitting one at the moment with recent reported events.
Why worry it is a waste of time. If something can be done the thats different, do what you can do.
By the way 5th element is one of my favorite films.
The 5th element being love and that saved the world in the film.

Hello Chris - one of my favorite movies too (if you didn't already guess)

I actually took a hiatus from this and all other forums for awhile to preserve my sanity and I agree that instant access to information can make it seem that sky IS falling. That being said, I am convinced that the climate is changing. It happens, it has happened before and it will continue to happen. It's just that this time, we are in the "front row" so to speak. My post on the trees in first person PoV and something that I can literally see. I'm not sure if I was encouraged or disappointed to find an article supporting what I was seeing. And I am curious to know if anyone else, anywhere, has noticed more trees dying. I am verrrrry carefully watching the 30-40ft firs and maple in my neighbors yards

    5th Element,
I'm from Florida and years ago we had a problem with "lethal yellowing" which affected our palm trees. It is devastating to watch while this happens. A couple years back we all lost our citrus trees to citrus canker.

Opened up my IGoogle page and the USGS Earthquake Satellite gadget looked like a party around the Pacific Ring of Fire with all the different color balloons lit up! Has to be one of busiest days around the Ring of Fire I've seen yet...

    6 magnitude 2.0
    8 magnitude 3.0
    10 magnitude 4.0
    10 magnitude 5.0
    6 magnitude 6.0
    1 magnitude 7.1

That's 41 quakes in one day, just around the ring of fire!

Most of the smaller ones were largely clustered along the West coast of N. America and three 6.0 right on top of each other in between Alaska and Russia, most of the larger ones we're in the South Pacific, with three 4.0 and three 5.0 quakes appearing in S America.

One thing I've noticed lately are very few quakes in the Mediterranean and Middle East...that was a very busy region up until recently.

Viking, I believe oil and gas serve as a lubracant for the earth as well.

As to the dying off off penguins and bi-valves, starfish, etc... scientists believe it's due to the extended summer. Global warming or the precursor to global cooling, whatever one wants to call it, it's definately here.

    TOTHE,

Thank you for your post; the information you gave and the link provided is most enlightening. They say a picture is worth a thousand words? I can only think of one... Unbelieveable! This is probably why we are having such a hot summer across the US as well. This map makes Russia look like it's in total flames. After following the link and reading the comments, even the smallest of fires is marked with the same size and color flame so, it's a little misleading. Regardless, it's not plesant.

Guys, we're in the thick of it now! TOTHE and Rosie, thanks for the map and the photo of the storm front. Regarding the USGS quake map: I look at the map for the US, I see a pattern. I see a circle of quakes in the west. They are not large, but I'm thinking the continental divide is stressing. I don't know my western geography as well as eastern US, someone help me out here. Is there a section that's being outlined?

Here's a cool earthquake link, you can get the gadget application by setting up an igoogle.com page. Then you can log-on to get daily snapshot of quakes around the world in the last 24hrs, one day last week there were 40 little balloons circling the ring of fire...looked like a party!

With this gadget I've been watching the quakes intensify in magnitude and frequency for a couple of years now...

An interesting "toy" for your WinDoze machine is a free critter called "Earthquake 3D"

    From the page...
WATCH EARTHQUAKES IN 3D... Zoom and spin your way around the globe while viewing earthquakes in three dimensions! Control how the Earthquakes and Earth are shown. See at a glance up to seven days of global earthquake activity

Adjust and customize the display to see earthquakes in a variety of different ways. Filter earthquakes by size and time – then select from many display options that include quake indicators and map references. Earthquakes are shown in near real-time using the latest data from the USGS via the internet.

This doesen't look too good!!! The fires in Russia really are a disaster zone!!!

By VLADIMIR ISACHENKOV, Associated Press Writer Vladimir Isachenkov, Associated Press Writer

MOSCOW – Deaths in Moscow have doubled and are now averaging 700 people a day amid a sweltering heat wave and poisonous smog from wildfires, a top
    Russian health official said Monday.

Moscow health chief Andrei Seltsovky blamed weeks of unprecedented heat and suffocating smog for the rise in mortality compared to the same time
last year, Russian news agencies reported. He said city morgues are
nearly overflowing, with 1,300 bodies, close to their capacity.

Acrid smog blanketed Moscow for a six straight day Monday, with concentrations of carbon monoxide and other poisonous substances two or
three times higher than what is considered safe. Those airborne
pollutants reached a record over the weekend — exceeding the safe limit
    by nearly seven times.

