Thank you, Playdo, and everyone else who sent positive vibes.
He told me that while his guests were enjoying themselves and having a good time
he had to deal with endless teething problems (f@ckups...his words)
But that is normal. It will get better, I told him.
    Another picture
    The bar

And the men's urinal has a view of the ocean, too

The Cliff Beach Club is the younger version of his father's (my ex) place, and adjoining it on the same property.
The main restaurant is called The Cliff; it is well established and caters to the rich and famous.

Good morning, the early sun is shining here.

I just heard a witness account from India and now revise my opinion of the cold wind that I found non-matching this bright sun. May things cool down over there too.

The restaurant is cool, (and) as in refreshing. The choice of colours has been kept simple and with a rather consistent cool palette, matching the view. Blue for water, white for the clouds, browns for the sand. It's delicate. Nice. Was it like that too under previous ownership? The theme.

This is also sun, 90° view from living room floor:

There was no restaurant there before. My ex bought the house of an English woman, now deceased,
who had retired in Barbados. Her small sail yacht used to be parked in front, and visible from the road I used when driving my son to school.
Back then I had a small antiques shop, and this lady would sometimes pop in for a chat.
She told me of her childhood. Her father had owned a traveling circus, and used her in his circus acts starting when she was five years old. He would tell her to lay down on the floor of the arena and place a stone slab on her body, which he would then proceed to smash into pieces, in front of the cheering audience.
Years later after I had left Barbados for Costa Rica, my former husband approached her with an offer to buy her property, so he could build his restaurant there (hence the name The Cliff) while she would be permitted to remain living in her house until her departure from this world, and it is this house my son remodeled to create the new restaurant. Although the restaurant area itself is on a deck built from scratch. The reception area, bar, kitchen, offices and a bakery are in the part that was once her house, and the changes made are enormous, and apparently were incredibly costly. Well, Dad paid. But my son designed it.

You know I took a different path, one which does not require tons of capital.
I was his dad's starter wife (he is now on number three) and we differed in our attitude to money and the rich.
Now, 26 years after our divorce, I am more creative than ever, using a palette of seeds and saplings and let nature do the rest.
When my botanical garden opens to the public a few years from now I will be proud to tell people that all this was done by a formerly unemployed couple who were not afraid to get their hands dirty.
The three of us are planting every day. Backbreaking work, as there are so many stones in the otherwise fertile soil.
    Took this picture this afternoon.

From a distance it looks less impressive now than what the future will reveal.
So lots of before and after pictures yet to come.
Not to forget what has not been planted yet, and is still inside the world of ideas.

Kudos to your son for his amazing creativity and any that made such a possibility.

One of the plants which was given to me. For a while I was worried it wouldn't make it, as transplanting a mature plant is quite risky. And then this flower popped out. A black Bird Of Paradise.
Incredible. And by the looks of it it seems to like the new garden.

Don't know how the above will appear...it's from the Swedish alternative forum Vaken=Awake, a demonstration against Monsanto in Gothenburg, i was not there but I've been singing on many demonstrations in this particular place...

It worked out well! "Transnational companies are used to move across and don't meet any obstacles to borders. Today we are showing that the resistance against Monsanto also doesn't know any borders!" Listen to the "singing" Swedish language and the dialect from Gothenburg

I just backtracked in this thread and had I seen ulli's posts about her son's new restaurant, I would have held off posting the post I posted in this thread last night about women and how we have worked so long for respect and recognition in the business world.

Anyway, someone here said that the restaurant business is a tough one and so on... well my niece and her husband opened their own restaurant in San Francisco in an area that has the most expensive real estate on the planet and I'm happy to say that after five years now, they are doing very well and will be opening up their 2nd restaurant in Sausalito sometime within the next couple of years. Do they have a life outside of work? Nope, they never will either not as long as they are in the restaurant business... that's for sure! But they are doing very well and that just gives proof that not all new restaurants fail... some do prevail!

Glad to hear it. Upper end has better survival chances than middle or lower end,
and once the clientele includes Hollywood and British royalty there is no chance of failure.
And this is what my former in-laws, my ex, and now my son are catering to.
And it is also the world I turned my back on- more and more as I woke up.
And judging by his friends (who are partly alt community people) my son is trying to live between those two worlds.
And that is the real cause of his stress.

P.S. I see Jiminii is visiting this thread right now. Hi there, Jim. Lots of love. Hope you are doing well.

I'm so relieve to hear that it's upper end and from the looks of it, thats what i thought too. You are sooooo right about it being all about, or mostly so, the clientele too (though excellent food, service, location, decor, atmosphere etc play just as big a role too) and there's no doubt in my mind that your son's place is going to prosper and become its own institution as time goes by. It will be something that will be passed on from one generation to the next! I'm so excited for you and your family ulli!

BTW, their's is located right on the ocean too... in this case the bay.

PS -- sheesh, so many typos in this one, have not had my coffee yet... just woke up. lol

"Trettondedagsmarschen" (13:th day after X-mas) played in Orsa Dalarna often presented abroad to be the most "typical Swedish". I stayed for 4 years in a village nearby learning a selfsustainable lifestyle playing with the local fiddlers. The guy leading the fiddlers was only a teenager at the time and now

He also plays guitar, classic violin and has his own TV-shows

Here and now, it is Friday night, a beautiful subtropical evening below the 30 parallel, I have a nice bottle of Garnacha and I'm really enjoying listening to Transiten's post. Great music. My wife's sister is visiting and the cousins are having a nice time and hopefully on their way to sleep. Cheers All!

Ulli, we touched in the beautiful atmosphere of his restaurant, but what's on his menu? Who's the chef?

Getting a work permit for the chef held up the opening by several months.
He is from Paris, is French, and arrived in Barbados several weeks ago.
All I know at this point is what some of the dishes look like.
I only got to see pictures, and brief Whatsapp messages, as I am in Costa Rica.
Will be going at the end of June.
    One of the starters

Ulli, we touched in the beautiful atmosphere of his restaurant, but what's on his menu? Who's the chef?

Here and now, it is Friday night, a beautiful subtropical evening below the 30 parallel, I have a nice bottle of Garnacha and I'm really enjoying listening to Transiten's post. Great music. My wife's sister is visiting and the cousins are having a nice time and hopefully on their way to sleep. Cheers All!

And here's another one for you playdo. This band "Kebnekaise" was the first to play electrified folkmusic in Sweden. The fiddler and I dated quite innocently and he inspired me to pick up the violin. We were supposed to go on a tour, me as a singer and guitar player but I ended up on Music High School in Gothenburg...thankfully, they smoked a lot of weed hence they got the nick name "The Highest band in Sweden" from Kebnekajse the highest mountain. The the fiddler was the only one who left the Hippie World....Here's what he looked like at the time, the guy sitting down to the left...

Best wishes from my Mercuryretrograde Lifereview......

Oh Gawd that looks good, especially the prawns. My son has a shellfish allergy so I don't see much shrimp. That picture will sate me for a while. Thanks!
