Viking, you are right. It's a lot, lot, lot of earthquakes. I've looked at the USGS site for many years now. I have not seen so many, nor such a close clustering, especially in So. Cal and Alaska. There are so many in So. Cal that you can't see 'em all for being on top of one another. Anyone with legs to walk is there right now because they choose to be. They must know and are willing to go along for the ride. Maybe Baja wants to be an island. May they have smooth sailing! Linda

Those clouds with the rainbow effect are quite normal; at least, I see them often. It could be ice particles causing a prism effect in the clouds. I've noticed this effect more commonly in chemtrails...

The second item in that video is peculiar, I just wish that the cameraman would have zoomed out to give us a point of reference; I couldn't tell what I was looking at.

That laser beam looking thing is interesting; looks fake, but who knows.

    This looks grim!!

The severe drought in southwestern China is persisting, worsening the situation for tens of millions of people short of drinking water. Experts say recent rainfalls in the region is far from adequate.

According to the latest statistics released by the Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief, the situation remains "grave".

Hey thanks Morning...let hope its not the calm before the storm!!

    Just found this...

More moving and shaking, but why?
The number of earthquakes greater than magnitude 4.0 in Southern California and Baja California has increased significantly in 2010. Scientists are studying the uptick but cannot fully explain it.

If you've been feeling more shaking this year, it's not your imagination.

The number of earthquakes greater than magnitude 4.0 in Southern California and Baja California has increased significantly in 2010. There have been 70 such quakes so far this year, the most of any year in the last decade. And it's only April. There were 30 in 2009 and 29 in 2008.

Seismologists said they are studying the uptick but cannot fully explain it. Major earthquakes tend to occur in cycles, and experts have said the region in recent years has been in a quiet cycle when it comes to sizable temblors.

    Tsunami in Peru'!

    From RSOE:

    Quote Situation Update No. 2
    On 13.04.2010 at 17:55 GMT+2

Authorities have declared a state of emergency in the province of Carhuaz in Peru’s Ancash region after part of a glacier broke off into a lake creating a massive wave that flooded nearby towns. “The towns that are in a lot of danger are Hualcán and Pariacaca, which have been blocked off,” the president of Ancash, César Álvarez, told RPP radio station. Álvarez added that the residents are being taken to other areas for their safety. Álvarez said he has requested a helicopter from Interior Minister Octavio Salazar in order to access areas affected by the flooding and determine the damage. Peru’s Civil Defense is also working on transporting drinking water to Carhuaz from the capital of Ancash, Huaraz. According to daily El Comercio, the ice block broke off the Hualcán glacier and crashed into Lake 513. The glacier reportedly measured approximately 500 meters long by 200 meters wide and created a 23 meter wave that flooded the towns of Hualcán, Pariacaca, Acopampa and Carhuaz and damaged a potable water plant. Six people were originally reported missing, however five were later located — three unharmed and two with minor injuries, according to daily La Republica. Peru is home to some 70 percent of Earth’s tropical glaciers. The country’s glaciers, which feed hydroelectric plants and provide drinking water to Lima, the world’s second largest desert city after Cairo, Egypt, are in the process of accelerated meltdown due to global warming. According to Peru’s National Resources Institute, or Inrena, the Andes Mountains have lost at least 22 percent of their glacier area since 1970.

    Situation Update No. 1
    On 13.04.2010 at 10:49 GMT+2

A huge glacier has broken off and plunged into a lake in Peru sparking a 23-metre high tsunami wave that destroyed a nearby town. The massive chunk of ice - around the size of four football pitches - tumbled into the '513 lake' in the Andes near Carhuaz, around 200 miles north of Lima. According to the Indeci civil defence institute, 50 homes have been destroyed. A water processing plant serving 60,000 local residents was also devastated when the wave struck on Sunday. Initially, six people were reported missing, feared dead under the debris - but local governor Cesar Alvarez has said five of those have been found alive. Authorities evacuated mountain valleys, fearing more ice breakages after the tsunami - which are most commonly caused by earthquakes. Blaming climate change, Mr Alvarez said: "Because of global warming the glaciers are going to detach and fall on these overflowing lakes. This is what happened." Investigators have said the ice block from the Hualcan glacier measured 500m by 200m. Patricio Vaderrama, a Peruvian glacier expert, said: "The tsunami wave breached the lake's levees, which are 23m high - meaning the wave was 23m high." Peru is home to 70 per cent of the world's tropical icefields.

    Situation Update No. 4
    On 14.04.2010 at 06:07 GMT+2

A magnitude 6.9 earthquake on Wednesday killed about 300 people in the mountainous Tibetan Plateau in southwest China and left more than 8,000 injured as houses, schools and offices collapsed. A series of quakes and aftershocks caused low, brick buildings in Qinghai Province's ethnically Tibetan Yushu county to collapse, residents and state media said. Troops have been dispatched to the area. About 300 had been killed in the county seat, also known as Jyeku, state television said, citing the deputy secretary-general of the Yushu government, Huang Limin.

