Default All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace

Interesting new documentary made by the maker of Century of self

    https://youtube.com/watch?v=C17zbTTYVME

Documentary auteur Adam Curtis executes his cut-up brilliance in a new television series analyzing the fallout of the technoculture we take for granted.

Airing Monday on BBC2, All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace — which takes its name from Richard Brautigan’s prophetic poem — explains how humanity now sees through the dead eyes built into the machines to which we have ceded our lives.

Beginning with the techno-utopian ’90s and that era’s fervent belief that computers could positively reshape democracy and power, Curtis‘ engaging new series of films goes on to examine how technology has enveloped us in a loveless digital dragnet of ubiquitous surveillance, flash crashes and way too much information.

Judging from All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace’s surreal image juxtapositions and edgy sonics from artists like Angelo Badalamenti, Nine Inch Nails and Stereo Total, Curtis’ new documentary series will likely feel similar to his astounding previous projects The Century of the Self and The Power of Nightmares.

    G'day Leavesoftrees,

I really enjoyed Adam Curtis' latest three episode documentary "All watched over by machines of loving grace".
Adam Curtis and John Pilger are two of my favourite documentary makers.
I always leave with a new outlook after watching their documentaries.
    Thank you for mentioning them.
    Kind Regards,

    G'day All,

These videos may not be available for long so I thought I'd bump this thread while they still are.
As with all Adam Curtis documentaries I found that some of my assumptions were challenged, I gained more understanding and a different perspective on the world.
That's not to say that "this is right" just that Curtis always seems to look at things in a way I haven't.

    Kind Regards,

    G'day Lord Sidious,

You're really on a Black Sabbath run at the moment.
Not a bad choice either, however in the perennial debate of Sabbath vs Purple (not Alvin Purple hehehe) my heart is with Mr Jon Lord (who recently announced a serious medical condition) and the other ratbags from mark 1 (with classics like 'Hush' and 'Emmaretta') and mark 2 (the classic albums 'Deep Purple In Rock' and 'Machine Head').

Classic mark 1 (No Milli Vanilli rubbish here and I love the hair!):

Classic mark 2 (This is my personal favourite DP song):

Anyhow, anyone watch 'All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace'?

Librarian holding note: - I've successfully managed to track down all 3 parts now on archive.org and am in the process of downloading them now. They're taking a while though - a good 45 minutes for each at a time. I'll amend the OP, with new links, and get them in the Library as well as soon as we have capacity restored there. Tintin

He has a new documentary aired on BBC 2021 called Can't get you out of my head, available on his youtube channel. I've watched 2 episodes. - it's a bit all over the place
and hard to know where he's going, but like all his previous efforts it's fun to watch
