Just read a resume of 3 studies showing that intelligent people do more of the three S, Sleep later at night, Smoke pot and do drugs more, Sex much more sex than regular or non intelligent ones.
Full article in English - Research Shows Intelligent People Stay Up Late, Do More Drugs, And Have More Sex

    Summary:

    What does this all mean?

Correlation does not imply causation.  This does not mean that staying up late, doing drugs, and experimenting with sex toys makes you more intelligent.  But it seems to be the case that people who naturally have a higher degree of intelligence partake in these activities naturally because they are drawn to them.  Maybe it is because of their openmindedness, their desire to expand their mind and their experience, or a biological urge to experiment with something novel.

Chances are, a lot of people reading this tend to stay up late and indulge in life’s pleasures. This is not necessarily a bad thing, and it may even be a natural consequence of having an above average IQ. These three studies completely shatter everything we would expect to be true about people of high intelligence.  It seems to be the intellectuals that are having the most fun.  I think it’s time we let go of old stereotypes.

Carmody, youve got it all wrong. Alcohol is a symphony. If you allow it, it'll lift you into the stratosphere. It can be a glorious thing, but it won't do all the work for you like drugs...it makes you work a little harder. But you won't get there by drinking mike's spiked lemonade...youll need some guinness stout or some high quality belgian whites. Or a good pale ale...or 10

Happy new year to everyone! Lots of love to all of you!!

My guess is that you’re making a funny. But just in case…

It was hard to respond to the article. It included: I think it’s time we let go of old stereotypes. I felt like it was all over the place. In which case, my response will be as well.

It depends from what perspective and which part of the life journey I compare what the article speaks too. Along with experimentation and intelligence, I’d add courage and insight to the equation.

This addictive personality understands that sex, drugs and alcohol are limiting. By comparison, activities I’ve participated in such as the firewalk, 3-day monthly intensive group encounters and outward bounds, were insightful, therapeutic and have on-going beneficial effects.

Inner understanding is where it’s at. That entails clarity of mind, honesty and willingness to go where most don’t.

    Happy New Year, Mike. xo

    Beautiful post.

I did agree with the articles premise, wasnt really being silly, just ironically including myself in that group...quite ambitiously I might add, as I don't feel especiallly sharp these days and I regrettably have very little sex (contact disease and pregnancy paranioa). I do feel , in my own way, courageous and insightful, so I appreciate you adding those..

I'm happy to announce that ive resumed my zen meditation classes at the zen center here in syracuse...so we'll see if it has any lasting effect on my nocturnal activities. I'll include an update here.sometime soon..

In the last week 10 people died here of swine flu, and 50 are hospitalized, half of them in intensive care.
The outbreak is quite near us, so my husband doesn't want to take any risks.
Will be using a mask when seeing patients and last night gave himself a shot in the arm with the vaccine.

And now has come down with a fever and upset tummy, from the side effects, I.E. nausea and diarrhea.
There are a lot of people here in high alert mode.

There are some shops which are called Macrobioticos, but whenever I tried to find something they didn't have it.
Why, what herb would you recommend?

I could try and shop online, but there is another problem here. Only one customs office in the whole of the country, and situated in the center of town, which when you go near there will make you sick. In early November I bought two batteries and a keyboard for my 2 MacBook Air computers, and am still waiting for them to notify me for collection.
I know they have been in the country since December 1st, because of the tracking.

They will have to start installing rural offices soon, because that centralization thing no longer is feasible, what with people wanting to shop online from other countries.

    Welcome to the tropics.
Oh, and when I go there I have to make lines at three different windows...and the whole process can take up to three hours, not counting the 1 hour each way journey.
I better start learning to go into the rain forest and identify healing plants, but feel I'm a bit too old now for such an adventure. Plus, there are many snakes and jaguars.

I use lomatium for these things, with a small amount of golden seal and echinacea, but only as 3-4 days on and 1-3 days off. I also take vit.C, if that ill, in gram form, at 2 capsules every 5 hours, or until diarhea comes on. However, it is not accurate to recommend beyond personal experience over the net. You have a lot of discernment and meditative introspection at your disposal. May you and yours be served by it well.

What is the method of transmission of the strain there? Airborne, waterborne, food borne ? Remember how well known Nostradamus was because of his healing, way before the quatrains? He removed the source of the transmission by separating the water and sewage systems, burnt infected cloth and separated the levels of illness from each other. This was in addition to his herbal mixtures used to combat the illness and strengthen the immune system.