The Tibetan plateau is regularly shaken by earthquakes, but casualties are usually minimal because so few people live there. Many residents of the remote area could be left without shelter in temperatures that hover near freezing in Yushu, and even colder in the high mountain villages. Government officials told state media the majority of houses had been badly damaged. "I see injured people everywhere. The biggest problem now is that we lack tents, we lack medical equipment, medicine and medical workers," Zhuohuaxia, a local spokesman. That the early morning quake had caused some schools and part of a government office building to cave in. Some vocational school students and primary school students were trapped in the rubble, it said, although residents said students at some schools had been able to flee to the playgrounds.

People from the Yushu prefecture highway department were frantically trying to dig out colleagues trapped in a collapsed building, department official Ji Guodong said by telephone. "The homes are built with thick walls and are strong, but if they collapsed they could hurt many people inside," Zhuo De told Reuters by phone from the capital of Qinghai province after contacting his family in Yushu. The quake was centered in the mountains that divide Qinghai province from the Tibet Autonomous Region. The foothills to the south and east of the area are home to herders and Tibetan monasteries of Yushu county, while the area to the north and west is arid and desolate. The quake was centred 150 miles (240 km) north northwest of Qamdo in Tibet and 235 miles (375 km) south southeast of the mining town of Golmud in Qinghai, and had a depth of 6.2 miles (10 km), the United States Geological Service said. A magnitude 5.0 quake struck the same region late on Tuesday night, and aftershocks of magnitude-6 and over rattled the town Wednesday morning, sending fearful residents into the streets.

    Situation Update No. 3
    On 14.04.2010 at 03:42 GMT+2

Chinese media say at least 67 people have died and others are trapped under rubble in Qinghai province after an earthquake said to be magnitude 6.9. The quake struck at 0749 (2349 GMT) 380km (240 miles) south-south-east of the city of Golmud, at a depth of 10km, according to US Geological Survey data. It appears that at least some of the deaths occurred in Qinghai's ethnic Tibetan town of Yushu. The quake was followed by two tremors measuring 5.3 and 5.2. "Soldiers have been dispatched to save the people buried in the collapsed houses," local official Huang Limin was quoted as saying by China's state news agency Xinhua. "Certainly there have been people hurt," one resident told Reuters news agency. "Rescuers are trying to pull them out. A lot of one-storey houses have collapsed. Taller buildings have held up, but there are big cracks in them." People from the Yushu prefecture highway department were frantically trying to dig out colleagues trapped in a collapsed building, department official Ji Guodong told Reuters by telephone. Zhuo De, an ethnic Tibetan resident of Yushu, who spoke by phone from the capital of Qinghai province, Xining, after contacting his family in Yushu, said dozens of people might have been hurt. "The homes are built with thick walls and are strong, but if they collapsed they could hurt many people inside," he said. AFP news agency notes that the remote high-altitude region is prone to earthquakes. The region, which is home to ethnic Mongolians and Tibetan farmers and herdsmen, is dotted with coal, tin, lead and copper mines, it adds.

    Situation Update No. 2
    On 14.04.2010 at 03:37 GMT+2

At least 67 people died and many others were buried under the debris after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit northwest China's Qinghai Province early on Wednesday, the China Earthquake Administration said.

    Situation Update No. 1
    On 14.04.2010 at 03:15 GMT+2

A rapid series of strong earthquakes hit China's Qinghai province early Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. At least one person was killed and many others were buried under the debris after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck at 7:49 a.m. local time (7:49 p.m. ET Tuesday). The epicenter was about 150 miles (240 kilometers) northwest of Qamdo, Tibet, in a remote area that is sparsely populated. Qinghai borders the autonomous regions of Tibet and Xingjiang and the provinces of Gansu and Sichuan. USGS also recorded two strong aftershocks -- of magnitudes 5.2 and 5.3 -- within half an hour of the quake. Citing the China Earthquake Networks Center, Xinhua said the quake hit the county of Yushu, a Tibetan region of Qinghai. It said residents near the epicenter reported casualties and collapsed buildings. Karsum Nyima, deputy director of news at local Yushu TV,said that most of the houses in the area were made of wood with earthen walls. He said some had come tumbling down, including a Buddhist pagoda in a park

REYKJAVIK, Iceland — A volcano under a glacier in Iceland erupted Wednesday for the second time in less than a month, melting ice, shooting smoke and steam into the air, closing a major road and forcing hundreds of people to flee rising floodwaters.

Authorities evacuated 800 residents from around the Eyjafjallajokull glacier as rivers rose by up to 10 feet (3 meters).

Emergency officials and scientists said the eruption under the ice cap was 10 to 20 times more powerful than one last month, and carried a much greater risk of widespread flooding.

"This is a very much more violent eruption, because it's interacting with ice and water," said Andy Russell, an expert in glacial flooding at the University of Newcastle in northern England. "It becomes much more explosive, instead of a nice lava flow oozing out of the ground."

Rognvaldur Olafsson, a chief inspector for the Icelandic Civil Protection Agency, said no lives or properties were in immediate danger. Scientists said there was no sign of increased activity at the much larger Katla volcano nearby.

Quote So, after yesterday's tectonic disappointment, I bring good news! If you like volcanoes, anyway. Our old friend Eyjafjallajökull, who we thought was stopping, is in fact not stopping. At all. News have been coming out of another eruption this morning following a large earthquake swarm overnight, this time underneath the Eyjafjallajökull glacier itself, most likely in the volcano's central caldera (crater).

Hey Swami, the ice is melting now, this link has a video showing the glacier melt. Big fear of floods now.