About 550 separate blazes were burning nationwide Monday, mainly across western Russia, including about 40 around Moscow, according to the Emergencies
Ministry. Forest and peat bog fires have been triggered by the most
intense heat wave in 130 years.

Alexander Frolov, head of the Russian weather service, said judging by historic documents, this heat wave could be unprecedented over a much long
period — up to 1,000 years.

"Our ancestors haven't observed or registered a heat like that within 1,000 years," Frolov said at a news conference. "This phenomenon is absolutely
    unique."

He said the Moscow heat wave reflected the global climate's increased volatility.

Daily highs have reached up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 Celsius), compared to the summer average of 75 (24 C), and according to the forecast,
there will be no respite this week.

At least 52 people have died directly in the wildfires and over 2,000 homes have been destroyed. Flights to Moscow have been delayed and diverted.

Russian authorities have acknowledged that the 10,000 firefighters battling the blazes aren't enough, and sent thousands of army soldiers to help fight
    the fires.

On the Russian blogosphere, one of the country's last outposts of unfettered expression, the mood was bleak and angry that the situation had become so serious. One blogger
on the popular LiveJournal site suggested that Prime Minister Vladimir
Putin, Moscow's mayor and other top officials be fired.

Others focused on immediate issues — like getting a good night's sleep.

"Every night it's like we prepare for war," blogger Tsirtsis wrote on the independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta's site. "With open windows, it's
impossible to breathe because of the burning, and with closed windows
we choke in the stifling heat."

LiveJournal blogger Jokaloka said the polluting haze had prompted her to quit smoking.

Wednesday's international soccer match between Russia and Bulgaria has been moved from Moscow to St. Petersburg due to the smog.

Carbon monoxide tonnage from Russian peat fires..NASA & JPL are tracking this. Part of the text & maps from link below.

"......On August 1, 2010, the excess carbon monoxide content almost reached the maximum values seen in 2002. The rate of growth (approximately 0.7 megatons, or 700,000 metric tons, per day) characterizes the rate of emission; the current rate is approximately three times higher than in 2002"

Russian authorities declared a state of emergency in Ozersk, home to major nuclear reprocessing plant Mayak Photo: GETTY

"A state of emergency has been introduced in forests and parks on the territory of the Ozersk city district due to a complicated fire hazard situation," said a statement posted on the district's website.

Ozersk, in the Urals region of Russia, is the latest strategic site to be threatened by wildfires which have already badly damaged military depots and threatened other atomic facilities.
Ozersk's Mayak plant can process 400 tonnes of waste a year. It was the scene of one of the former Soviet Union's major nuclear disasters in 1957 when a liquid waste accident affected some 260,000 people and forced the evacuation of several towns.

The Snezhinsk centre, which makes nuclear weapons, is located in another town in the Urals some 925 miles east of Moscow.

On Sunday the Russian emergencies ministry called on its services to work round the clock to put out a fire threatening the centre.

Russia's other major nuclear centre – at Sarov in the Nizhny Novgorod region 310 miles to the east of Moscow – has also been threatened by blazes.

After stating several times that the wildfires posed no threat to the nuclear facilities, Russian authorities announced they had removed all radioactive and explosive materials from the site.

Radioactive materials were back at the plant by Monday, authorities said.

Sarov city, closed to foreigners, has hosted since Soviet times an important nuclear research centre that makes nuclear arms.

The defence ministry has in addition ordered that weapons, artillery and missiles at a munitions depot at Alabinsk, 40 miles southwest of Moscow, be transferred to a secure site.

The authorities have said that two Russian army bases had burned in late July in the Moscow region, ravaged by the flames.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev cut short his traditional summer break in the southern resort of Sochi and returned to Moscow to chair an emergency meeting of the national security council on the fire disaster.

Mr Medvedev sacked a string of officers over their failures to control the fires.

He formally warned the head of the Russian Navy Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky and his deputy Alexander Tatarinov over "incomplete professional responsibility" in tackling a fire last week.

"I order the ministry of defence to fire a whole number of officers for the disciplinary infringements that were allowed to take place," the president added in televised comments.

Those sacked included the head of the Russian Navy's logistics division Sergei Sergeyev and the head of the Navy's aviation Nikolai Kuklev, Medvedev said.

is this all caused by the planet or is this a mass attack on all the humans in the planet? its so weird the planet weather we have atm.

In russia heat wave ... in europe huge amounts of rain ... even tho its at the same distance from the N.pole. The global weather is changing tho i dont think its global warming that is doing this. i mean the rain that have been droping all over is amazing. I would love for a news update from anyone that follows the weather (like/knows about them).

p.s. anyone else things that the cme might have something to do with the weird weather?