By now there have to be enough connections between the transplanted northern and european practitioners, both whole-istic and allopathic, and the native herbalists to have produced some local knowledge and supplies. We know that the best treatments derive from local sourcing of natural herbs and plant, mineral based ingredients. There have been botanists from the western nations there gathering these curatives for a long while. I guess that some may have only been funded by big pharma and may or may not share their findings. I hope you find some connection there.
    Blessings, Ulli.

...and while I was looking at political jokes my husband surprised me.
He turned the smart TV to YouTube and unbeknownst to me searched for Gurdjieff music.

When I heard this I could not believe my ears, as he normally doesn't show much interest in Gurdjieff.

A few thoughts on the drugs/alcohol debate. Whatever drugs do to you, you usually have to subscribe to the criminal drug trafficking system which, as Catherine Austin Fitts explains, https://projectavalon.net/forum4/show...=1#post1019990 is a way of dumbing down a whole population with its own money. Hence the illegality of drugs may have something to do with their usefulness, but it mostly has something to do with their usefulness as a weapon against the user. I don’t know enough about the Prohibition, but it was a fairly local phenomenon that never really got off the ground. Maybe this had something to do with the on-the-spot availability of alcohol just about everywhere. This inevitably leads to variety and comparisons and preferences, and gourmet listings, with market forces on the negative side and a search for authenticity on the positive side. In other words, whisky or beer or wine, as opposed to alcohol generally, become social and cultural phenomena, and the bonding they can produce when consumed in moderation is arguably what has made prohibition impossible, apart from in certain Muslim countries and... the USA.

This is the one aspect that illegality removes. Drug users have to go underground to some extent; they can be picked up any time if they don’t, i.e. they are blackmailable, just like politicians, without the respectability. And they are largely cut off from their supply source. They cannot drop in at the local brewery or pub, or the nearest wine-grower: they have no traceability, no authenticity, and are therefore easier to rip off in terms of quality and even toxicity. And often drugtaking comes closer to medication (injections, tablets...) than to recreation (smoking).

Another aspect is addiction: a substance is addictive when consumption itself produces the desire for more and more often. The drug trafficking process is also addictive in the sense that craving is further induced by clandestine routines, relative scarcity and its corollary, high prices. This in turn leads to an escalation of illegality: even if drugs were legal, you would still need to go into crime to finance your habit. Tobacco is legal, but if you sell it yourself, you don’t become a tobacconist, just a cigarette smuggler/dealer.

Alcohol on the other hand is cheap. And dirt cheap especially wherever binge drinking can be encouraged (e.g. the British houses of Parliament http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk...-a6792821.html ). Binge drinking and longer term alcoholism are to be encouraged because they take you straight past the useful disinhibiting/stimulating stage when people lose enough self-control to go places, share things, discover things they wouldn’t otherwise be able to, all the way to the disabling soporific stupor stage. And this is where a legal activity can still get you in trouble with the law: drunk and disorderliness, violence and rape...

Since the ancient wisdom “nothing in excess” means both immoderation and moderation in moderation, the ideal dose is typically whatever is “a bit too much”. Things happen when you surrender control somewhat, which here means slight intoxication. There is little point getting to the stage where things get interesting and then carrying on to the stage of total inebriation where you can’t remember a thing. The same thing happens in the dream state, where you have to wake up to remember anything. Sleep is physically restorative, but in other respects the really interesting, productive states are hypnogogic and hypnopompic drowsiness before and after. Here you see how surrendering control somewhat amounts to partial sensory deprivation. This is probably what alcohol also does, notably in the recklessness that results from the overriding of such things as primitive flight impulses. It doesn’t have to be walking into traffic, it might be blowing the whistle on something, or coming to terms with something big. If you don’t need a stiff drink before, you might need one afterwards. As compared with sleep, alcohol of course involves a substance, but that is perhaps the price you pay for getting the effects out as a lubricant of social interaction. Much more useful at any rate than taking in the heady fumes of charismatic speakers of every kind.

The ramblings of a still ’fluey man about to have a bowl of soup...

Went to a chairty donkey race recently and shot some video... it was entirely too much fun; the races were delayed for 2 hours while the donkeys were "wrangled", but the bars opened on time

That is an act of prosecutable -- treason.

    The punishment is execution.

Israel, when caught, and it goes public, put nails in it's own coffin.

Israel will more than likely..claw at the USA underbelly and pull on control ropes - even harder than the time prior to this going public...and make the process of removal of Israel and Israeli supporters...faster yet.
