The Orion Constellation is probably one of the most well known and easily recognizable constellations in the night sky, easily spotted even by those who are not star-struck. Also known as the hunter, he stands proudly in the sky with his belt of three stars in a line shining brightly.

Orion has 7 main stars and 10 stars with planets.

The brightest star in the constellation is Rigel, a blue supergiant, also known as Beta Orionis. Rigel is the 6th brightest star in the sky, with an apparent magnitude of 0.18. It is around 40,000 times brighter than our Sun. Rigel is a star system, made up of 3 stars. It marks the position of the left foot of the Hunter.

Also notable in Orion constellation stars is Betelgeuse, a red supergiant known as Alpha Orionis. Betelgeuse is the second brightest star in Orion and the 8th brightest star in the sky. This star is approximately 643 light-years away from the Earth, and marks the spot of the armpit of Orion’s raised arm.





The earliest known history of Orion the Hunter Constellation goes as far back as 38000 years. The Hunter was documented in a prehistoric Aurignacian ivory carving, which was discovered in a cave in the Ach valley in West Germany in 1979. Babylonian star records, which were created around 1200BC in the Late Bronze Age, also showed the Orion origin as a hunter in the sky.

- In ancient Aramea, the offspring of the “sons of God” – the Nephilim – were said to be Orion’s descendants.
- In medieval Muslim astronomy, Orion was known as al-Jabbar – “the giant”.
- The Chinese view Orion as one of the 28 lunar mansions. Orion is known as Shen.
- In India, the cosmic dancer – Nataraja – is seen in the constellation of Orion.
- The Jain Symbol carved in Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves, India – 1st century BCE, has a striking resemblance to Orion.
- In old Hungarian tradition, Orion is known as the “magic Archer”, he is called Nimrod.
- In Scandinavian tradition, Orion’s belt is known as Frigg’s Distaff – or Freya’s distaff.





The most famous Orion mythology story tells of the hunter, who was the son of the God Poseidon, and the daughter of King Minos of Crete, Euryale. Having immense powers of the sea, Poseidon gave Orion the ability to walk on water. Using this power, he crossed the ocean and arrived at the island of Chios. After partying and drinking too much, he tried to force himself upon Merope, the daughter of the local King Oenopion. In a rage, the King had him blinded and banished from the island. Orion eventually had his sight restored by the sun God Helios.

He became an enthusiastic hunter but unfortunately had a bad attitude. When he declared that he would kill every animal in the world, the Goddess of the Earth, Gaea, became angry and sent a giant scorpion to do battle with him. The Scorpion succeeded in killing Orion. His fellow hunters, Artemis and Leto, asked the great God Zeus to put Orion into the skies. Zeus turned both Orion and the Scorpion into constellations. As they were enemies, the two can never be seen in the sky at the same time.

A STUNNED mum-of-three has claimed she spotted the TOOTH FAIRY flying over her roof on a Ring doorbell.

Alicia Stoddart, 38, says she captured the magical moment on the doorbell cam after a mysterious 'flying' object triggered its sensors.

The 38-year-old is convinced she spotted a fluttering fairy while holidaying at her parent's caravan in Clacton, Essex, with her children. She says her kids Millie, 17, Layla, 11, and Danny, 9, believe it was "definitely" the mystical tooth nabber visiting them in the night last Sunday.

The family were left baffled by the clip that appears to show a tiny wing-wearing figure gliding towards the camera before flying over the roof of the caravan.

For the past two years, The Black Vault has chased an internal Navy document which referenced an Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) briefing of some kind, but there were little details to go on. However, after multiple FOIA requests, and after fighting an initial false “no records” denial to get it, the record has finally been released. The document revealed a previously unknown briefing for staff members of the Senate Armed Services Committee by an F/A-18 pilot who encountered a UFO while operating in the airspace off the U.S. east coast. That briefing, along with the specific encounter itself, both appear to have never been revealed to the general public before.

A Quiet Explosion on the Sun

January 21st 2022: A magnetic filament connected to sunspot AR2934 became unstable and erupted. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory caught the filament hurling a piece of itself into space:





Forecasters call this a "disappearing solar filament" (DSF). DSFs typically occur without the electromagnetic flash of a solar flare. In this sense, they are "quiet" explosions.

Debris from yesterday's DSF formed the core of an impressive coronal mass ejection (CME). The CME is near the edge of the Earth strike zone; it might hit us or it might not. NOAA forecasters say that a glancing blow is possible on Jan. 24th.

Why Is The World Map Wrong?

Have you ever tried smashing a ball into a flat rectangle?

Walk into any school classroom and you will likely see a flat, rectangular map of the world sprawled across the wall. Generations of children have grown up learning that this projection is what Earth looks like. But does this flat map really reflect what our planet is like?





Though designed with the best of intentions — to provide a detailed and coherent projection of Earth — flat maps are far from accurate; some areas look far bigger than they really are, others appear much smaller, and distances between various land masses are misrepresented.

"Every world map is distorted in some respect," said Matthew Edney, a professor of geography and the history of cartography at the University of Southern Maine.

Despite the protestations of flat-Earthers, our home planet is not flat — it is technically an oblate spheroid — a sphere with a flattened top and bottom and a bulge along the equator. This has, since the dawn of mapping, presented a major problem for cartographers: How can a three-dimensional object be faultlessly represented in two dimensions?

The Mercator projection, created by Flemish geographer and cartographer Gerardus Mercator in 1569, was a revelation half a millennium ago and remains the most widely used flat depiction of Earth, according to MapHover. This map was favored by navigators for centuries because it enabled them to plot courses in a straight line. In terms of precision, however, it leaves a lot to be desired.

To put this in context, Greenland and Africa appear to be similar in size on the Mercator projection, when in reality Africa is nearly 14 times larger, according to Scientific American. Similarly, Alaska is represented as being around three times bigger than Mexico, when in fact Mexico is around 1.3 times bigger.

"One alternative to Mercator's projection that was popularized in the 1970s and 1980s is the Gall-Peters projection, which is equal-area, but quite ugly," Edney said. "My academic grandfather, Arthur Robinson, said it made the continents look like long underwear hung on a line to dry."
