Thanks for starting this thread Calz !!

I love classical music, mainly the rennaissance, baroque and contemporary classical periods.

This is my pick for today:

Ensemble Graindelavoix - Fuit in Bruxella quidam Adolescens

    J. S. Bach - Prelude and Fugue in C-sharp minor, BWV 849 - S. Ross

    György Ligeti: Lux Aeterna

    Kudos,
    xxdA.

Thank you Bright Garlick for this piece by Cage. It's soooo beautiful and I'm glad I found it !

ummmm ... okay ... not quite classical ... but it has so much orchestration and is so fantastic I could not resist.

(of course ... any strong objections can have their lawyer contact mine ...)

I'll bet you tears between sadness and joy will start rolling from your cheeks :-)

Enjoy travelling back to (y)our tabula rasa (blank slate) where all is peace ! But please, only listen to this when you have the time to really listen, otherwise it will 'just be' beautiful music...

    Er...

I guess I dared to cross the forum bounderies (like the rest of us ;-) by introducing this next clip by Matteo Salvatore, an Italian singer with a beautiful voice.

To balance my karma, a clip by L'Arpeggiata. The song was also sung by Salvatore (and I was actually looking for that one), but this 'classical rendition' is also very nice:

A classical tune you can most likely whistle to...

    Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf

    Old skool version:

Time to swing with Jimmy Smith's version (Finale: Parade)

    Thanx chiquetet !

Their TOC also includes these two, me thinket:

And I've been told that their dance charts is dominated by this beauty:

Message: If we are aware of our own mortality, then we can start living !

The English translation looks kind of bold, but remains beautiful:

    Oh how wrong you are
    to think that the years
    will never end.
    We must die.

    Life is a dream,
    that seams so sweet,
but joy is all too brief.
    We must die.
    Of no avail is medicine,
    of no use is quinine,
    we cannot be cured.
    We must die.

    Worthless are lamentations,
    threats, bravado
    produced by our courage.
    We must die.
    No learned doctrine
    can find the words
    to calm this boldness
    We must die.

    There is no means
    to untie this knot,
    it is useless to flee.
    We must die.
It is the same for everyone,
    a wily man cannot
    shield himself from the blow,
    We must die.

    Cruel Death
    is unfaithful to all,
    and shames everyone.
    Die we must.
    And yet, o madness
    o ravings,
it seems like lying to oneself.
    Die we must.

    We die singing,
    we die playing
    the cittern, the bagpipe, yet
    die we must.
    We die dancing,
    drinking, eating;
    with this carrion,
    die we must.

    Youths, children,
    and all men
    must end in dust.
    We must die.
    The healthy, the sick,
    the brave, the defenceless,
    must all make an end,
    We must die.
    And when you are least
thinking of it, in your breast,
    all comes to an end,
    We must die.
If you do not think of this,
    you have lost your senses,
you are dead and you can say:
    We must die.
