This video contains historical images of Egypt in the 1800's. You can tell they've done a lot of work to display the sites for tourists.

    01/09/24 (10:27)

Quote Some of the Oldest Photos of Egypt, before the restoration of Egyptian Temples, before unburying the Sphinx, and before Mcdonalds and Pizza Hut popped up in Giza 😉

Ancient Egypt was an incredible place and a really important part of humanity's history, so it's a pleasure to bring you this research and I hope you enjoy each of these historical pictures.

You'll see rare and historic images of Egyptian Temples, the Egyptian Pyramids, the Giza Plateau, the Great Sphinx and Ancient Egyptian Statues and Artifacts. Kudos to the Archaeologists who spent the painstaking time to reconstruct this era of Ancient History into what we see today, block by block, piece by piece.
    Before and after images.

Why Does Music Give You Chills? The Neuroscience of Sound

Some have had moments (some have not) when a favorite song comes on in the car, at a concert, or even while sitting at home, and seemingly out of nowhere – goosebumps, a tingling sensation, or a shiver (frission). Why does this happen?

    The Sky Tonight

Thursday, Feb. 22: Venus Kisses Mars (before sunrise)

    https://www.space.com/16149-night-sky.html

One of 2024's closest planetary conjunctions will occur on the mornings surrounding Thursday, Feb. 22. The brilliant planet Venus' return sunward will carry it very closely on the upper left (or only 0.6 degrees to the celestial north) of far fainter Mars.

They'll be close enough together to share the view in a backyard telescope (orange circle) from Monday to Saturday, with Venus approaching Mars from the upper right.

Saturday, Feb. 24: Mini Full Snow Moon (at 12:30 GMT)

The February full moon will occur on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 a.m. EST, 4:30 a.m. PST, or 12:30 GMT. In the Americas, the moon will appear almost full on both Friday and Saturday evenings.

The indigenous Anishnaabe (Ojibwe and Chippewa) people of the Great Lakes region call the Feb. full moon Namebini-giizis "Sucker Fish Moon" or Mikwa-giizis, the "Bear Moon". For them, it signifies a time to discover how to see beyond reality and to communicate through energy rather than sound. The Algonquin call it Wapicuummilcum, the "Ice in River is Gone" moon. The Cree of North America call it Kisipisim, the "the Great Moon", a time when the animals remain hidden away and traps are empty. For Europeans, it is known as the Snow Moon or Hunger Moon.

Because this full moon will occur only 26.5 hours before the moon's apogee, its greatest distance from Earth this month, it will look about 7% smaller than average (red circle) — making it the opposite of a supermoon and the smallest full moon of 2024.

This unbelievable accident happened in 2021. Alexander Evans was driving an Amazon truck, and it was cut in half by a train.

    dailymail
Quote This is the unbelievable moment an Amazon delivery truck was sliced in half by a train as the driver miraculously survived the destructive accident.

Alexander Evans was driving the truck near River Valley Road in Ixonia, Wisconsin, about 40 minutes outside of Milwaukee, in November 2021.

Footage of the bizarre moment was captured on the trucks dash camera as the Amtrack train was seen slamming into the delivery vehicle, splitting it in two down the middle.

AM1054: Stars Form as Galaxies Collide by Jayanne English, M. Rodruck, et al.

    https://apod.nasa.gov/

When galaxies collide, how many stars are born? For AM1054-325, featured here in a recently released image by the Hubble Space Telescope, the answer is millions. Instead of stars being destroyed as galaxy AM1054-325 and a nearby galaxy circle each other, their gravity and motion has ignited stellar creation.

Star formation occurs rapidly in the gaseous debris stretching from AM1054-325’s yellowish body due to the other galaxy’s gravitational pull. Hydrogen gas surrounding newborn stars glows pink. Bright infant stars shine blue and cluster together in compact nurseries of thousands to millions of stars. AM1054-325 possesses over 100 of these intense-blue, dot-like star clusters, some appearing like a string of pearls. Analyzing ultraviolet light helped determine that most of these stars are less than 10 million years old: stellar babies. Many of these nurseries may grow up to be globular star clusters, while the bundle of young stars at the bottom tip may even detach and form a small galaxy.

    NASA is Hiring

Martians Wanted: Apply Now for NASA's Simulated Yearlong Mars Mission

NASA is seeking applicants to participate in its next simulated one-year Mars surface mission to help inform the agency's plans for human exploration of the Red Planet. The second of three planned ground-based missions called CHAPEA (Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog) is scheduled to kick off in spring 2025.

Each CHAPEA mission involves a four-person volunteer crew living and working inside a 1,700-square-foot, 3D-printed habitat based at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston. The habitat, called the Mars Dune Alpha, simulates the challenges of a mission on Mars, including resource limitations, equipment failures, communication delays, and other environmental stressors. Crew tasks include simulated spacewalks, robotic operations, habitat maintenance, exercise, and crop growth.

NASA is looking for healthy, motivated U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are non-smokers, 30-55 years old, and proficient in English for effective communication between crewmates and mission control. Applicants should have a strong desire for unique, rewarding adventures and an interest in contributing to NASA's work to prepare for the first human journey to Mars.

Crew selection will follow additional standard NASA criteria for astronaut candidate applicants. A master's degree in a STEM field such as engineering, mathematics, or biological, physical, or computer science from an accredited institution with at least two years of professional STEM experience or a minimum of one thousand hours piloting an aircraft is required.

Candidates who have completed two years of work toward a doctoral program in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, completed a medical degree, or a test pilot program will also be considered. With four years of professional experience, applicants who have completed military officer training or a bachelor of science degree in a STEM field may be considered.

The deadline for applicants is Tuesday, April 2. Compensation for participating in the mission is available.

    Bothell House Haunting

The Bothell House is the site of an alleged haunting in Bothell, Washington. Between 2012 and 2016, Keith Linder and his girlfriend at the time experienced a wide range of anomalous activity in the house that became increasingly frequent and extremely hostile. The house has now been thoroughly researched by a variety of investigators, who have together documented hundreds of sounds, light anomalies, voice recordings, and other, far more sinister, phenomena. The case stands out for the sheer quantity of occurrences, and for the lines it blurs between different types of hauntings, poltergeists, and even apparitions.
